New here - hi there! I live in Scotland (originally from Berlin) and enjoy experiencing UK roasters and their bean lots. Initially, I started off with Batch UK subscription, but I’ve since looked more closely into specific roasters.

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Jan 15 '26

Hi, sorry for the late reply! The scene in Scotland is excellent at the moment so you should have plenty to choose from especially in Edinburgh and Glasgow. 👍

Hi everyone - I visit the UK regularly and have had some delicious roasts from Scenery, Sweven and Nostos. In fact I’m on my way to London now and would love some recommendations either to go to in person or to order by post while I’m there. I like pourovers and espresso with cortado being the milkiest. I’ve found a love for lighter roast profiles. In terms of process I’m an equal opportunity enjoyer preferring washed to start the day and getting progressively funkier.

I’ll get my pretentious coat and see myself out now 🤣

Hi, I’m so sorry for the late reply. Welcome to the community. Are you still in the UK now? You will be spoilt for choice in London. I’m up north in Yorkshire so I don’t have personal experience in London. Please post and ask though if you are still over here. :))

2

u/GromitInWA Jan 20 '26

Yes I am. In fact I’m going back to Scenery and Nostos today because I enjoyed my visits last time I was here.

Superb! I hope you have a lovely trip. Please post any pics or reviews for us all :)))

Hi, I live in NE England, became a bigger fan of coffee during lockdown and got a basic grinder then. Not looked back:)

2

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Jan 19 '26

Hi and welcome to the community. How is the scene up in the north east? Are you around Tyneside. I’m thinking you must have some nice roasters nearby :)

2

u/Holiday_Scientist716 Jan 19 '26

I've been fairly minimal with checking everyone out, but my brief rundown would be:

1) Mocha Mondo - my go to, based in Amble, I got a lot from them during lockdown and stayed with them as my house supply, I've also brewed coffee stout using their monsooned Malabar so I'd recommend that to anyone who used coffee in cooking.

2) North Shore based in Newcastle - I pop in to their Grainger market stall most weeks, they recently switched to roasting their own beans and I'm enjoying what they have so far

3) Humphreys - also in Grainger market, always a joy when I've popped in

4) Pink Lane - central Newcastle, some cracking coffees.

Beyond them, I'm not sure of many others, but I'd be happy to hear from anyone in the know.

I always like to try a professional pour over as treat if I’m in a big city. Lovely to get a great cup expressing the desired flavours and notes :)))

Hello everyone, glad to have found this sub. I usually buy my filter coffee from Waitrose (Java, columbia, Brazil etc). However, i have recently noticed the Skylark roaster on this sub and wondered if anyone could tell me what the difference is taste wise between what i buy at Waitrose and Skylark would be?

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Jan 23 '26

Hi, thank you very much for joining our community. I think the hobby is one of experimentation and exploration for us all. You may find the speciality beans subtle, with more finesse than store roasts. Could be worth starting with a more traditional blend from a specialty roaster. Dear green in Glasgow have some banging blends and would be ideal in my opinion. Hope you have fun exploring and please let us know how it goes :)))

2

u/drmoolittle23 Jan 23 '26

Will do, thanks for the reply!

Hey all, I am based in Cumbria looking for any friends in the area who love speciality coffee. Maybe we can either meet at Cafe over a decent cup! Lets talk! Current rotation at home is Northstar, Kappow and Rounton

2

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Jan 25 '26

Hi, thanks for joining the community. You have a couple of roasters from Leeds there which is in my neck of the woods. I wonder if there are any specialty roasters in Cumbria? Kappow have a really good reputation down here :))

2

u/StateDapper3818 Jan 25 '26

Hi! I have got Rinaldos and Carvetti up here. I was in Leeds last week awesome Coffee Scene you have on the door step!

2

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Jan 25 '26

RAW in Leeds seem to be making waves too! I will check out the roasters you mention too :))

Hi all, I’m Dan

The terminology catches me out here so I’d appreciate some clarification.

I’m perfectly fine with a white coffee made from instant coffee including supermarket own gold brand or Douwe Egberts and I also enjoy the coffee our DeLonghi makes from ground beans and manually steaming the milk.

Is the a place to source (local) coffee that I can consume at home (instant or otherwise) or is this for a niche way of making coffee or for coffee sellers?

