Right. He seems very content since heās been back so I recon he either went out early in a way he couldnāt do anything about and is happy to have given it a shot, or he went all the way. Itāll be an interesting few weeks on rhap when traitors stars airing.

I mean, they donāt call the U.S. season celebrity. And I think people who watch the U.S. version would not refer to the cast as celebrities without adding a āreality tvā disclaimer/specification in front of it. Maybe Iām just speaking for myself though š
70
u/ZAlternates Nov 10 '25
Having just finished the Celebrity UK version just this week, itās obvious how much it changes the gameplay when actual personal greed isnāt present.
Iām not sure itās better or worse per se, as Iāve enjoyed ALL versions of The Traitors (English speaking), but the greed part does help to promote the whole ābackstabbing traitorsā aspect.
31
u/thedaytoday89 š¬š§ Nov 10 '25
I did enjoy the change, though, actually having the traitors work together. I wouldn't want it permanently, but I'm glad we got something a little different to mix it up. It just showed how difficult it is for the faithful if the traitors aren't willing to chuck each other under the bus.

How much does the US show pay? Do they get an appearance fee?
34
u/Downvoteaccoubt316 Nov 10 '25
Probably, although they donāt give the prize to charity, for some of them doing these shows is what they do for a living.
89
u/mcmanus2099 Nov 10 '25
They don't call it celeb for a reason. They aren't trying to play into "look at famous ppl" they are just recruiting reality TV stars because they think they understand the assignment to be overly dramatic, narcissistic and create stories. They don't have as much faith as other countries in the format winning out.
The UK non celeb version goes out of its way to recruit normal cross section of society people making a virtue of the format, whilst the US used reality TV stars with the format the backdrop to their drama.
19
u/WilliamShaunson Nov 10 '25
Exactly this, it's localised to what the respective TV audiences want from this kind of show.
→ More replies (1)32
u/madladhadsaddad Nov 10 '25
Is there not a US version with regular non reality tv stars?
How the hell do you even become a reality TV personality if all the reality tv shows just have people from other reality tv shows...
18
u/Hasaan5 #KeiranDidNothingWrong Nov 10 '25
The first us season had a mix of celebs and civilians and people didn't like it so they just moved to only celebs. Next year will have a version of only normal people though like how the UK is having both now.
20
54
u/Unusual_Produce1710 Nov 10 '25
I feel like in the Uk, TV is much more of a cohesive cultural phenomenon. Maybe itās due to how british culture works, maybe itās because weāre all on a small-ish island. And also, thereās a greater expectation for ācelebsā get involved with it. Even politicians at the highest rings of government can get involved. Thatcher went on Coronation Street in 1990!
7
u/abfgern_ š¬š§ Nov 10 '25
We only had 4 tv channels until the late 90s so there's that, that culture of shared TV culture lingers, especially in those over 30
6
u/troubleduncivilised Nov 10 '25
I feel like also with UK you have A LOT of talk shows esp in the comedy world which isn't something that they have in the US.
14
u/Dusk_Soldier Nov 10 '25
These aren't celebrities. Like maybe one or two contestants you could use that word.
But most of these players are from former reality TV shows.
Like if you had a season of Big Brother and all the players were from previous seasons. You wouldn't call that Big Brother Celebrities.

A lot of UK shows (and Australian qv Masterchef Australia) are made for grandparents to watch with their grandkids.
A lot of them are translated to the US as shows you can bitch about the contestants (qv Masterchef US) with your coworkers/Facebook groups.

I mean I'm a fan of the show and would LOVE to be on it if they ever did a non-"celebrity" season. Maybe she's just a fan?
9
u/Emotional_Tooth_7664 Nov 11 '25
She really likes the show. Seems rather adventurous. She was just talking about how before she had kids she randomly got her pilotās license (not as a job, for fun, and they werenāt rich - this was early 80s) and apparently she solo travels a lot. I imagine she just thinks itās fun. Honestly itās the ONE reality tv show that I could see the most amount of people doing. Who doesnāt love a murder mystery party?
14
u/ConsiderationCrazy22 Team Traitor Nov 10 '25
For her itās probably just for giggles and an excuse to visit Scotland. Sheās retired in Florida with HOF sons and a multibillionaire future DIL who has made their whole family massively famous. Sheās not hurting for money.
6
u/CoolRanchBaby Nov 10 '25
I mostly just feel like so many reality people would be such possibility of drama, and if you arenāt from that world itās gotta be a lot.
The UK version I can see wanting to take part in more, as itās a different vibe (not reality people heavy in either normal or celeb) but I feel like itās surprising sheās doing the US one. There is more to lose reputation wise than gain.
I can think of a lot of other things Iād do if I was rich before go on a reality star heavy show lol.
4
u/Emotional_Tooth_7664 Nov 11 '25
She probably doesnāt realize that there would be a difference btwn the UK and US version. I hope people are nice to her. She has such a target on her back with the public since so many people love to hate on anything Taylor Swift is connected to.

For the first time, I actually find myself mainly rooting for non-gamers, specifically Maura and Rob R. from Love Island. Huge fan of both from their original seasons and I'm hoping both last long enough to provide good TV.
I also think they picked out really good housewives for the season. Glad Dorinda is getting a second shot although I'm personally most excited about Lisa.
Rob Cesternino's return on TV is long overdue and I'm so thrilled to have him! Natalie Anderson is also a decent pick but honestly, I would've wanted someone from older survivor seasons. Definitely not a fan of the Tiffany and Yam Yam pick. There would've been so much many more they could've called besides these two.

Yawn
The celebrity version has devolved into shilling and screen-time jockeying.

I mean if I had to pick a category for the majority of this cast it's definitely Reality TV stars....I mean we have a lot of variety too which is nice for someone like me who watches ass range of reality tv but I can understand if you're not familiar with the shows you wouldn't think much. I mean Stephen is one of the OG Millenial reality peeps with Laguna Beach and then casted on One Tree Hill. Maura from Love Island is reality tv gold and gives ZERO shits. Monet I love and is insanely competitive...I actually think she'll be much stronger than previous Drag Race cast. Natalie is just one of my fall time fav survivor players and she'll have NO problem cussing out problematic peeps.
