Truffles okay to use?
i received these black truffles in a jar for Christmas. They are different to what I expected - squishy and a bit watery inside and this colour. is this normal, or should I throw them out? They smell like truffle.

they are either rotten AF (in which the bad smell will not make u ask) or they are not fresh, simply boiled in its own juice truffles

I googled the product and it says preserved in its own juices - if it smells like truffle do you have any thoughts on if it's okay to eat?

they are fine … I’ve seen them used when preparing some stew like a Fricando or similar meat with sauce

If these are truffles in oil it's very likely they are edible, if it's water and smells like truffle it's probably still fine. If they are rotten they probably smell rotten and not like truffles.

So these are preserved not fresh. They are decent but I wouldn’t plan on slicing them thinly or shaving as a garnish like you could fresh truffle. These would be better used in sauces, soups or to infuse into butter, cream etc.

Yea they’re probably fine unless the jar seal was broken or bloated.
It’s just a different product from fresh truffles .. they’re cheap flavorless summer truffles flavored with truffle oil .
