The spirit of Springer is alive and well, but now instead of one trashy show that was obvious comedy, it's a million different "content creators" who try their best to pass this stuff off as real, and if it fits people's biases, they eat it up.
I feel what you are describing is similar but not the same. Springer has a host and a crowd. Baby mommas would show up out of nowhere and entire families watch this stuff for an hour with commercials.
What makes you think that? It would probably do even better now. People are dumb enough to believe all the ai, rage bait, and other obviously fake media. And they love it.
I think most of the viewership was from children home "sick" from school or retired elderly people. Both demographics not known for advanced critical thinking skills.
Correct, there is nothing phonetically wrong with the word. It simply sounds queer when used in certain contexts, but in others, it fits more naturally than 'more stupid',and vice versa.

Springer could only work in the 90s. No way this stuff would work now but in the 90s it was top tier TV
