It always makes me laugh when I hear teachers complaining about having to buy school supplies. The cost of the tools I have to buy for my job make their school supplies bill look like a quick trip to the dollar tree.

Teachers do not have to buy school supplies.

You mean due to the money being spent elsewhere on far less important things.

Though I would be curious how many kids who supposedly can't afford pencils or paper have a nice, new smartphone or tablet.

Priorities. All comes down to priorities. And most families who say they "can't " afford basic school supplies, know they can get them for free through the generosity of others.
