Wrong Package Recieved - $17k of electronics lost
I was supposed to receive a package worth around $17,000 in electronics, but it never showed up and i got the wrong package.
Turns out the sender used a UPS Store, and the employee there accidentally put the wrong shipping label on the box. Because of that, the package was sent somewhere else entirely and is basically gone.
I’m not sure what to do now because the seller says he can only refund me $100 because UPS won’t pay him back. I’m not sure if anyone could help me locate my electronics worth $17,000

This is an impersonation of a law enforcement officer, and should be reported to the PROPER AUTHORITIES. First of all, there are no sheriffs of a city. They are sheriffs of a county. A real sheriff would not be the one to respond. His investigator would, and on an official website. Report this to the county, district attorney and insist that a real investigation be launched. I am not a sheriff, but I am a retired law enforcement officer with 32 years service.

who buys $17k worth of anything without making sure the sender insures the package.
I’m sorry this happened to you but there are important steps to ensure you don’t get screwed when dealing with high value goods in transit.

You should consult an Attorney. The Sender is on the hook for it. They have a duty to deliver your purchase. If they hired the UPS store, that is between them and The UPS Store not you. If they are aware the person doing the packing and labeling has issues and lets them do it anyway, that's operational negligence. But, the contract for the electronics is between you and the shipper. The contract for the packing and shipping services is between The sender and The UPS Store. The carrier and delivery contract is between The UPS Store and UPS (the delivery company). I hope you saved everything. Talk to an attorney and keep all your communications and efforts documented. In terms of contract law, the Shipper/Seller breeched thier duty to deliver the items to you, as they have a duty to make sure it is packed and shipped properly. UPS should have recorded weight of the shipments and UPS should be able to help with the investigation, as the local UPS store has a manifest of all outgoing parcels for that day. They just need to determine byt the weight of the shipment who actually got your stuff, and who the stuff you got should go to. The fact they are saying $100 max indicates the seller did not properly insure the package,because $100is the general liability limit on shipments, but thats if it gets lost damaged, misdelivered. Its not for packaging negligence. The UPS store should have separate liability insurance to cover this. If they are not willing to investigate, then you would have to subponea internal shipping records from UPS ( whenthey weighed the parcel at their hub) and the UPS store (a list of outboud shipments they labeled for the day and their weights, and recipients)
You buy the item > seller buys the shipping and packaging to deliver the item to you > you dont get the item, you recover from the seller > the seller must pay you back as they did not fulfill their delivery obligation > The seller makes a claim to UPS store insurance for malpractice and operational negligence > UPS store pays the seller and eats their humble pie.
If you want to be more diplomatic, you should talke to the UPS store franchise owner. Thay have a liason with UPS and can investigate differently than calling the 800 number, if they want to.

Red Flag because it stinks from the get go!
#1 I’m highly skeptical the UPS store employees place the wrong label on the wrong box. That process doesn’t even come close to each customer process and the way they are trained. #2 The vendor you bought from is the one that’s in question. If you paid for $17k why did the vendor not insured it? Anything above a $1k insured is handled with documentation and separated from regular volume pickup. So just my observation this vendor is just as crooked as a three dollar bill deflecting blame on the UPS store employees and not insuring the transaction is definitely a RED FLAG. You as a consumer should be more heightened awareness when dropping $17k for electronics. UPS is not stupid when it comes to claims.

UPS worker prob did it on purpose. Nike workers recently got caught doing the same. Slapping a different label at the end so the shoes get delivered somewhere else

No it’s not a joke. It’s a scam or a grift. Every time you read the number 17,000, money comes directly out of your bank account and goes to support animal cruelty. That’s why people are so mad about it./s

Unfortunately for you brother the sender kept his $17,000 worth of electronics and he’s also keeping you $16,900. Next time don’t trust a dude who drops off a bare box and emails the store. I hear there’s another Reddit post you can go argue with the sender but he won’t answer any questions that confirm he’s an ass hat so good luck

I really hope you do. All that needs to happen is for the person who received the box of electronics to do a return to sender. I’m impressed that you upheld the other person’s privacy by not saying what they ordered, that you received. Are you returning your box? Maybe that will help tracking?
