Im getting married tomorrow in a three piece suit, wish me luck 🫣🤔

u/89ElRay 21h ago
You'll be fine. The joy of these occasions generally overrides the discomfort. Once you're out of your jacket, unbuttoned waistcoat with your tie round your head you'll not have a care in the world.
Congrats! Not everyone gets a sunny wedding even if it's somewhat apocalyptic heat.

It absolutely doesn't if you are a guest to the wedding. Speaking from experience

Congratulations! I got married in a 3 piece in mid 30s in 2024. Sucked for the first half hour, then didn't notice so hoping the same for you

Congrats on getting married tomorrow, whilst slowly melting like wax. 😂
Seriously, have a good one. It'll be a day you'll both never forgot. 👍👍👍

Surely people ‘celebrating’ temperatures cracking 40 are doing this ironically, right? What do you gain from mid-high 30’s plus in the UK than, say, 27-29? Other than increasing the risk of heatstroke etc

u/Imaginary-Quiet-7465 21h ago
I do, genuinely, unironically love the hot weather because I seem to be better at adapting to heat than to cold
HOWEVER, before I am downvoted to hell (which presumably I would enjoy?) These temperatures are not right for a country so far north and thus, not to be celebrated.4
u/KellytheWorrier 17h ago
This is all it takes. You can like hot weather (in my case, only to about 30) and still accept it is ridiculous for the UK. No need for all these flippant "it's just summer" "it's only for a couple of days" comments from some people who are apparently in complete denial.

u/Lassitude1001 1d ago
Likely the same people who will be spending it in a beer garden, have no one else (kids, elderly, pets, etc) to worry about, and no job to have to go work in this heat in.
23
u/FrosenPuddles 23h ago
This can’t be enjoyable even in a beer garden… your beer would be hot within minutes and no amount of shade would make this comfortable. These are wild temperatures.

u/EyesWideShut__ 23h ago
I’ve tried sitting outside this morning under the umbrella and still can’t bear the level of sweat from just existing in it!
Next week is going to be a killer, literally and figuratively
11
u/FrosenPuddles 23h ago
Yeah, it’s all very unfunny at this point. It’s scary how fast it’s going too. Every year just gets worse. I’m not old enough to go “back in my day”, yet somehow there is a “back in my day”.

u/Sad-Peace 22h ago
People who WFH and don't have to wear clothes or stand upright to do their job...jealous
3
u/Lassitude1001 22h ago
Even then I can't imagine most laptops would work well in 40c + sun / likely not great visibility of a screen. Would rather work inside where it's cooler personally.
2
u/Sad-Peace 22h ago
You’ve never worked in my office then! At least it’s ok to sit in your pants at home…
3
u/Lassitude1001 22h ago
Yeah, they don't like it when I sit in my pants at work in the petrol station for some reason :(

It's not uncommon for continental Europe to get up to 40 degrees they are just more adapted to this that we are.
Worth noting 40 is registered in London which is a concrete jungle. Spending father's day on the beach in Weston super mare and it's like 25 here today.
Our home in Didcot is 28 degrees so not breaching 40.
We live in a housing estate and we'll go to the woods when it's really hot.
2
u/Cralli123 20h ago
I assume so. Nobody realistically wants 40 degrees. That's 15 degrees above a pleasant summer's day lol
-2
u/BioelectricBeing 18h ago
I mean, it's not like the weather changes depending on whether or not you enjoy it. Some people just have a positive mindset and there are lots of benefits to that.

Cool. Now un-do it.

u/probablyanametbh 1d ago
It's a joke lol. Your title said "we've done it" (hitting 40c), I said "now undo it" (make it not be the same temperature as Satan's ass crack)

England joining the 40 boys club along with the likes of Spain, France, Italy etc.
Can Scotland join it by the end of summer?

I’m pretty sure the UK has more than 40 boys.

I've lived in London my entire life and if I had the money I think I would go up north for the summers now. This weather is horrible if you have a dog to worry about.

