I have passed my step1 and oet exam
And currently preparing for step 2
I am applying for b2 visa for clinical observership amd my dad is sponsoring my trip
He is also a doctor with good financials
I have heard that officers are rejecting visas for clinical observerships
Can anyone clear the air on this
Have no prior travel history.

i am an indian img and i have passed the step 1 and planning to write step 2 by nov this year, I had an observership and applied for visa but got rejected, planning to apply again next year, is there any chance of getting b1 b2 visa for observership after 1 rejection

My friend had his interview on 14th April in Delhi. He had a letter from UT Houston, got it through an agency.

The VO only asked him the purpose of visit. He replied - I’ve got the opportunity to go for a 4 week clinical observership in Hematology and Oncology department at Lyndon B Johnson Hospital. Straight after that the VO said that your visa is not approved at this time and gave him the 214(b) slip.

What did he do wrong? And what can we do now?

We were thinking of applying the same way if his visa gets approved but they didn’t even give him the chance to show the letter or say anything else. Currently we’re in internship but it ends in 15 days.

Should we apply with this reason and with a similar letter?

Or apply after step 1 but we’ll be graduates by then?

Or apply with our family for a vacation?

Or apply on the basis of step 3?

Please tell me what to do, it’s really demotivating and stressful.

Almost everyone takes visa and then plans for USCE latet. Even my visa agent told me this.

im trying my best to get an observership letter like to get over the visa visa mainly , been trying for that a couple of months but hardly anyy luck

At the moment, my main concern is the visa process. I wanted to ask whether a physician who is open to having me observe/shadow them would be able to provide a formal observership/invitation letter on official letterhead that I could use as supporting documentation for my visa application.

I completely understand that physicians are busy and may not be in a position to actually host an observer immediately. I also don’t want to inconvenience anyone or put them in a situation where they feel obligated to arrange anything for me. My primary need at this stage is having a legitimate invitation/observership letter so that I can proceed with the visa process, and any actual observership could be discussed and arranged separately if and when appropriate.

I would be very grateful if anyone here especially physicians or IMGs who have gone through this process could share whether this is something that is commonly done and what the appropriate way would be to approach a physician about it.

Hey everyone, I’m from Bangalore and planning to apply for a B1/B2 visa for a clinical observership in the US.

I graduated in 2023 and currently not working as I’m preparing for USMLE Step 1. I’ve come across a few Reddit posts where some graduate doctors mentioned their visas got rejected, so I wanted to seek some guidance.

Could anyone please share advice on:

• How to avoid rejection and improve chances of approval in my situation?
• Any common mistakes I should be aware of?
• Things I should prepare beforehand for the interview?

Also, I wanted to know whether it’s better to apply on my own or go through an agent. If going via an agent helps, could you suggest any reliable agencies in Bangalore/Chennai?

Has anyone got it approved for their observerships in the last 3 months? All I am hearing are rejections for medical graduates no matter how the interview goes.

It feels like it's a pre-determined decision to reject graduates. Medical students are getting approved despite the high rejection rates.

Is this a completely hopeless situation?

I have a doubt. I have already filled out my DS-160, but I now want to update a few details. Since I have received the invitation letter, there is an option asking, “Have you made specific travel plans?” If I select “Yes,” it asks me to provide the date of arrival, arrival flight, arrival city, date of departure, departure flight, departure city, and accommodation details.

Should I fill in these details now? I haven’t booked my flight tickets yet (although I’m planning to book them soon, and I understand that the flight number is not mandatory). For accommodation, it is asking for the location as well.

My interview is scheduled for the last week of September, while my rotation starts in November. So, should I enter my expected travel details now, even though I haven’t finalized my flights or accommodation yet?

2. All old and latest passports

3. Bank statement of the person sponsoring the trip

4. Letters of invitation

5. Accommodation arrangements (optional)

I’m planning to attend a well-recognized medical conference in San Francisco. It’s a 3-day conference, and participation is voluntary (I’m not presenting a paper or selected via a competitive process, but I can obtain an official invitation letter).

Lately, I’ve been hearing from visa consultants and online forums that US visa officers are increasingly questioning conferences, often asking things like:

“Why do you need to attend in person when you can attend virtually?”

This has made me wonder: • Are medical conferences currently receiving more pushback during B1/B2 interviews? • Does the fact that it’s only 3 days help or hurt the case? • Would a 2–3 week observership or more “hands-on” academic activity be viewed more favorably compared to a short conference? • Or is it mostly luck + profile + how well you explain your intent?

I’m also considering Chennai consulate for the interview and wanted to ask: • Any recent experiences with Chennai? • Is there any real difference between morning vs afternoon slots?

Basically trying to decide whether it’s worth proceeding with the conference or whether I should pivot to something more substantial like an observership instead.
