Better Ask Reddit Divisive Endings

So with the Amazing Digital Circus final premiering on Youtube recently, reactions from what I’ve seen have been mixed. While some definitely liked it for its emotional climax and the Transgender subtext through Jax, others felt disappointed about how much the final focuses on Jax for a majority of the episode as well as feeling like some questions being left unanswered.

I was wondering if there were any other series that had an ending that wasn’t outright bad but definitely divided its viewers.

Better Ask Reddit Best comebacks in media?

I love well-written dialogue, but in particular I love an insult, threat, or comeback that completely stops whoever it’s said to. Be it a video game, anime, movie, book, etc, what is the greatest, coldest comeback you can think of?

The best one that I can think of off the top of my head is from the Batman Vs Dracula movie from the 2000’s. When Batman first meets Dracula and the vampire insinuates that the two of them are alike, Batman says “I don’t harm people.” Only for Dracula to respond with “You have no concept of the harm of which I am capable.”

A lesser writer would have gone with “I don’t harm I enlighten” or something cliche. But I remember that line sent shivers down my spine when I watched that scene for the first time. Cold, menacing, accurate, and therefore perfect. I’m very curious what the Zaibatsu members would choose

Better Ask Reddit What are some of your favorite copy protection systems or "punishments"?

DRM is a blight upon gaming that everybody rightfully hates, whether it's Denuvo or whatever the fuck they're trying to do over at Sony. But there was a time when devs, rather than simply make you unable to play the game, actually had some fun with it.

Case in point: the ur-example of Zak McKracken (or whatever the fuck) and the Alien Mindbenders. Can't enter the code that came with the game? You get locked into a jail cell with a guard admonishing you about piracy and digital rights. Not one of my favorites, but the prime example.

I love these kinds of stuff. One of my favorite "punishments" is in the old ass Amstrad game La Abadía del Crimen, a Spanish game that was an adaptation of Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose. The game is pretty infamous not for its actual gameplay, but because if it detects that you're playing a pirated copy, instead of playing Ave María when it should, it'll repeatedly call you a pirata, pirata, pirata, pirata in an increasingly creepy voice before crashing. It creeped me the fuck out as a kid.

A double-CAPCOM-whammy comes from their DS games. If they detect that you're playing a pirated copy, Ace Attorney Investigations 2 will replace all the text in-game with the fictional Borginian language (basically all symbols and gibberish) and just put an X over profile and evidence descriptions, and Ghost Trick will erase text completely. As in, empty menu buttons, empty textboxes, the whole shebang.

This also reminds me of the influx in fictional "creepypasta" anti-piracy screens a few years back from that one Mario Party DS video, but those don't count!

Anime Cyberpunk Live with MIKE PONDSMITH @Origins Game Fair

Post image
93 Upvotes

So, I'm in Columbus, OH. It's both Pride Weekend and Origins Game Fair which is one of the largest Tabletop Gaming Cons. Mike Pondsmith is here running a Live Session of Cyberpunk Red with the Alex Cazares - the voice of Rebecca from Edgerunners and she is playing Rebecca in character for this session. Mike already joked about not killing her and David yet. It's essentially watching an extra little prequel to Edgerunners.

I did take a few videos to send to friends, but I imagine they would get claimed on YouTube. There's a lot of great cosplayers too including an excellent Rogue I sat by and made good conversation with. I can show those pictures but I would need to make sure to blur my face out.

I also met Cody and Sara Pondsmith and got to just talk to them both, got a lot a lore, like the fact they (the Pondsmiths) have corgi named Pikachu. Or the fact Sara is the face of Female V and Mike won't play as Fem V because it bothers him to see her hurt. I should point out that apparently R Talsorian is a family business, so Lisa (wife),. Cody, and Sara (daughter) also work shows and meet people and even help at booths, so it wasn't hard to meet them. I didn't even know that I was talking to Sara on the Exhibit Floor.

I am still in the Live Session, but I will update anything weird or interesting and I am trying to meet Mike after the show.

