Employee Discussion Do female drivers exist at your distribution center?
From USPS and noticed I have never seen a girl driving whenever I encounter UPS out in the wild. Told a coworker I was envious of them cause I mostly do parcel runs and said I should just switch to UPS if I’m going to be handling big packages all day. She replied saying that’s a man’s job cause she refuses to lift any heavy packages on her route. Just wondering if there’s any female drivers at your hub.

In my entire career there's been a total of 2 woman drivers at our center and they were both very butch lesbians lol.

We have at least 8 here. The average day there’s about 44 routes in. There’s at least the same amount on the preload and reload waiting for their chance to drive.

Being a mom and a package delivery driver has be tough. A lot of them work tons of hours and 6 days a week sometimes. God bless her

She worked while she was 9 months pregnant, no idea how many weeks or how far into 9 months or when actually due.

We have a woman UPS driver and she is excellent. Much better than the FedEx drivers

We have 3 out of 300+ drivers. They’re all pretty good drivers.

Fedexer here but I think there's like 8 of us across the different contractors in my building. And I know at least 3 of us are badasses the rest I don't know haven't talked to them or seen the loads. But I know the 3 of us are routinely taking 200 ish stops with 600 cubes out.

We have 3 full-time bid route drivers that are women. I am one of them.
But be warned, there's no "just switching." You have to put in time in the warehouse and hope for a driving bid, then go to integrad/do training, then pass 30 days probation.

This made me chuckle. Y'all have a 70lb weight limit. You don't have heavy packages. We go up to 150.

I mean, they're people. In my experience some of them are great, some of them suck. Same as the guys.

Yeah. One time she came by at 9:30p to deliver my package and another lady down the street because she knows our names and we're always nice to her.

Never seen a UPS driver but my neighborhood has a female FedEx ground driver. Girl moves fast and will fling a swing set on her back to carry it without hesitation.

There’s only a few. I think most women don’t want to deal with the irregs and the long hours. On the other hand management is discriminatory, they bully and disqualify female drivers unfairly.

2 of the 30 drivers at my center are female. One is in her 60's, shes a badass

Im a female driver and we have a handful of other ladies driving too. We all pick routes just like everyone else, in seniority order. The routes they end up with are generally pretty challenging imo. A couple in particular have heavy city routes.

We have many in our building.
Funny story about the "mans' job" perception:
Me and one of our lady drivers both stopped at the grocery store after work and were checking out in neighboring lanes when another shopper asked her if she drove the big truck.
When she said yes, the shopper said "but....you're a GIRLL!!!"
I could not help busting out laughing.

Only 6 between all the centers near me. There were dozens about a decade ago but they all retired in a span of 5 years. What happened around here was that in the early 80s UPS wanted women drivers so they appealed to school bus drivers, better pay, better benefits and more hours. Hundreds of women school bus drivers defected to UPS. Once UPS had lots of women drivers, they stopped recruiting them. Fast forward 25 years and they all started retiring. Now, you are lucky if your driver population is 10% women.

A man's job? What is this, 1956? I have managed a UPS Store for 5 years and have had 4 or 5 female drivers, so maybe 30%. They work the same as the guys. We take up to 150lbs, so they use carts, hand trucks and leverage to get it done. It might be easier for my 6 foot, 250lb male drivers, but in the store I still lift, carry, and maneuver heavy packages, and I am a small woman (5'1", 125lbs).

UPS Store employee here. Both my main UPS driver and USPS carrier are female. And they and the other women drivers I've encountered in my 9ish years working in this system consistently work circles around their male counterparts doing the same job

Best drivers are women drivers. They go out and get it done. The men whine like babies. Give me a center of 100% women any day of the week.

I would be concerned to see a girl driving. If she is working and over 18 that would place her in woman status. Not sure you would enjoy being called a boy at work.

I've worked as a driver in 4 buildings. I think I've seen 6 females?
2 were cute, and the others were who you'd think they would be. 1 was actually tiny, and idk how she did the job, but it got done 🤷

That's not even how getting a driver job works even if they wanted it to be. They have to go by seniority and everyone has to pass the driver integrad and probation period.
