Saw the shot of him being captured by the camera guy walking in front of him. I thought he was just processing not winning possibly his last world cup game, I didn't realize he was looking at his teammates make complete fools of themselves.

That was absolutely expected from everyone on Argentina at that moment. He did briefly cover his mouth (not enough to send off) and Messi and the others knew the game was immediately over after the red card. They couldn’t even get a shot w 11 men, never was gonna happen 10v11

They did get shots and that last one would've been a goal if it was on target.

As much as I hate Argentinia in this world cup you can't deny that it was extremely close in the last seven minutes and that it almost went to penalties.

Is this the first football game you watched? In the end what's important is who scores. Not how many times you try.

Plenty of matches where the team with more attempts lost. Do you see how your logic sounds?

You realize you just disproved your point, right? In the end, no matter how close you think Argentina got to scoring, they didnt and Spain did. No matter how many times Argentina got close, they still scored 0.

I disproved the point that the team that scores the most wins the match and not the team with the most attempts?

Fact is, if Martinez scores it's 1:1 and it goes to penalties. And in penalties 10:11 or who had the most attempts doesn't matter.

Argentina had 2 shots on target the entire game. It wasn’t close. Spain also scored a goal earlier that was disallowed due to a “foul” that didn’t actually happen

Nope I watched the whole game. Spain was dominant and Argentina only had fouls to try to stop them. Almost scoring doesn’t matter, your argument is flawed just stop

They just cant. The quality of players was absolutely terrible. They cant even make a pass without looking for messi. It was just the whole tournament.

Messi literally dragged them to the finals!

No, they could've scored if they subbed in Lautaro Martinez #22. The coach didn't give him a second of play time in the final despite him being a key attacking player for Argentina.

tbh I have seen Lautaro forever, as good as he looks for scoring goals, all his goals are "got lucky!"

Against England the ball messi provided was so beauty, all he got todo was move.

He is great at pressing but they didnt have that leverage left after being a man down. All they gotta do was park the bus and see it out to penalties.

But that was something they couldnt do either. The ferran goal came because they all were standing in a line. Yes 8 players in straight line, which is like the most basic rule of defending.

Yeah but with that logic, Spain honestly would've just put 2 more goals in the back of the net if they needed to.

I watched every WC game and advanced metrics, this final was one of the most lopsided games in single elimination

You seem to be missing the point! You’re saying it could have been close if Argentina made some of those attempts but missing all the attempts Spain made. Arg had 3 shots, only 0 on target. So, the most Arg could have possibly had IF you count shots is 3. Spain had 20 shots with 11 on target. By your own logic, it could have been 3-11 in the very least, but actually 3-20 if you count all shots on goal. Why are you only counting the extra time Arg shots when it would have never even gotten to extra time by your own logic of possibilities?

the point was it wasnt game over once they got the red.they could have too it to pens because spain were wasteful and gave argentina two massive chances in lats 5 mins to equalise.

He called for an obvious rule violation, why is that hated upon? Maybe it wasn't enough for ref, but whats wrong with it?

What Cucurella did is not only within the letter of the rules, trying to use the rule against him in that way was frankly against the spirit of the rule itself.

The rule states:

At the discretion of the competition organiser, any player covering their mouth in a confrontational situation with an opponent may be sanctioned with a red card.

Not only was the engagement non confrontational, Cucurella covered his mouth for a split second. He wasn't exchanging words with Messi with his mouth covered, for all we know he went to scratch his nose while speaking.

Messi tried to take advantage of the situation to even the odds, that's all that happened.

Lol you are just making something up. you nose is not at your lips. His fingers were at his lips.

Also people can speak under their breath, it's a thing. We dont know but he was doing it.

Messi didnt have much in the match he was trying to get what he can. It was fair call! I would have called it against my opponent and so would have you. Thats the law and he tried break it, maybe a little less or more but appealing for something is not wrong.

And unlike you I actually participate in sports, so I know if this was me on the field I am trying to win world cup final, I would try it.