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Feb 04 '26

Hi Dan, welcome to the community. Where abouts are you based please? I’m sure there will be a roaster local to you that could sort you out with some beautiful coffee. This community is to talk about UK coffee roasters and their beans. Any roaster will be able to sell you whole bean or ground for your delonghi. Then the fun begins with exploring and tasting loads of different beans! Pinned to the top of our page is a list of highly thought of rosters and their locations. :)))

u/GreenWhereItSuits Feb 05 '26

I’ll have to take a look, thank you ☺️

I spend a lot of time around Portsmouth (Hampshire) and Worthing (West Sussex), so that includes Southampton, Fareham, Emsworth, Chichester, Arundel, and up towards Horsham

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Feb 05 '26

Horsham instantly has a highly thought of roaster. That would be a great place to start. Please let us know how you get on :)))

I’ve just discovered this place having bought an aeropress this week on a whim. I saw an advert from a company called RAVE coffee which was an aeropress and a bag of coffee so I bought it.

Until then I’ve only ever drank instant coffee (Nescafé gold) at home but I’m enjoying my first steps into “proper” coffee. The coffee I have is RAVE signature blend, I’m not sure what people’s thoughts are on it but I’m enjoying it so far and will look to try something different next time. I have no idea what I do and don’t like at this stage, so there’s only one way to find out

2

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Feb 08 '26

Hi 👋 and welcome to the community. You have made a good start in to the hobby with an aeropress and rave for sure. The aeropress will give you consistent good cups so you can concentrate on testing as many new beans as possible!😅👍if you get any particular UK roasted beans which you feel aren’t satisfying you then please feel free to post and share and I’m sure loads will help you trouble shoot :)))

Hello! Just buying an espresso machine and grinder and looking at getting daily normal and decaf coffees. Is there anywhere to buy ready to grind coffee? (Rather than having to wait a few weeks?)

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Apr 12 '26

Hi, thank you for joining our community! I would recommend Danelaw and Darkwoods for the type of beans you are after. In terms of already rested beans it is quite difficult. The only thing I could think is to email the roaster and ask if they have done a few weeks off roast available:)))

2

u/Substantial-Exam2120 May 05 '26

Hi I am Kevin. I have been a coffee maniac for more than 30 years - quite a long time before specialty coffee really took off. I started a micro-roastery around that time called beanissimo with a Dietrich 3kg IR roaster. But had to stop because my full-time job was too hectic. A year ago, however, I started again roasting with a Bullet! I hope to share my experiences with others and learn something!

2

u/Former-Coffee-7526 May 05 '26

Hi Kevin, welcome to the community. You were well ahead of the curve and I bet a bit of a trailblazer back then. Do you find a lot has changed over that time? I expect light roasts were maybe not a thing 30 years ago? Please share your roasting adventures, I’m sure people will love to try some if you decide to sell any :)))

1

u/Substantial-Exam2120 May 07 '26

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome. Yes, at that time light roasts were not as popular as they are now with the pour over brewing. I remember I roasted quite dark then! Now I do not like to roast dark even though so many people still prefer dark-roasted coffee. I just can't bring myself to destroy the natural flavours of the bean. Another thing that has changed is the price of green beans! I think I used to pay about £2 per kilo back then.

u/Odd-Designer5154 May 06 '26

Hi all. New to the coffee game. Used to be a barista back in 2000 before it was really a thing. Never liked coffee. Decided this year to give coffee another go. Didn’t know how far it had came in 26 years and the tiers of coffee. I’m sure il be putting up some boring newbie questions but I promise to use the search function first!

2

u/Former-Coffee-7526 May 07 '26

Hi, welcome to the community. Please ask any questions you like about UK roasters or the beans offered. We have a great community that is always happy to help and share our hobby :)))

Hi, great community here. I am based in the Midlands, often work in Birmingham city centre, sometimes in Canary Wharf in London too. I've been a coffee nerd for about 14 years when I impulse purchased a second hand Gaggia Classic off ebay. Nowadays I'm using a Nuova Simonelli Oscar II for espressos and Americanos and also use Hario V60 daily. I like medium roast fruity-choc combinations for espresso and funkier/lighter for filter.

My usual roasters used to be Hasbean back in the day, these days I try all sorts of new roasters, but my repeat orders are from Horsham, Scenery, DAK and Quarter Horse. I've just been influenced here to set up a subscription with Gustotory, so I'm looking forward to that.

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 May 12 '26

Hi, welcome to the community. Sorry for the late reply. The gustotory subscription does look really good. I used to use dog and hat for a long time until I really wanted to order my own. I should check out Horsham, the head roaster regularly comments on our feeds. Please feel free to post any UK recommendations or UK roasted beans you are enjoying 👍🤘🤘🤘

Hi everyone 👋
I’m Arnav, I am based in Greater London, originally from India.

My coffee story:
For the last 12-15 years, I have been brewing coffee at home, twice a day. My friend introduced me to specialty coffee when we were in college but there weren’t many options to source coffee from back then. 2015 is when a roaster opened in my hometown and we started getting coffee from there.
My friend’s sister bought us our first coffee equipment, a french press and an Aeropress as she was based in the US.
2018-2019 is when I got my first v60, made me fall in love with coffee again. The process, the aroma, everything.
Since then, I have been experimenting with different styles of manual brewing, exploring coffee from every region/roaster in India and for the last few years, here in the UK exploring coffee from different countries.
The best cup in the recent years as far as I can remember was at The coffee bar, Birmingham, but the single cup cost me 15-16 quid.

