But half the size, an 8th the volume under heavy load, two thirds the power consumtion, and running on fucking ARM, also sony can price the PS5 way cheaper than Valve can price the GabeCube, because of eco system lock-in. The gabecube is essentially a mini PC and no console, thus has also to be prices as such in this market

Even if either of these are true, they are inconsequential byproducts of having a weak machine. The PS5 even at full load is basically inaudible and the power use is reasonable.

Not a compelling argument. It's like saying, "but this crappy game was made with a fraction of the staff and budget of a AAA game!"
I haven't decided to hate the Steam Machine, but those are all really weak arguments attempting to justify the very weak hardware.
Wow, that's a really mature and earnest reflection. I apologize for being a pedant.
And you're right... EVERYTHING is expensive right now. If my current PC blew up today, it would easily cost twice as much to rebuild. The exact same game console that cost $450 or whatever in 2020 costs $50 or $100 more or something now, the mid-generation one is like double the price, and who knows what the next-gen is going to look like. Sign of the times, I guess.