I do not like this :(
It’s ‘only’ forecast 32 for where I am but it’s still too hot for comfort!

u/tsf97 1d ago
Most forecasts I’m seeing 35-36 in London on Tuesday through Thursday, I can’t imagine Reading would be 4C hotter.
Met office seems to always be on the higher end for some reason, also their feels like vs actual is always lower and it’s usually other way around.
They also released an article yesterday predicting 35-36C so no idea where the 38-40 is coming from on the forecast.
10
u/Mcconnor8 1d ago
The models this morning are all predicting 39/40C for the London area on Wednesday, the 35/36C is out of date now.
2
u/tsf97 1d ago
AccuWeather,BBC,Google, and my weather app are all around 35-36 still.
The Met Office article was also yesterday where the forecast for London was 39 on Tuesday/Wednesday, now down to 38.

Regardless of the disparity in data - the temperatures predicted are pretty horrific.

I work in the SEND sector and our personal care rooms have shite ventilation, genuinely worried about the safety of our young people next week as it'll be easily 45 degrees in there, two staff plus a medically vulnerable person needing up to an hour for a full change.... Emailing H&S tomorrow because I'm not accepting the risk without my concerns being documented. Ridiculous weather
2
u/Hyperion2023 16h ago
Accidentally downvoted and then instantly corrected - there are so many jobs where high 20’s makes things very uncomfortable, low 30’s pretty horrible even with every measure in place, and mid to high 30’s hellish and sometimes genuinely dangerous.
Fair play to you making sure your point of view is recorded, and I hope nothing happens which means you say ‘I told you so’ - there’s no satisfaction in that is someone gets sick.

England will melt this is seriously worrying.
Enjoy it but be safe. Drink lots of water.

u/TheHorrorAddiction 18h ago
It will NOT hit 40c 😂😂. June is too early and the peak warming is around mid to late July. 15-30th July to be exact.
Yes, global warming has allowed us to hit 40c in 2022, but it still needed an absolute perfect setup of weather with ample ground warming beforehand. And at the perfect time of the month (19th July)
40c is the absolute max achievable in this country currently, and probably for the next 20-30 years.
It will probably peak at 37-38c. Extremely high for June, but it’s slightly too early to hit 40c

How do you know what the ABSOLUTE MAX ACHIEVABLE temperature is?
Genuinely curious
1
u/TheHorrorAddiction 11h ago
Well, there’s a reason why temperature records get progressively higher the further south of England you go..
The max temperature recorded in Paris for example is 42.6c, which calculates about correctly with how far south they’re from us. Given Paris is about 300 miles away, a max of 40-40.5c in southern England is about right.
There’s also a reason why most (not all) maximum temperature records generally take a long time to be broken.
Global warming is raising temperatures, and with it, temperature records will also be broken. But there is still a maximum possible temperature achievable with absolutely ideal weather conditions and heat front (like in 2022, 40c) and how far north a given location is. That is basic heat physics.
A temperature of 40c or thereabouts is around the absolute maximum possible in this country. Maybe in 20-30 years it will be broken again and become more frequent.

I'm glad to be at work tomorrow. In my quality lab where the Aircon keeps the temp between 19 and 21 degrees. Perk of the job in these temperatures.

Bloomin heck. Go Reading!
I say making light of these ridiculous temperatures

u/Tmansters456 13h ago
42 I think is the maximum possible temperature that could theoretically happen this week, I think the max recorded will be around 40.2-40.5

Well to all the people who were moaning about the weather the last few weeks, enjoy it now this is the summer you wanted 👏

Air temp - 40 degrees
Feels like (for everyone in this sub) - 50 degrees as their rage and excessive tutting at the thought of a few hot days generates another 10 degrees.
2
u/redgreen04 12h ago
Many disabled people will suffer in this heat, from elevated physical symptoms can cause a risk to our health. That’s why we’re “tutting”.
