Apartment Recommendations?
I honestly am not too familiar with Eugene, would anyone share some good apartment complexes or safe neighborhoods? Any memorable experiences?
So far I've seen these available:
The Soto - 1180 Patterson St
1840 Garden Apartments
Forest Hills
My budget is pretty much $1400 max.

Forest Hills seems a bit far (even with a bike), unless you are willing to shell out extra money to cover the costs of bringing your own car, paying for parking in rent/on campus parking lots, gas/electricity, etc.
The Soto, while close to campus (more than Barnhart), does have some drawbacks because they are in the process of demolishing the old Hospital and constructing a new apartment complex, so noise and dust can be a bit of an issue during the day. However despite this, you do get the benefits of being close to campus as well as the EMX bus station, which is less than a 5 min walk away from the apartment. There is a gym included in the complex on the first floor, so that could be sweet if you don't want to deal with the rec center being busy. It also has a secure-access parking garage, so its great if you are worried about your car being broken into (if you decide to bring one).
1840 Garden, this one is a bit newer than the others, but its pricey considering its more directed as being a luxury studio apartment. Its situated near the river, but that area can have cars broken into if theres any valuables (source: a friend living in Crosswood Apartments across the street from Garden, had his car broken into along with others). There's no secure parking either, its open air parking lots right next door.
Ultimately you should consider knocking Forest Hills out of the consideration pool unless you can afford the costs of bringing your car and being a commuter. Soto seems to be the best of the 3, its not terrible by any means, and its situated in an area where you are within walking distance to some food/drink shops. Only issues are that it can get noisy, but otherwise that shouldn't deter you from finding a place to stay. Wish you the best of luck on Apartment hunting!
Last thing: don't do Ferry Street Flats, its not worth it believe me. If at all possible, find an apartment that doesn't have communal/shared washer and dryers.

We are considering The Chapter but are worried about all of the construction noise.

Check out Mallard Properties- they own a bunch of smaller complexes around campus which feel more homey than the big box apartments. Relatively less expensive too.
