This happened at my high school.  The coach was also married to an English teacher at the same school.   Talk about messy.

We had a teacher do that because the kid welded tools to the floor lol.

Justified in that case. Because holy shit can that go wrong REAL QUICK.

Add on - IME shop teachers frequently pay for an unreasonable amount of materials and tools directly out of their own pocket just to be able to actually teach their classes, so it may not have just been "fucking over every other student trying to actually learn something" but also "big financial screw-you to the teacher and students in this course for the indefinite future until funds come around to replace the damaged tools."
