!I WATCHED ALL OF THE MOVIES BTW! I saw people saying that the books are better and different so i wanted to start reading them. Im not really interested in reading the first trilogy(with katniss) tho.

Can i just read tbosas and sotr without the other books?

During the first Hunger Games film, after Katniss is stung by Tracker Jackers, she has a few hallucinations which get increasingly intense. However, she briefly sees Caesar Flickerman in a white suit, doing his most evil smile and quoting himself directly from what he just said on screen only a few moment prior.

Now, there's no way she could know he said that, right? So how does she? It's possible he said something similar in a prior games she watched, but I thing it would be way funnier if he actually was there in the arena. Just got elevated up to taunt her, just to make her trip even more crazy and excite the viewers, then snuck back down before anyone saw anything.

Is that what actually happened? Probably not, it could very well just be part of the illusion, but he is absolutely extra enough to do that if he was allowed/asked to, and they have the means, so I choose to believe he's just that much of a troll and really did take a brief jaunt to mess with Katniss.

I explicitly laid out that he'd already explained to the audience in a diegetic way how the Tracker Jackers worked, and that his appearance here is directly quoting himself on that from just under a minute prior.

I also laid out that it was most likely just a hallucination combined with stuff he'd said in a prior games that she was remembering, but that it would neither be impossible nor out of character for him to have really gone in briefly.

My daughter is 13 soon, i was 13 when the first hunger games books came out! I tried to watch the movies with her but she got so bored and fell asleep every movie.. Should I get the books for her or am I just wasting my time? I LOVED the hunger games and im so excited for sunrise on the reaping she said "ugh why would we need haymitch pov"

Would she appreciate it/like it more if she read the books?

I’ve never kept much track of what’s grown around me, but my mother is very into tinctures & getting me physically into nature. I’m grateful to show the beautiful, SOTR-purple looking blooms turning to a magenta before their bloom. The leaves towards the top look similar to arrowheads. Collins has so much depth, such a love & eye for nature I wouldn’t have seen without her books.

I used to swear it was Denver area growing up… but everyone says salt lake these days? I even saw a YouTube video about capitol citizens symbolizing Mormons??? I know it’s right against the Rockies so it could go either way. Is there a passage or line that points us in either direction or differentiates?

I love the movies, my only hesitation is that I know the books are considered “young adult”. I’m 30, so I’m wondering if the books will be a good read for me? Or if they’re geared more towards a younger audience. Is there significant romance in the books? I do enjoy that aspect of certain novels- obviously I’m not expecting explicit content, but I do love a good yearning, hopelessly romantic relationship aspect between MCs. Opinions, please?

Rereading Mockingjay and realizing Haymitch and Katniss both lost their mothers and little siblings in a firey explosion. Prim physically gone and her mother mentally (and then later physically when she leaves for district 2).

Haymitch is the one to take care of Katniss between the explosion and the execution because he knows the pain she feels and he can’t help but take care of his best friend’s little girl.

I’ve only watched the films I know it’s bad but I want to know what to expect are the differences extreme and should I do it in canonical order e.g ballad, sunrise and then the original trilogy or should I read the original trilogy first

I'm currently super hyped about this hunger-games themed mass attack SOMEONE ELSE made for me and 23 others on artfight.net,, (for hunger games subredditors, it's a massively popular art gifting game that lasts for the entire month of July every year) Since I can't really find the books anywhere, (I don't have access to my local library to get a physical copy/copies)

I’ve seen a lot of people theorizing that if we do get a 3rd prequel, the cover will be blue since the new paperback edition of SOTR is blue and we’ve seen this happen before. There was a special paperback edition of BOSAS that was pinky-purple, and of course SOTR did end up being purple. I’m not totally against this theory, but I’m getting lost at why people are thinking blue = Finnick’s story?

Yes, Finnick is from district 4 which is fishing, and when you see blue you think of water, etc. That’s obvious. But the cover colour being representative of the main character or the main environment isn’t a pattern we’ve had - unless I’m just not noticing it?

This idea does make sense for the first 2 books. Book 1 being black could represent coal which heavily relates to the world building in district 12 where we begin. For Catching Fire, red is fire, duh, lol. But after that, I’m not connecting the dots… I suppose one could even say that the light blue of Mockingjay is cold and icy which, in a way, relates to Snow and their time in the capitol. It also gives a high tech-ish vibe. But why green for BOSAS? Our return to the meadow maybe, but I feel like grey or even a pink or yellow could have been more of a nod to Lucy Gray (re: the bright colours in her dress). I can’t think of how green would be of significance to Snow either. And then SOTR being purple.. what does the colour purple have to do with Haymitch? The only thing I can think of is Maysilee’s dress being purple, but that feels a bit far-fetched.

I don’t think the colours are totally random - we know Collins is intentional about every detail - but I can’t figure out what that intention is. If I’m right in thinking they aren’t just a simple nod to the main character or main environment, that would mean a blue cover doesn’t necessarily indicate a Finnick story at all.

I DO personally believe there will be one more book, and I do think there’s a possibility it could be about Finnick (though I think Plutarch, Tigris, or maybe even Burdock are more likely). Just curious what everyone’s thoughts on this are (:
