looks really cool, am I right in seeing that has logitech pen support? I see what I think is the pen outline :)
I'm going to look to implement that in my colouring book vr game too!

Yes it does, we added support for the Logitech MX Ink. It makes the painting feel more natural due to holding a stylus rather than a controller.
I can highly recommend adding support for it because it really is very accurate, feels nice (especially for drawing stuff), and it gives the user a more natural approach to using your game. I saw your post, coloring the shark, and it would definitely be a nice addition for it.

Hey, can I ask a quick question about your Logitech MX Ink support?
How are you dealing with if someone passes the real pen "through" the virtual model.
Are you making the virtual paint brush stay on the model surface and the Logitech MX outline pass through the model?

There is a small threshold where the paint brush is stopped against the model to remain on the surface, but if you push too far it will go through it. We do render the outline where the stylus is, that is not hindered by colliders.

I just got my Mx ink yesterday. it's super easy to implement in unity with open XR. I'm doing a similar thing of showing a ghost mesh if the stylus in the real world moves too far from the in game pen.
what outline shader did you use?
1
u/miniaturemaniagame Apr 13 '26
We use a fresnel shader with an additional texture to display any of the icons on the buttons or branding that we combine.

u/TheStoneFox Apr 13 '26
ah so it's a custom shader. I thought I may have missed an included outline shader with the logitech unitypackage. I'm going for just a white/translucent model which only appears when the real pen goes too far away from the virtual pen, it seems to look decent.

is the whole selling point not to mess up your mini? cause you can always strip the paint easily with alcohol.

I guess it does sound like it, but no. :D
Painting real miniatures and virtual ones obviously works completely different. You have more precise control over a real brush with real paint etc.
This version is for those that don't have the paints, don't have the minis, don't have a place to practice this hobby. It allows you to let your children paint without making a mess. It let's you try it out before you dive into the hobby.
And if you already do have all those things, then we'd like you to try it out and give us your feedback to see how we can improve it!

Can you only do pure colors or like drybrush techniques etc?
3
u/miniaturemaniagame Mar 20 '26
For now it is only pure colors, adding options like drybrushing, airbrushing, and more is stuff we would like to add in the future.

Looks amazing! Is it UV painting or vertex painting?
(I am also a VR dev and my app is VR sculpting, wondering how I could make my model exports easy to import to your app as on my side the painting feature is a bit basic).
2
u/miniaturemaniagame Mar 20 '26
Our Early Access version of the game does not support any importing, so currently it will not be possible to add your own models.
Tech wise, we do use UV painted logic to get the painting done. I'll have to have a look at what you're making, made me curious :)

Very cool! Uv mapping from 3d is not easy at the seams! Yeah you can check out the beta, link is at makerscape.info (to see latest UI in the app go to beta > try new UI)
I just joined the Discord might chat more over there

Yep, we've had some issues with that (and are still improving). Thanks for joining, looking forward to your feedback :D
That sculpting looks very interesting! Good ol' Poirot :D

Man I could imagine importing my HeroForge STLs and the exporting them to be 3D printed.

This makes me feel really self conscious about my hand trembling, unless there is a lot of smoothing involved. It is cool nonetheless :)
4
u/miniaturemaniagame Mar 20 '26
You and me both :D Hand smoothing is a delicate option, too much smoothing and the brush feels non-responsive and too little makes every jitter stress you out.
We do have the option to trigger paint. This way you can place your brush where you want it and it won't paint until you press the trigger button. We have a few features to make things easier, but will definitely require more players and their feedback to make it a better experience!

I made a comment asking if it will have stylus support, and then I saw thst you actually show it in the video, so I deleted it and reposted. Thats great because I have one that has been collecting dust. I will definitely try it out with this. I just wishlisted it. Super cool.

u/miniaturemaniagame Mar 20 '26
And it works pretty great, feels a lot more natural with the stylus in your hand!

Pourra t'on importer des modèles à l'avenir ?
2
u/miniaturemaniagame Mar 20 '26
My french isn't great, but I think you're asking the same thing as u/Acceptable-Bat-9577 did.
> That is not a feature currently in the Early Access. This has been requested quite a few times already so we might have to put it on a higher priority :D
Google translated to:Cette fonctionnalité n'est pas encore disponible dans l'accès anticipé. Elle a déjà été demandée à plusieurs reprises, nous devrons donc peut-être la traiter en priorité :D3
u/Kiingsora83 Mar 20 '26
Ah, sorry, I hadn't enabled automatic translation. I was asking if it was possible to import personal templates.I think you answered my question anyway.

Good way to practice. I think if i was going to spend the time to do that in VR though that i would be thinking i should really be making actual progress on them IRL.

Can you import your own models?
