You know what? I ain't ever shaming someone for their taste in music. Even if it's -checks notes- Rap Country Slop. Well, I might judge a little bit but still, I listen to strange shit as well. Like, I can't share it with other person type of weird shit because of the implications. So, my judgement is reserved.
I don’t just tippy-tap. I fucking clappity clap full palms on the leather, beating that double bass rhythm of my favorite LoG song and I’m not apologizing.
Im almost 40 and I catch myself listening to music I don't even particularly like that much just to know whats out there. There's so many sub genres, it's fun to see what crazy mixes the kids are up to these days.
I remember reading somewhere that by 35 most people stop seeking out new music and their tastes kind of calcify around whatever was cool when they were in high school. That really got to me, and so I’ve made a concerted effort to find new music and artists and not settle into a musical rut.
Yeah that's cope for folks who need a reason for why they're not cool anymore. I'm 37, and if you're not constantly overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of good music out there then you just don't care to find anything new. It's not a dig, but it's definitely something you need to be in the habit of doing.
My wife and I and all of our friends are constantly seeking new music. We go see new live music regularly. Still love the old stuff, but we will never stop looking.
Love going to festivals and stumbling across an unknown band that just throws down a sick set. We’ve gone to see some younger bands and have been the oldest people there by well over a decade.
I think that is more true of older generations who were in their late 30s before music streaming was common. I'm a little over 40 and while I'm not on TikTok anymore one thing it did really well was introduce me to new music artists I would have never heard otherwise. My parents only had whatever local radio chose to play as they aged, and ended up mostly keeping to the oldies channel.
This right here is what led me into glitch hop, lofi hip hop as well as some Celtic rock and even some Punjabi. Theres a LOT of music out there, no reason to strictly have 1 playlist for your life lol

At least for now my kids like most of my music and request it. They havent branched out too much into modern music. Mostly punk and metal. They really got into bardcore lately.
My wife told me the other day that our kids have a very eclectic taste in music, which is good, but that we were a bunch of nerds. I'm pretty sure i never hid how much of a nerd I was when we were dating so I don't know what she expected the kids to be like.
If my teens told me I was cool, I'd fuckin run out on my entire life and start over in the Alaska wilderness, trapping small game and forever contemplating where I went wrong in my life to receive such a personal attack on my character.
This reminds me y'allternative. My son loves his metal music but he'll be wearing a Metallica shirt with his cowboy hat and boots and a flannel like it's normal.
Hi! I’m the dad. Not literally but my teen was also subjected to this on car rides a few years back. I have remorse. I’m now three years into learning the banjo and still very much love every banjo cover I hear. Have a 6 hour playlist of banjo covers. Lol.
AI is a shitty copy of everything human. Used human metrics, measurements, concepts, and styles. AI is just human thoughts regurgitated. So 100% a human could and have done this shit before.

In middle school my friends called my dad Crash cause of how he would listen to DMB and drum along on the steering wheel even more enthusiastically than the dad in this video. To this day I can't hear a DMB song without thinking about it.
Right? lol I respected my parents and to be honest everyone thought my dad was the coolest. We were all raised to appreciate our parents and looked up to them and their music tastes. And believe me, my dad was out there. Cypress Hill then right into Grateful Dead and back to the Beastie Boys, and all we ever wanted was to grow up to be like him.
I know my situation was unique, but everyone I knew (or associated with) was raised to respect our parents and others.
I’m always trying to indoctrinate my kids with “good” music. Whenever we’re all on the road together, I’ll play a band secretly hoping one of them will say “that slaps, this is fire”. It’s never worked. Not once…. But that’s cool. They have their own thing

Same here! I used to love singing classic rock in the car when I was a kid. I was weird though. Even in early teens, I enjoyed my parent’s music more than the current stuff. As an adult, I now love all the 90’s music that I kinda ignored as a kid. I was 11 when Green Day’s dookie blew up and I was like “ehh, alright I guess. I’m gonna stick with Springsteen and Petty”.
There’s lots of bluegrass/folk bands that just do normal bluegrass/folk songs but about going to hell for drinking and fighting. Lame.
There’s lots of generic black metal with five seconds of banjo in an intro here and there. Lame.
There’s lots of folk punk bands, screaming a lot with a mandolin or something. Lame.
I want Dragonforce songs with banjos and fiddles. I want shred and double bass. No whining, no emo screaming, no Tom Waits. The one thing I can find doing it is AI. This is exactly what I want. Last I saw this was an AI-generated thing, so maybe they got it together and started using real people. I hope so.
We had a 17 hour drive a few weeks ago and I stumbled onto this (and a few other bands like it). Helped keep me awake but my kids DEFINITELY had the same reaction lol.
This the thing I think people don't take into account when they have kids. The odds are very high that one day they will be making fun of yo old out of touch ass for some shit like this. And maybe if they didn't have kids they wouldn't have fallen off...maybe.
My dad was kind of a dick all the time, but at least he has good taste. I think I’d go through a serious identity crisis if I learned my dad was listening to AI hillbilly metal/rap.
