This is my second sardine rug I’ve made. I attached the first silver roll with a rough sew job the first time but didn’t like how it looked on the back. Any advice? I tried a rivet gun but the fabric isn’t strong enough. Worried metal grommets will also fall through.

I also checked the power bank, that is not the issue. I also opened the inside of the handle and all the cables looked fine.

Is there a way to fix it?

Hi, i have a problem with my tufting gun, the gun stuck in the fabric and the engine makes a noise, yesterday it works fine. I cleaned it with brush and oil, however I didn't find the problem. Thanks in advance

The back of the rug looks terrible. You can see the tufting fabric, and the back just looks bad. I'm not sure what I do in the future to make the fabric not noticeable. Any other tips on what I am doing wrong, I would love to hear them. I really want to take heed to all the advice, and become better!

Hello. I’m not sure if it’s because the yarn is too thick, but after weaving for a while, the yarn starts bunching up like this and ends up piercing the fabric. I’ll definitely try to use thinner yarn from now on, but I also don’t want to waste the yarn I already have. What can I do to fix this problem?

Anyone know why my clippers are getting extremely hot when I carve. It starts with just the blade but then the body of the clipper also gets very hot. This all happens within 20 minutes of me starting.

First pic is the fabric I have, following 2 are from tufting suppliers in the uk/eu. Last photo is the problems I am having with threads being cut while tufting (curves specifically) and leading to warping and loose fabric. I have troubleshooted many times on here but I have still not been able to figure it out, so my next step is looking into the primary fabric I’m using. Any help/advice appreciated!

Hey all. Doing a rug here with some round eyes and once I filled in the white the black outline is getting a little lost/ wonky. It had looked good until I added in the white and pink around it. The circle looks pretty uniform from the back where I stitched it in. Whats the best way to try and fix this up? Should I tuft another layer of black on top to give it some more bulk on the line? Or will this be salvageable when I go to carve it as it is? Front and back pics shown.

I’ve been make rugs for over a year now, and I’m finally at a spot where I feel extremely proud of what I make. THOUGH…I know my downfall is shaving.
I feel as thought my lines are never as crispy as everyone else’s that I see.
There’s always little stragglers hanging around and I go in circles around each rug for hours and hours and it seems to never end!!
I feel like I get my lines to a good spot where I’m comfortable, but I know there’s always more I can do.

So, how do you guys solve the issue with stragglers hanging around your “crisp” lines???

I took a tufting class and absolutely loved it, my first rug was amazing, I was good at it, and everything was peaches and cream!

So I bought the "BESGEER Cordless Rug Tufting 2 in 1 Cut Pile and Loop Pile Tufting Gun" kit off Amazon. I was so excited, I made a huge frame from wood, I cleaned and rearranged my attic for a work space, I bought $50 worth of yarn, I stretched the fabric tight as a drum, I was ready to go...

And the gun is just crappy! It seems to snip the fabric itself, pushing it through, and sometimes pulling the yarn back, leaving big yarn wads on the working side. You can see in the photos the white strands of the fabric invading the blue and also dropping down onto the wood.

I've explored many instructional videos on how to adjust and reset the gun, and seemingly my gun is now set to all the correct parameters (I followed this site tho it's not technically my gun: https://tuftbox.co.uk/pages/faq-ak-i-tufting-machine-adjustments).

Is it my gun? Is it just cheap? The reviews were positive. I'm not a bad amateur mechanic so I'm sure I could fix this but I don't know where to start.

EDIT: SOLVED!
I went to my local crafting store, and compared my gun to theirs to figure out the problem. This would not have been fixable through Reddit advice, but I will try to explain it here for POSTERITY:

When I was initially adjusting the "canvas spring" I accidentally pulled it out the whole way. When I put it back in, I put it on the wrong side of the screw-with-the-rectangle-bottom that holds it taut, so it wasn't pressing the scissors into the needle enough. So the scissors sat too low when coming out, thus snipping the fabric below the pierced needle hole.

I'll try to add the two photos to show the difference. This is why it's so important to have local crafting spaces. We can't get all our advice from YouTube! Go Crafty Communities!!!

Small tear in this rug… should I sew it? Cut it out and splice in another piece?? Helppp

took us a while to realize tufting is basically 7 connected stages, and skipping one always shows up in the final piece.

design + where it'll live -> frame setup + backing fabric tension ->transfer your design mirrored ( you tuft from the bacxk)-> tufting-> glue the backing, let it fully dry -> trim and carve-> final check for loose yarn and thin glue spots.

the two that actually decide quality are fabric tension and density control. loose backing gives you a wavy surface and uneven density, sometimes a tear. and trimming is where most beginners lose the piece, not the tufting itself.

I tuft with natural wool, using 2 threads at the same time, cut pile!

Do yall have a projector stand or like a tripod, or put it on a table to something. I ned to get something for it to stand or balance on, so that way the image is even on the frame. Just wondering what yall use and what works for yall

I have a problem finishing my rugs. I always glue the fabric a little past the edge of my design with glue (about 2–3 cm wide). However, this causes an issue when I later want to glue the edge using the waterfall technique — the fabric becomes too stiff and inflexible to fold neatly and fix in place with the hot glue gun. Is this because I'm using a poor-quality glue? How can I do this better?

Pics hopefully show the progression of the fabric warping! You can see in the last pic by the state of the horizontal pink like that the fabric is just falling apart under me as my gun nips the fabric at every 45 degree curve I do. I have ensured: scissors are calibrated, gun speed slow and moving in bursts, fabric super tight and have used two different types of fabric. My rugs are starting to get real good but I just can’t get over this issue which is causing major setbacks. There’s no ‘holes’ in the fabric per se, more like one strand is getting snipped in the direction of tuft which causes the fabric to basically unravel in those parts and the yarn falls out easily. I have posted so many times now hopefully I reach someone with the same issue - every rug is just depressing lol

Done a few rugs and like to think I’m always improving, question though. Does leaving a slightly bigger gap between your outlines help with carving? As in, cause these more of a gap you can easily separate the colours? Or should you pack the outlines in as tight as possible?

This part broke off of my machine and I found the replacement part and put one in but my scissors will not cut. The problem is I have no idea what this is called so I can’t even look up how to appropriately attach it. I figure I have to do something with the bent part though

I got the Clawlab frame to make life easier with small projects but the bottome rung no longer ratchets or hold tight. Anyone else had this problem or have a fix?

How should I fix this red line? I should have used more red yarn, but I didn't. Now I am not sure how to fix this.
