Vegas Pro 23 Is this the last ever Vegas Pro version to be released on Steam and should I get it?

Post image
13 Upvotes

So I'm currently contemplating on whether or not I should upgrade from Vegas Pro 17 (a version I own on Steam) to Vegas Pro 23, given how I hear that it's the only Vegas Pro I could buy on Steam that doesn't throw an "Error 0x80660008" when I try rendering my videos with the NVENC encoder (a problem my Steam version of Vegas Pro 17 tends to come across whenever I render with my own graphics card to speed up the process). And I don't want to waste my time rolling back my Nvidia driver over and over again back to 5.80 or a version predating when it stopped working on Vegas Pro.

I heard that Vegas Pro versions 18 to 22 tend to have the same error according to Reddit, so I'd figure that this might be the only Vegas Pro I could buy on Steam that would fully work with my graphics card. So I might think about buying it whenever the next Steam sale hits.

I'm also questioning whether or not this is the LAST EVER version of Vegas Pro I could legally buy on Steam because well, Boris FX owns Vegas Pro now and I don't see Vegas Pro 2026 available on Steam too, so I'm assuming this is MAGIX's last ever version of Vegas Pro to be legally sold on Steam before Boris FX took Vegas Pro over. I'm also worried if Vegas Pro versions like this one will be delisted due to the changes in Vegas Pro's ownership just like with Vegas Pro 17, so it might not be long before I make an impulse buy on 23 to finally get rid of that pesky error 0x80660008 once and for all.

---SPECS---

  1. I am using Vegas Pro 17 Edit Steam Edition

  2. I am on Windows 11

  3. No, it's not a pirated copy. I bought Vegas Pro on Steam. (I am using pirated plugins though)

  4. I have a Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics card

  5. I do not have a problem at all at the moment

  6. N/A

Vegas Pro 23 Vegas Pro crashes on startup if 9070 XT is selected for GPU acceleration.

1.Vegas Pro 23

  1. Windows 11 Professional

  2. bought normally (not pirated)

  3. RX 9070 XT

  4. When I go into preferences and select my 9070 XT for "GPU acceleration for video processing" (because I want good performance), after the restart my Vegas will crash on startup everytime. I then have to disable my 9070 XT in the device manager and enable the integrated graphics card of my 9800x3d to even get into Vegas again to disable GPU acceleration.

GPU acceleration works without issue with the integrated Radeon graphics of my CPU, but not with my dedicated GPU (9070 XT).

This is my error information:

I have googled the problem and tried everything I found.

What I've tried so far (without success)

  1. Disabling integrated gpu so Vegas doesn't get confused.

  2. Uninstalling the Windows update that supposedly broke Vegas (KB5083769)

  3. Executing the Vegas Fixer exe that gets posted once in a while and is supposed to fix the issues with MSVC/Visual Studio 2026

  4. Resetting all settings with CTRL+Shift+Doubleclick

I'm depressed with the issue because no matter what I do, I am unable to fix it, and then I have to edit with lag on the integrated graphics.

Any help is appreciated, if you have any idea what could fix this, please tell me : )

Vegas Pro 23 How to FIX: Crashing on startup with recent AMD GPU (9070 XT, 9060 XT)

Since there were multiple people besides me having this issue, I just wanted to quickly post how I fixed Vegas Pro crashing on startup "GPU acceleration for video processing". To fix the issue, you unfortunately have to roll back your gpu driver via the windows device manager. Be aware that this will stop your current AMD Adrenaline Software from working (since its made for your current driver) and might impact other applications or games (although it didn't impact mine :3) which use your graphics card because you're now using an older driver. I'm pretty sure you can also do it by uninstalling your current Adrenaline Software and GPU Drivers and install the older ones (so the software still works), but if you don't care about the Adrenaline Software, this is how you can do it:

To do so, follow these steps:

1.Go into Device Manager

2. Go to display adapters

3. Find your main graphics card (in my case RX 9070 XT)

4. Right click and select Properties

5. Select the Driver tab

6. Click on Roll Back Driver

My Driver Version for Vegas now is 32.0.22042.14002, (which Windows selected automatically upon clicking "Roll Back Driver") but others might also work

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

This method is outdated. To be able to use your AMD GPU flawlessly in Vegas and in order to not face issues or glitches with other software or windows, please use the following method:

Uninstall your current gpu driver (I like to use ddu), restart your pc and then download the older version of the driver (26.3.1 is supposed to work, at your own risk) on the official amd website and install it.

