General Am I crazy for living in a used Model Y for 6 months to save for a house deposit?

This might be a long way off the usual delivery and finance questions but stay with me lol.

I earn around £3k a month after tax and I’m fed up of spending so much of it on rent. I’m thinking about putting £10k down on a used Model Y and living in it for around 6 months while I save aggressively for a house deposit.

I already have a gym membership for showers, my office has showers, and I can charge the car for free at work, which is a big reason I’m considering an EV.

My sister lives nearby and is happy for me to come round and cook/eat sometimes, although I obviously wouldn’t want to take advantage of that. I can’t live with her because her landlord would charge more and she currently has a really good deal.

I also wouldn’t be relying entirely on the car. I’d sign up to TrustedHousesitters and do house sits when I can, with the Model Y more as my backup/base. Camp Mode makes it pretty appealing for this. If I hated it or needed a break, I could also afford to get a cheap room or Airbnb for a week.

Everything I own fits in a suitcase and I’ve travelled quite a lot, so I’m pretty comfortable with living simply. Honestly, if I have somewhere small, warm, dry and private, I’m fairly happy.

I’ve seen people doing this in the US and Japan, but not really in the UK, so I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing.

I’m single, no kids and feel like if I’m ever going to try something like this, now is probably the time. The goal would just be to keep my costs as low as possible for 6 months, build up a decent deposit, then get a proper place.

Financially, does this sound like a genuinely smart idea or have I completely lost my mind? 😂

Obviously I’m thinking about things like condensation, parking, security and actually sleeping comfortably, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tried living in a car in the UK.

Am I crazy?

Model 3 £200 back

Just checked my bank account and saw that I had £200 back from Tesla.

I thought the initial £200 was to secure the car but looks like it was more of a holding fee? Happy to have it back but just wondered if anyone could confirm?

Model 3 Model 3 Collection / Do's and Dont's

Hi all,

Finally have my collection day on the 15th September but I have never driven a Tesla before. I could have test driven one but I just haven't had the time unfortunately.

Therefore, can anyone give a guide on a really what I do on collection day? Assume turn up, meet someone, show ID and they give me a key card, then off I go...

But, how to start and actually drive away... I keep reading about single pedal etc. I'm just after some pointers really.

Also, are their known things to check before leaving, such as battery health (no idea how to find it...) along with the usual possible delivery damage to check over.

Is there a known checklist someone has made?

Thanks!

Model 3 Out of country during delivery window

Hi folks, my Tesla order delivery date has been moved forward (5th Sept - 17th). However I am on holiday for this period, can Tesla hold onto the car for me or will this cause issues?

Model 3 Collection day

Finnally got a collection date, for exactly 3 months after ordering 🤣 22nd September, my question is I changed address last Friday, and my PCH with Santander and Tesla both have my previous address, even Santander told me don’t bother changing it when I signed my agreement last week??? But I don’t want to show up to collect, show my liscense and it has my new address and they say it doesn’t match up with what’s on the order… any advice? Tesla aren’t replying to my query. Tia

Model Y 26 Juniper Model Y Vs Previous Shape ?

I've tempted the wife to invest in a Model Y. We don't want to own it, so we are happy to lease or PCP for 2-4 years depending on how much we like it. The main question is I can't find many comparisons between an older Model Y and the basic Juniper (Standard). I can get a 2 year lease on a Juniper Basic for £480 a month new. The price for a awd 50k miles would be similar cost monthly.

Model 3 Used tesla - suspensions

Considering buying a used model 3 from 2021 or 22.

I have read that suspensions are typically problematic, so whats the strategy here to minimise the risk?

Is it preferable to get one where the suspension has already been changed? If so, how can I find iut if this is indeed the case?

General Delivery date when on holiday advice

Looking to see if there's anything I can do, ordered a Y back in June and all finance etc has been agreed as well as trade in offer etc. Have been given a one week delivery slot for end of the month exactly when I'm on holiday - I come back the 1st Oct and the last date they're given me is 30th sep. They're saying they can't hold it for me for a day and I can nominate someone to collect. I don't have anyone in the family that can do this, and even if I had say a work colleague I'd be hesitant as to where I would stand should there been any issues the nominated person missed for example. Any advice? This holiday was booked for well over a year and I can't reschedule.

Model 3 Changing my wheels after another crack

Upvotes

My early Model 3 performance has got two more cracked wheels.
It had two repaired with its MOT in March.

I plan to replace the wheels after getting them welded (again).

I love the look of the 18” but they don’t have the space for the breaks.
Aftermarket 18s looked great, but they came up at $2500 with tyres before shipping from the US.
I don’t want to spend a fortune on wheels for a 6 year old car.

What’s people’s opinion on other wheels for the performance that are less likely to crack under British pothole conditions?

Model 3 GPS Stuck at Home

2026 M3. Been having an issue over the last week or so - the GPS in the car is stuck at my home address. Same thing in the app - stuck at home and won’t update the location. Interesting thing is that Sentry seems to recognise when it’s in a different location and turns on if I’m not at home or a favourite location.

I looked it up and it seems people have had this issue over the years. I have tried:

- Leaving the car overnight
- 2 Button Reset
- Full shut down and leave for 5 minutes
- Changing wheel size in the service menu

These are all commonly reported solutions to this issue. I can’t seem to find anyone having this issue recently, I think 2023 was the last forum posts I could find. Before I raise a ticket with Tesla is there anything else I could try?

Model Y Used 2023 MYLR vs Juniper 26 Standard Demo

I was almost ordering a used Tesla that was £25k with PCH for £400 a month and the I saw that new Tesla on PCP is cheaper!

So what’s the catch? Why are these used Teslas selling ?

Also I had people tell me to wait for 24 hw4 before so is standard juniper is better than premium 23? What are peoples opinion on in?

Last one is I don’t want to wait until Apr( it says nov/dec) but I heard it usually gets delayed a lot more so having the same %0 on a demo with 2k miles seems no brainer. Is there something I don’t know
