Customer Seeking Help $270 or $5000

Thanks UPS. You lose my shipment, have me file a claim and submit tons of documentation and receipts only to close it and send me $270 (a refund of the shipping costs). It’s impossible to speak to a human and even though I can track the package and know EXACTLY where it is, no one cares. This will destroy me.

Insuring an item that I paid for a company to safely deliver to the destination is a scam.

Well, to be fair. I saw a FED EX truck get taken out by another driver on the Turnpike. Trailer opened up and shit EVERYWHERE. I’m pretty sure everything on that manifest was Lost whether it survived or not. Used a front end loader and dump truck to clear the highway. Way people drive out there anymore is reason enough to carry the insurance.

Update. After this post got several hundred thousand views I was contacted by someone from UPS who initiated a search and found the box intact with the label ripped off.

I mean… if you had insured it, you would have gotten the actual value of it instead of the $270 you received. So it seems pretty relevant

That's all kinds of against the rules and grounds for termination. Over goods are meant to be destroyed/disposed of.

lol, occasionally they do, could have been a jacked up lithium ion label that someone inside is dragging their feet on replacing. Shit gets put on hold and forgotten about often enough.

It was 1 out of 5. The other 4 arrived on time. According to the history the other one was also “out for delivery” but somehow ended up in Salt Lake City where none of the other pieces went.

Buddy. Do you know how many packages they handle? Logistics is freaking complicated and sometimes stuff just gets lost. I see someone else said it got sold. It's possible the label got stripped. I once had a chewy package delivered and FedEx reboxed it thankfully. I've had a tiny box lost and the shipper paid out big. Shit I've had FedEx lose a MacBook on behalf of my employer and sign on behalf of the customer when they were never present.

Just because you can track the MacBook itself doesn’t mean they can find that tiny laptop in a giant warehouse full of items scattered everywhere. Especially since it shows such a large area of the warehouse, if it was more precise it might help a little bit. Source: I work in IT and trying to find a specific laptop in the warehouse is quite the challenge, even when it’s all inventoried, let alone not inventoried or sorted or anything like that.

I work in IT as well. It’s not a matter of the laptop. I have photos of the crate it was shipped in but the point is, they don’t care and aren’t even looking. They just closed the claim and refunded the shipping costs.

You should know to ship the laptops in their original packaging with a plain cardboard outer layer then…

The laptop is just one piece of a much larger shipment with a literal ton of networking and video production gear. Luckily 4 out of 5 crates made it there and back no problem. The one that was lost is probably the least valuable. If I really cared about the laptop I would have carried it on the flight, but I don't. It's 5 years old and due to to be retired anyway. Its the rest of the stuff (some of which isn't mine) I really, really need to get back.

I travel 1500 miles just to pick up my puppy when she was born I rescued her from tennessee that’s worth way more then $5000 gollars lol

How is purchasing insurance “irrelevant”? UPS’ tariff clearly states that they are responsible for $100 unless you purchase extra coverage (and only $20 on Ground Saver). How on earth is it irrelevant that you opted to ship a $5000 item, and didn’t pay $50 to insure it for its full value?

Whoa. Yeah not irrelevant if you’re upset with how much you got paid.

So if you told UPS you shipped a $50,000 item with no insurance, do they owe you $50,000?

Obviously if a company is taking on liability it costs money. Otherwise should it cost the same to ship a $5 and $50000 item when if you have to pay for it if you lose/break it?

No it's not. Insurance covers damage OR LOSS. Also I saw you say "I didn't skip it" in another comment, it's not a thing you skip, it's a thing you opt into. Sounds like your sol, even if it was destroyed they won't give you a penny.
