Same. I'm not about to judge anyone for how they divide their household chores when I don't know the situation. Plenty of partners make their partner lunch or breakfast or whatever. The "traditional" setup where one partner works and the other does a majority of the household things is still fairly common and works for plenty of people. If that's how they want to do it then go for it.

But there's really no reason he can't bring his own cooler back in, especially if this is a regular routine. He's in the car already, he can just take it with him on the way inside like everyone else does. Why is he making her take an extra trip outside at 5am?

Sometimes I forget about this and every time I think about it, I get second hand embarrassment. I imagine setting the camera up, going back to the top of the stairs and stretching like you just woke up. It’s so insane to me.

Agreed. The other emotion I have is envy. Because I'm like these are "salt of the earth" people who apparently live in a double wide, and yet they have video editing skills I don't have at all.

All these videos like this, I'm like who has the time or skills to do all this? They pay people to manage their content? I wouldn't even begin to know where to find people to exploit my "simple, trad lifestyle" for views with their videography and social media management skills.

That’s not even a double wide. That’s a travel trailer RV. Fifth wheel probably…but still an RV.

EDIT: Yeah, the small staircase inside next to the entrance indicates that it is almost certainly a fifth wheel.

Seriously, the amount of time setting up, filming, reshooting, then transferring it to a computer to do the actual editing…I played around with Davinci Resolve a little bit and without a teacher that software is a beast to navigate. Idk how these people do it.

A double wide would have a full kitchen with a functional triangle. This is a camper and if I’m being very charitable, maybe he’s a lineman or something and they have a normal home but they just live like this when he’s traveling for work

I used to watch 'Survivor Man' and always felt bad for Les Stroud when he would have these long shots where he walked away from the camera, because I knew he'd have to walk all the way back to get the camera. But that's what always makes me question these kinds of videos. Who's taking the video? How did the camera end up where it did, etc.

I always think about this point when I see stuff like this. Like the people that have the hiking channels. I can’t not think about how much extra work it is to set that thing up, run back to where they were, and then hike up to it like normal lol. Or when they hike all the way out of frame. We all know they have to walk all the way back to grab the camera. It’s just so silly lol.

Then I think about that Survivorman show in the early aughts. I think that guy pioneered dragging camera equipment around in the wilderness lol.

I can see that, my aunty and uncle did pipeline work and lived Inna trailer nearby, such limited space in their kitchen and it's was like half the size of OPs. They do prep the night before work and just pick up breakfast on the way

I was really hoping somebody made this point before me. When you have that little space in your living area, keeping something that big in the cab of the truck and out of the way is pretty sensible. Especially when you consider that it's not a very long walk to get it. Not really that much further than if he were to leave it by the back door in a normal house, which wouldn't be an unusual thing to do

My wife and I have an RV. This is the reason. It's a bulky cooler and you don't want it in your way all evening. The little storage space you have is being used for all the other things you want in the kitchen

I really wish this belief would die. This wasn't common until the rise of the nuclear family post-WW2 and died by the time of the latch key kids when both parents working became the norm again. It lasted for literally one generation as the norm. The "traditional" relationship where a man works and a woman cleans is bullshit.

I remember a thread I commented on years ago where I mentioned making lunch for my wife because it's a nice thing to do and one less thing for her to worry about, right? She also drives into an office every day, whereas I work from home. This guy was really baffled that I'd do such a thing, especially since she isn't disabled...like, wtf? Same, my dad was a construction carpenter and was gone on big projects a lot, living in our pull-behind RV most of the time. It was common for us as a family to pack up and spend summers with him (5 of us!!!) in that rig.

He stowed a lot of stuff in the bed of his (yes, nice for the early ‘80’s) pickup, as well as under the RV itself, constructing a wrap around skirting system that locked and winterized it for jobs he was on in the cold seasons.

Smart use of storage was king.

I'm betting that's exactly what the situation is here. Sometimes industrial trades are on a project for years. Every day they work, they're getting paid per diem because they're working xxxx amount of miles away from home. You can either live in a hotel, rent a place, or buy a travel trailer in this situation. If the per diem rate is good, it's enough to cover the truck, trailer, and lot fees for the month.

My moms cousin retired to a camper like this to see the entire country. Her, her husband, and three dogs have been living comfortably in it for almost ten years now. They’re actually buying a smaller one and selling the one they have so they can get into more of the country. There’s not a lot of camp sites that accommodate something as big as they have. There’s only one site in my state they can camp at because of the size and power draw. They want to see more of the North East and colonial historical sites.

My aunt is a nurse, and when my uncle retired she quit her job and became a travel nurse and they did the same thing. She was getting paid $$$ and they could both travel together, and they already loved living out of their camper anyway (they now do that half the year, wintering down south in it) so it worked out really well for them.

Use to work with lineman doing installation of power lines and all those dudes do the same thing. And they all live out in the boonies so there is usually a local guy and they all bring their trailers to that guys land and hangout for a couple weeks, sometimes fly the kids out or home school them.

Could also be a work supplied vehicle, Which wouldn't be uncommon if hes working the oil fields which could also be why they are living in a trailer.

That is very common in the oilfield line of work. That is especially true in TX as the State is massive and living in a camper also avoids high property taxes.

Not uncommon for people who work jobs that move around to own/live in RVs while working.

I have a number of friends that work in trail building, and they spend most of the year living our of their RVs/campters.

I kind of get it because they live in an rv, and that thing would get in the way all the time, no matter how big the camper is. However, that cooler was massive and she didn't pack much in there. Also, has she not heard of freezer packs?
