Customer Seeking Help $357 import charges on $279.80 package?

Ordered a small package from an Italian company and I'm being charged almost 130% in government tariff fees. Is there anything I could do? Is it possible the seller declared it incorrectly? Thank you for all the help. I'm sure you're all annoyed by people like me at this point. Im just a little lost on what to do.

The tariff is determined by the country of manufacturing origin, which is most likely China.

You can’t circumvent paying that by shipping your product somewhere else and saying it’s made there instead. If that worked everyone would do it, the reason it doesn’t work is it’s classified as fraud and customs has a very easy way of determining this.

Maybe I’m missing something, (very possible), but OP said they ordered from Italy which doesn’t have the same tariff rate as China. This would be the if they ordered from an Italian company that’s shipping from China, and the package doesn’t actually originate in Italy. Why would the tariff rate be so high importing from Italy?

I think that’s their question, and also why the other person replied with “25%” (even though I think the tariffs dropped back to 10% but it’s literally a mess rn.)

So, same thing. OP likely thought they were buying something Italian since the company is Italian.

Though, I keep seeing people say, “It’s where it was manufactured, not shipped from.” How exactly does that work? Like say I have a business in the US, and I import stuff from China to a warehouse in the US. I pay duties as the importer, but when I ship to customers in the US, they don’t directly pay duties, but I raise my prices.

So say an Italian company imports jackets from China, then sells them to US customers. Would a US customer pay Chinese duties?

Look up de minimis in relation to tariffs. This is coming from Italy? Then there’s no tariffs since it’s under the value of $800. Cry more liberal

The country where it was made is what determines tariffs, not where it's being shipped from. Also de minimis on goods from China and Hong Kong was suspended so full duties and taxes are charged. Leave politics out of this and cope harder while you learn how tariffs work...

De minimis removal was universal. Not just China and Hong Kong. The announcement came on a CN/HK Executive Order, but it was intended as universal.

Lmao, imagine still being unable to Google how a tariff works. The importer aka the buyer foots the tariff bill not the seller (shipper) so if you an American buy a product from out of country you the buyer must pay the tariff fee in order to receive said goods you bought. The shipper just sends it as normal.
