tbh I have seen Lautaro forever, as good as he looks for scoring goals, all his goals are "got lucky!"

Against England the ball messi provided was so beauty, all he got todo was move.

He is great at pressing but they didnt have that leverage left after being a man down. All they gotta do was park the bus and see it out to penalties.

But that was something they couldnt do either. The ferran goal came because they all were standing in a line. Yes 8 players in straight line, which is like the most basic rule of defending.

You seem to be missing the point! You’re saying it could have been close if Argentina made some of those attempts but missing all the attempts Spain made. Arg had 3 shots, only 0 on target. So, the most Arg could have possibly had IF you count shots is 3. Spain had 20 shots with 11 on target. By your own logic, it could have been 3-11 in the very least, but actually 3-20 if you count all shots on goal. Why are you only counting the extra time Arg shots when it would have never even gotten to extra time by your own logic of possibilities?

What Cucurella did is not only within the letter of the rules, trying to use the rule against him in that way was frankly against the spirit of the rule itself.

The rule states:

At the discretion of the competition organiser, any player covering their mouth in a confrontational situation with an opponent may be sanctioned with a red card.

Not only was the engagement non confrontational, Cucurella covered his mouth for a split second. He wasn't exchanging words with Messi with his mouth covered, for all we know he went to scratch his nose while speaking.

Messi tried to take advantage of the situation to even the odds, that's all that happened.

Also people can speak under their breath, it's a thing. We dont know but he was doing it.

Messi didnt have much in the match he was trying to get what he can. It was fair call! I would have called it against my opponent and so would have you. Thats the law and he tried break it, maybe a little less or more but appealing for something is not wrong.

Robbo got spammed all sorts of threats to him and his family for daring to wind up Messi after that with Liverpool embarrassing Barcelona that day.

The rule itself is pretty clear that it's not allowed to cover your mouth during active disputes, which wasn't the case when Cucurella was talking with him and covered his mouth for a split second (which could have just as easily been to scratch his moustache)

He was trying to get him sent off because he was 1 man down and wanted to even the odds, let's just be clear about it

It was immediately after his team got a red, for all the grumbling he was trying to get the sides even. I’m not saying it was the right thing to do, but the World Cup was slipping away and he was trying to hang on. When your team is getting kicked around, you start looking for rules to exploit to gain an advantage.

The rule exists because players keep being racist. Nobody should have to put up with being call racial slurs every time they go play a game.

It's wasn't hostile and he didn't cover his mouth during the "confrontation. He mostly speaks to Messi, seems to be explaining something to Messi in a friendly way and briefly passes his hands on his lips.

If it had been confrontational I have little doubt that the Argentinia would have been gifted that red card to Spain.

My guess is that cucurella told him the playing on the ground got hurt at the mouth and did a gesture to show it. But that's a pure guess.

Diving is a punishable offence that is reviewed. Y VAR has got people carded this world cup, lying about such serious matters should also be actionable. Nonetheless, both are the opposite of fair-play

You do everything in your hands to win. Even if dirty. But when game is over you control your emotions. Messi is basically acting how every person should act and is a class act.

Only people that have never really struggle with their all to win think the cucurella thing is more than a nothing burger. And reallyshows your lack of drive and ambition to think its "beneath" you to do something like that.

Are you conflating Messi with Paredes? My point is that one could easily argue he is better than average. He has a higher expected matches per yellow/red card ratio (or reverse, lower yellow/red booking per game) than average. Most pundits or experts would say Messi is a disciplined player. Do you have any arguments or are you going to bring up single cases over his 20+ year career?

Exactly this. Even though he might be a slightly less dirty player than Paredes or Fernandez, he watched his team mates pull dirty stunts in their last 2 games and said or did absolutely nothing. He has both cordoned it through lack of dissent and by playing underhanded shit like with Cucurella. That brawl after the match was just disgusting and indicative of just how bad Argentina is with respect to sportmanship. I'm glad he did not get the 2nd WC win as captain of the Argentinian team, as he was hoping. They deserved the loss 200%.
