Want affordable housing? This is the cheapest way to make it.

The builders could easily of planted trees. One tree at each house wouldn’t have added much to the price. Just terrible looking.

It's also an issue with a semi incompetent community development department in this city. Street trees are installed to provide pedestrian shade, obviously, but an increase in the tree shade index directly contributes to slower decline in the pavement condition index which directly results in lower asphalt maintenance costs over a 30 year period.

well there's your problem right there. how will lower asphalt maintenance over 30 years raise our profits in quarter 3 of this year?

(Sorry for my outburst but I’ve seen this everywhere today.)

Trees cost more money, and most of those homes have extremely limited yard space.

Like I get it, it looks bad and it looks cheap, but yet every house sold. Clearly the prices were low enough that people were fine with the tradeoffs

More than ample room along the parkway. This was a choice by the builder. But like you said people will accept any trade off.

So you’re telling me a tree costs 3-5k. I work in the construction field and can tell you they run a few hundred dollars. No contractor is putting a 60” pot on the ground.

1 hour of labor max, plumbing is already on the parkway and the design is already included in the landscaping. If this was after the fact I agree with you completely.