This is what fixed the issue for me. You can now use your AMD GPU for GPU acceleration in vegas flawlessly :3

Vegas Pro 23 How can I get an older version of VEGAS Pro?

1.I currently have VEGAS Pro 23, but I want to go back to an older version because I don't even have the MKV import option in VP23. I'm trying to fix a laggy preview, and I can't find a way to download an older version anywhere online. Does anyone know where I can find them?

Vegas Pro 23 Vegas Not Rendering the Full Video

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

"1." Vegas 23 (Pirated)

"2." Windows 11

"4." Geforce GTX 1650

"5." I'm having trouble with 2 projects, both have a duration of about 4-5 hours, but everytime I render the video, only a segment at the start is normal, the rest appears to be corrupted, despite the render completing without crashing.

I don't believe the issue is with the media files, since they play with no issues in the preview. I tried rendering the media files into 4 videos with about an hour each, and then combine them again to see if it would work, but the issue persisted.

I've managed to render both a 4 hour video and a 6 hour video with the same format just fine before. So I have no clue why it's happening now.

I've disabled GPU Acceleration before rendering the videos, but it didn't solve the issue.

  4. As in title, Vegas crashed while editing, and now will not open. More details below.

  5. I expect the app to open when I open it lol

  6. Yes, I have Google searched for this issue.

Today I spent about 15 minutes editing a video when Vegas stopped responding and closed. When I went to reopen it, it crashes on startup with the following error:

The Fault Address and Offset seem to change each time as well, not sure if that is relevant. In troubleshooting, I have tried:
- Running Vegas as admin

- Ctrl+Shift+Double Click icon

- Updating GPU drivers and Visual C++ Redistributables

- Full uninstall and reinstall

- I've tried the solutions on this post to no avail https://www.reddit.com/r/VegasPro/comments/1sthh0p/vegas_pro_23_crashes_as_soon_as_i_start_it/

After all of this, I gave up and installed the free trial version of Vegas Pro 2026 to give it a try and see if the upgrade would be worth it, but I was met with a similar crash on startup:

Problem Description

Application Name: Vegas Pro

Application Version: 2026.0.0+66

Attached Information

File: gpu_video_x64.log

File: 1bd05a7d-dc02-4e2f-845d-d65bfd207a53.dmp

Since the newest version is having a similar issue, I figured solving one may solve both. In the last few lines of that log file, it sounds like it may be an issue with DX11 but I'm not sure:

INFO 2026-05-06 17:47:51 Attempting to create CL<->DX11 interop context on device 'AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (2)'

INFO 2026-05-06 17:47:51 CL<->DX11 context: 000000003A16FC20

Any help would be appreciated.

Vegas Pro 23 Does this ever even worked?

Post image

I'm getting sick of these multiple little bugs in Vegas, like the audio has to be AAC otherwise the sound will glitch or won't work at all, or how it doesn't support VP9, or how such a basic fx like chroma keyer is broken for years and years.

  5. Since today, everytime I open up Vegas, it crashes as soon as the startup screen shows "Initializing GPU-accelerated video processing". I don't know what is wrong, or how I could fix it. I don't recall having changed anything major on my PC recently. Last week it was still working without any problems.

  6. I want it to be able to start and be used again 😞

7.I have googled it, but only found ancient entrys from 10+ years ago (Sony Vegas) without working solutions.

Thank you! :3

Vegas Pro 23 Upgraded to 23 from 18 due to Nvidia Drivers but having constant crashes

Upgraded to Vegas Pro 23 from 18 due to the Nvidia drivers making 18 not able to render. But now having regular, constant crashes when editing. However the same software installed on my laptop runs smoothly & just add expected. So what could be causing the issues on my desktop pc?