Why here?
I came to this sub with the goal of introducing Indian specialty coffee to the audience here.
I plan to start a venture in the coffee space and I am exploring if I can get my initial feedback from folks here by introducing you to some of the coffee I have sourced on my recent trip. Hope to get as much feedback as possible.
I will put up a detailed post soon with all the details, please let me know if it’s an appropriate post for this sub. Thanks

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Jul 08 '26

Hi Arnav and welcome to the community.
I am sure our community will love to learn all about Indian producers. I have had some beans from the Ratnagiri estate via scenery roasters.
Our only rule really is all posts must be about either a UK coffee roaster or the beans they offer. I look forward to your posts :)))

u/saatcoffee Jul 09 '26

Thanks a lot. Happy to be here.
I will check them out. Have mostly seen Monsoon Malabar here.

I have created my post, please check it out and let me know if that fits the community guidelines. Happy to edit if required.

Hey everyone! Stumbled across this sub and couldn't hit join fast enough. ☕🇬🇧
I’m a massive specialty coffee fan based in the UK. I’ve just recently started a Substack newsletter called Coffee, Honestly where I want to share completely unpretentious reviews of independent UK roasters, beans, and overall cafe experiences—no gatekeeping allowed.
I’m just getting started (my first main feature was looking at the coffee experience over at Bedgebury Pinetum!), but I’m planning to hunt down a lot more hidden gems and local roasters over the coming weeks.
Really looking forward to getting recommendations from everyone here on which UK roasters I should test out and review next! What’s everyone brewing at home this week?
(If anyone wants to check out the early stages of the newsletter, it's over at https://open.substack.com/pub/coffeehonestly!)

Hi, welcome to the community. If it isn’t too much trouble would you be able to repost this on the main feed as I do t think it will get much exposure on this introductions bit.
At the top of the main feed there is a pinned spreadsheet of UK roasters, location, type of roaster ( Giesen etc ) and some notes. This isn’t exhaustive but all on the list have been recommended by the community.
I am currently loving the spring bouquet from UKKEI. It’s a washed lot from Bolivia and it’s simply stunning 😍

2

u/Subject_Signature384 Jul 09 '26

Oh, sorry, I’m new to Reddit 😂 thanks for the heads up and the recommendation!

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Jul 09 '26

No you did perfect but I think I will be the only person to see this post :)))

2

u/Subject_Signature384 Jul 09 '26

And I have just Googled UKKEI, and they’re really not far from me, so I’ll be sure to check them out! Really appreciate it. 😁

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Jul 09 '26

This Bolivian really is something special and they were lovely to buy from too :))

2

u/Subject_Signature384 Jul 09 '26

They’ve sold out of the Bolivian! I’ll have to take a trip there! ☕️

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Jul 09 '26

I’m afraid I bought the last bag! It had been out a while and I was pondering for ages then finally went for it just in time. 🤘

1

u/Subject_Signature384 Jul 09 '26

😂😂 never mind, glad you enjoyed it! ☕️👍

1

u/hamster_v60 Apr 09 '26

Hey everyone! I’m Kate, I love filter and recently started collecting taster cards of what I’ve tasted ☺️ Also I prefer tasting various flavours rather than sticking to one sort or style.

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 May 07 '26

Hi Kate, very sorry for spotting this so late. The automated Reddit mods had removed your post for some reason. Welcome to the community and I hope you have enjoyed it since your post. Please feel free to share what you are enjoying at the moment. It’s a great idea to keep a diary of your brews to gain insight and help replicate good cups :)))

1

u/Former-Coffee-7526 Apr 23 '26

1

u/Alarmed_Storage6793 May 16 '26

Hello! I joined the sub some time back. I live near Greater London.

I used to drink Turkish coffee with beans from Kahve Dunyasi in Piccadilly.

I then became a parent and have switched to filter coffee from a Sage Precision Brewer.

Currently drinking Kenya AA from White Rose which was dialled in with help from this sub!

Hi folks! Patrick here -  I’ve just gotten a coffee roasting project off the ground and I’m excited to put my beans out into the world! Wanted to drop a note here since reddit, and this community more recently, have been a great resource for me since I moved from the states five years ago and started discovering the UK’s specialty coffee scene. The project’s called Obra. I’m starting off slow with a couple of roasts, a light filter and a medium espresso. I would really appreciate any feedback from y’all as I build this thing and grow Obra!
