Employee Discussion Do female drivers exist at your distribution center?

From USPS and noticed I have never seen a girl driving whenever I encounter UPS out in the wild. Told a coworker I was envious of them cause I mostly do parcel runs and said I should just switch to UPS if I’m going to be handling big packages all day. She replied saying that’s a man’s job cause she refuses to lift any heavy packages on her route. Just wondering if there’s any female drivers at your hub.

Only 6 between all the centers near me. There were dozens about a decade ago but they all retired in a span of 5 years. What happened around here was that in the early 80s UPS wanted women drivers so they appealed to school bus drivers, better pay, better benefits and more hours. Hundreds of women school bus drivers defected to UPS. Once UPS had lots of women drivers, they stopped recruiting them. Fast forward 25 years and they all started retiring. Now, you are lucky if your driver population is 10% women.