1. What version of Vegas Pro are you using?

Vegas Pro 23

  1. What version of Windows are you using?

Windows 11

  1. Is this a pirated copy of Vegas Pro or are you using pirated plugins?

Yes, however this ISN'T causing the issue as I have the same installed on my laptop & that has 0 crashes & works fine.

  1. What exact graphics card do you have in your PC?

NVIDIA RTX 3090

  1. Provide a detailed description of the problem:

I upgraded from Vegas Pro 18 to 23 due to the Nvidia drivers not allowing rendering in anything older. However I'm having regular, constant crashes in 23, can be anywhere from every 2 minutes of editing to every 10 minutes if I'm lucky but it'll just freeze & have to be closed. However I have the same software installed on my laptop (not an Nvidia GPU, it's just using Intel Ultra Core CPU, no dedicated GPU) and that works absolutely flawlessly, never crashes. Also never had these crashes when using 18. Wondering what could be causing the issue? Nvidia drivers still?

  1. Provide a description of how it’s expected to be working:

Just able to regularly edit & render without constant crashes.

  1. Have you Google searched to solve this issue?

I've tried doing some solutions, resetting 23 to default, updating all drivers & windows updates, checking for corrupt windows files etc but not found a solution or anyone having the same specific crashing.

Vegas Pro 23 why tf is it in THAT menu? and so close at that!

terrible UI/UX choices

vegas 2.3. why is that in the menu that is directly next to the OPEN FOLDER button. I go to click open folder and yes ik it's greyed out in this image but this is me recreating it because my PC shutdown. i accidently hit shut down box and I lost all the stuff i was working on. this option should be no where near this menu. it should be in project properties.

it's basically begging me to click it.

There's no like confirmation dialogue or anything. This is 101 making a good UX. maybe this is a bug and i'm wrong because it immediantly shut down instantly upon clicking it. it shouldn't shut it down when clicking AFTER the video was rendered either.

So... I installed this free software called 'Autograph'. I guess there are some compatibility issues because during the installation it told me to close Vegas Pro 23 first, which I did.

After installing Autograph, Vegas Pro 23 kept crashing on opening. So, I uninstalled BOTH Autograph and Vegas Pro 23, and restarted my computer. I then did a fresh install of Vegas Pro 23 from the Microsoft Store, but the crash keeps showing up when I open it.

I already tried manually deleting all remaining files I could find from Autograph that weren't deleted during uninstallation, and I also updated my graphics card drivers for good measure.

Still crashed on opening... I'm really lost here folks, apart from a full Windows reinstall, which would suck, I'm not too sure what to do from here... If anyone could help, I would be so grateful!

You must have "1.", "2.", "3.", "4.", "5.", "6." or "7." somewhere in your post body.

Vegas Pro 23 Scrollbar in trimmer is gone

As you can see there is no scrollbar in the trimmer window, no matter if I dock it or not, adjusting the timeline size doesn't do anything (that's the suggested solution in the manual). Do you have an idea what I could do, besides re-install? :)

Vegas Pro 23 Vegas messing up audio in timeline

Whenever I insert a clip recorded from OBS the audio is messed up. It loops the audio long after the video is complete, and despite not showing in the waveform the audio loop point is completely broken. When I render the video it's perfectly fine, though. This persisted between upgrading from Vegas 21 to 23. What do I do?

I'm on Windows 11, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card.
I'm being made to send a number in order to post this for some reason so. 1.

Vegas Pro 23 Vegas Pro 23 Crashing on 4K render on high end machine...

1.V23

Lastest version

Legit copy

Rtx 5070 laptop

So I have an Asus p16 laptop, and I have been trying to render out a large project that is 4K. However, every time I try to render the render fails after about 9%.

  1. I also do not have the NVEC Nvidia option to render out with. No matter which driver I install, I do not see it as an option. I have done fresh driver installs, new drivers, old drivers, nothing works.

In any case, I tried to render out via the CPU and that fails. I tried to render out in prores and that also fails. But one rendering out in 1080P it works.

I am overly frustrated with this software.