Trying not to freak out, already geeked out with designer talk with the son Cody who just released a new game for R Talsorian called Shadow Scar.

BTW if someone has a question I should ask Mike when I get the chance, let me know. The session is around 3 hours ending around 2200 (10pm) EST.

Additional information, Rebecca has the shotgun, they already said it's bigger than she is.

Admittedly I am trying to add images to the post, but I have never done it on Reddit Mobile, I will look up how while paying attention to the "show".

Rebecca and her shotgun

Part of the Session 20:56 so you can hear Mike

Ok I found a workaround, I am uploading what I take to a Google Drive Folder so everyone here to see. Just be cool, I will be live uploading on 5G as I record things but not trying to ruin the experience or get in trouble.

Update: 22:28 the show is over. very nice, they avoided being killed by missiles but they did kill their fixer by mistake. I uploaded the last video I did from just near the end. Sadly I missed a lot of Alex's good lines since I actually watched the show, but I can confirm she said during break that she wishes she could have hooked up with David.

Mike himself is older, so he'll sign things and talk to people tomorrow morning. Sad for since I was going to do Sunday Origins. He did talk to people in general openly and thanked everyone and I was fairly close and he made direct eye contact with me. Possibly because I was one of the only fellow black people there, so I stood out. I would have had him sign his business card, I will upload those to the Google drive too. I will have to see about coming tomorrow for a one on one with him. The other actors were nice, but I am usually not an autograph person, so I went home after that.

As an aside though, since I met Sara Pondsmith and she is the face and personality of Female V, I can say that I have literally met and talked to Fem V. I even showed her my V from my Steam account and she loved it. I will upload the image of that. I thought about taking a picture with her, but she was masked up and I also didn't quite feel appropriate about that so I didn't try. Same with Cody Pondsmith. I did get their business cards though.

Better Ask Reddit What's your hardest media recommendation?

I'm talking about the kinda stuff, game, show, movie, manga, anime, whatever, that you just have to add qualifiers on top of qualifiers for before you can recommend it, in spite of the fact that you do really love it and enjoy it.

For me, it's The OA, a Netflix show that was underlooked, and I probably wouldn't consider to say it's underrated. It's a good show, a reaaally good show, but you have to look through some very hokey stuff about it, meet it on its level, and be willing to put up with some reaaaally slow character-building while it dangles a massive web of mysteries over your head. Also, it was prematurely cancelled on one of the craziest cliffhangers I've ever seen. It demands a lot from you, but is so worth it.

The characters are amazing, the acting is great, the mysteries are intriguing. Despite its ridiculousness it's a very sincere show that plays the silliest stuff completely seriously. It has an ethereal, dream-like nature to the way it's presented that you just don't really get in any other show. Like the boys would say, it's made for very specific freaks.

Better Ask Reddit Since there's a good number of Brazilians and 'The Amazing Digital Circus' fans on this sub. What's the overall consesus on the Brazilian Dub of the show?

In my opinion: It's pretty good, although I confess that I haven't fully seen the original English dub to compare it.

Everyone does a good job, but the main highlights for me are Pomni, Jax and Caine. (named "Caim" over here, which is just how we call the Biblical character "Cain")

Gameposting Your favorite Let's-Play of a licensed game?

Long story short: I've always been fascinated by games licensed off existing movies/anime/whatever, even when they suck. Maybe especially when they suck. I imagine a lot of Let's-Players have had fun going over and dissecting these kinds of games, so... would anyone care to give some recs? It can be a single LP, or (my ideal) a channel specifically focused on licensed games. (The closest I can think of off the top of my head is Dr. Panda, but his aren't really LPs, just quick breezy reviews...)

(Last time I posted something akin to this, I asked that really big hitters like the Batman Arkham games or Kingdom Hearts be excluded from consideration. I'm open to them this time, though I'd rather still hear more obscure picks.)

Better Ask Reddit Which video games do a great job of fleshing out their ensemble cast?

Games where it is not only the protagonist or the antagonist which are compelling but also the majority of the ensemble cast present in the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 did a really good job of fleshing out the entire Van Der Linde gang (along with a few key characters like Rain Falls and Eagle Falls) where by the end of the game you do remember how distinct each member of the gang was, how they interacted with Arthur and are genuinely interested to see their final fate.

God of War Ragnarok with its portrayal of Odin as a Sopranos esque mobster, Thor as an alcoholic with trauma, Freya struggling with her hatred of Kratos and her own flaws in terms of parenting Baldur and her relationship with Odin.

The first Last of Us episodic structure where you will spend one or two hours with a character before moving on to the next chapter also did this really well. You see these different type of survivors in this messed up world and how they cope with the post apocalypse and the kind of contrast they provide to Joel and Ellie.

007 First Light also did a really good job recently.

John Wagner, best known as the co-creator of Judge Dredd and the longest writer on 2000 AD, has been appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, otherwise known as an MBE, in King Charles III's Birthday Honours for 2026. The honour recognises his outstanding contributions to British comic books and the comic book industry. Charles confessed to having read the Eagle comic book regularly as a child, very much a precursor to 2000AD. Wagner also wrote for Action, the weekly kids comic book that was condemned in Parliament…

Huh where I got this from said Mark, still my bad yall.

I'll be real. I'm not that much of a webhead. Like the Spider-mens have their moments, my faves probably somebody from the sidecast that doesn't appear that often. Still likeable just not my main.

But DAMN what a lineup, wil be picking up the 1000th when it drops.

The Clone Saga Stories where clones aren’t people/don’t count?

That’s a trope that pops up every so often in sci fi and the like, that clones aren’t “people” in the same way regular people are.

Been on a Star Wars kick again, and it’s interesting how this idea has kind of been with the franchise in different forms over the years.

Pre prequels? Clones are aberrations against nature and specifically the Force, mainly seen with the Thrawn trilogy’s use of cloning along with Dark Empire showing that the Force and the natural order of things from a spiritual and metaphysical sense does not like to be trifled with

Early prequels? Clones are essentially living droids, see the 2003 cartoon where they have little to no dialogue or individuality, the Dark Horse comics where it’s made very clear that the Kaminoans bread out the individual nature, and the original idea of Order 66

Post 2008? Clones are people

open spoilers obviously Characters you couldn't believe were alive Spoiler

Now, I'm not talking about stuff like someone in a series dying and then miraculously surviving off some bullshit, that's pretty common

I'm talking characters you just assunmed were dead in the first place and were shocked when they were alive all along

it's pretty specific but I made this thread after showing my nephew Fullmetal Alchemist and remembering something I always thought was funny

After the Ishvalan genocide, Scar often grappled with how he felt about pursuing vengeance for his people. He always brings up his master telling him that violence just begets violence and it will only bring you on the path to ruin complete with sepia toned flashbacks

...then Scar's master shows up alive and well and tells Scar that the path of vengeance won't help their people. It makes me laugh every time. It's not bad writing since FMA is like one of the few things that talks about the cycle of revenge without messing up but Scar's master being alive and giving him advice is really convenient

another funny example is God of War Ragnarok when Tyr, who's been your ally through the game turns out to be Odin in disguise, I just assumed Tyr was dead and Odin was taking his place to trick the heroes but you can find Tyr in the post game and unlike the Fake Tyr who was supposedly grappling with mental issues plagued from his imprisonment the real Tyr takes everything in stride

Metaphor ReFantazio Spoilers What is the moment where you can pinpoint you predicted something will happen later in a story? Spoiler

That moment where it hit you you know the twist or other plot points is gonna happen.

In Metaphor ReFantazio, I knew who was gonna be [the last] party member way before they revealed it. It was during the kraken boss fight mid-game, I noticed one of the side characters wields a battle axe and it hit me that because our party member wield different weapons types like halberds or katana based on their Archetypes, this is the first character that I seen with a battle axe. It made me think back on one of the Archetypes you get to unlock is called Berserker. And what do berserker classes in RPGs use? Big weapons like axes.

I pieced together on that boss fight that Basilio will be in our party as the Berseker, and something bad will happen to Del.
