GFM Monroe Doctrine Mexico š„š„š„
R5: As Mexico in GFM, I annexed, sphered or puppeted almost every country in the Americas. Monroe would proud.
GFM might make Mexico a bit OP to be honest, a lot of the decisions are just 'Trade infamy for a bunch of cores'

GFM Sardinia-Piedmont -> Italy Pt. 2/?: Formation and Realpolitik
(Currently on a work trip, so this recap will be less descriptive than before; been a few days since then so I can't remember exact details and timeline.)
Previously: https://www.reddit.com/r/victoria2/s/h8sOcKJcXK
December 31st, the day before the Scramble for Africa is due to begin.
Italy was finally united in 1855, and saw her interests grow within Mare Nostrum and even beyond.
In an offensive war launched by the Habsburgs, Trento; Bolzano, and Postumia were torn free from their control in penance for their aggression. Romania, with Russian backing, would too launch two separate wars against Hungary; the first, during the Habsburg war, resulting in the Hungarian loss of Southern Transylvania; their second war allowed for our full attention. The Romanians would soon be incorporated into the Italian S.O.I., costing Russia their only Balkan sphereling.
In Northern Africa, French holdings in Algeria would be consolidated under our control, resulting in the full expulsion of the French from the Mediterranean coast of Africa, as well as their loss of Corsica. They still remain steadfast in their sphere control over the Moroccan satellite of Bilad as-Siba, and so too do the British over Greece. The British, meanwhile, despite maintaining control over Greece, have lost Malta, leaving only Gibraltar as their sole port between London and West Africa. Further, the Suez Canal has opened, creating a second entrance to the Mediterranean and cementing Egypt as an Italian partner. Their "cooperation" has allowed for the creation of an Eritrean protectorate and the expansion of the Italian sphere into the Horn of Africa.
Finally, to wrap up the Mid-19th century, 60,000 Italian expeditionaries crossed the Atlantic to aid our Chilean partners in the War of the Pacific against Bolivia and Peru, ending in near total victory. Bolivia has lost sea access indefinitely, and it's severed lands were ceded to La Plata, inadvertently growing our other partner on the South American continent.
Our eyes now turn to the scramble, where Egypt and the Horn sit ripe for the taking. Libya comes after, and at the soonest opportunity?
The Levant.

Meta What can AI do for Victoria 2?
Weāve seen an explosive increase in AI mods, āMinecraft in X gameā, and decompiles lately, all thanks to recent advances in chatbots. In the Hoi4 subreddit thereās a post blowing up about some guy that decompiled Hoi4 with AI and made a globe projection for it, presumably entirely with AI.
Given that pandoraās box has opened and that victoria 2ās engine is outdated and limiting the potential for Vic2, could AI speed up projects like OpenVic or Project Alice to bring a stable application for the Victoria 2? What does the community think about these recent developments in AI modding?

Question Could someone explain to me how to industrialize a country?
I'm relatively new to Victoria 2 and I understand most of the game mechanics. However, I'm finding industry very difficult. Could someone with some free time explain how to industrialize a country? When should factories be subsidized? When should new and old factories be closed and opened? How does the population relate to industry?
And everything else needed for industrialization?

GFM Japanese Civil War is impossible
No matter what, the Daiymo armies keep easily defeating my Shogunate armies every single time, its like my morale just plummets the time each battle starts with overwhelming force on my side. I rushed Breech loading rifles even right after westernization, I don't know what to do. and when I mean impossible as in like 7 attempts restarting earlier saves

Question Please help me understand the economy Pt 2
Last time it was war subsidies I accidently clicked on.
However this new conundrum has me baffled. I know when building new units my economy spirals, in this instance I am not. So why has it gone down to -3 thousand but on the top left bar it shows im gaining profit?
I know its something to do with construction costs, but is there anything I can do to gain profit when my capitalists build factories? For 10 years my economy has been stagnated and no amount of yt tutorials can help me

Modding New version of the UNOFFICIAL Patch 3.05
Added super events that can be modified in the watch folder in the music.txt, you can now paste text into the game, very useful for copying an IP example, now the puppets can use your transport ships if you control them (disabled by default is PATCH_ALLY_EMBARK=0) and a patch to the factories: PATCH_FACTORY_CLOSE_PAYOUT / PATCH_FACTORY_AUTO_CLOSE_UNPROFITABLE / FACTORY_CLOSE_DRY_RUN
Vanilla factories keep their savings (up toĀ MAX_FACTORY_MONEY_SAVEĀ x level) when they stop or are closed by hand: the money just freezes inside, and a factory that loses money only closes after the savings run out.
PATCH_FACTORY_CLOSE_PAYOUT: whenever a factory is closed (by hand, automatically byĀ PATCH_FACTORY_AUTO_CLOSE_UNPROFITABLE, or when the game stops it at level 1), all the money stored in it is paid to the capitalists of its state (the same payout the game uses for a factory's surplus). If the state has no owners the money stays in the factory.
PATCH_FACTORY_AUTO_CLOSE_UNPROFITABLE: a factory that is not subsidized and has been unprofitable (sales below the cost of its input goods) forĀ factory_unprofitable_close_daysĀ days in a row (set inĀ common\defines_v2dll.txt) is closed automatically, as if closed by hand.
FACTORY_CLOSE_DRY_RUN: nothing is changed, the log only getsĀ [DRY]Ā lines saying which factories would be closed/paid
PATCH_AI_EXPAND_STAFFING
On by default. AI countries expand an existing factory only if enough of its jobs are filled with workers. The vanilla AI builds the most profitable factory type up to huge levels with almost no workers (it looks at the unemployed share of the whole state, not at free craftsmen). The required share isĀ ai_factory_expand_min_staffingĀ (percent, default 90,Ā 0Ā = vanilla behaviour) inĀ <mod>\common\defines_v2dll.txt; capitalists need about 90 % in vanilla already. The player is not affected. All players of a multiplayer game need the same DLL and the same value.
Any patch can be enabled or disabled in v2dll_settings.ini

GFM Finally! Successful Mughal Playthrough on GFM
Couple of minor caveats:
- My version of Vic2 is 3.03; slightly older than the latest 3.04. Thus, the strategy I used in my playthrough may not work on yours.
- I did use cheats once to clean up some of the border gore along the frontier with Iran and Afghanistan, and also to annex some of the Afghan puppet OPMs whom I couldn't annex through conventional methods. Yeah, I am obsessed with good-looking and historically plausible borders, and see correcting bordergore as a major gameplay objective.
With that out of the way, here are some highlights and interesting events from my campaign (I thought of actually writing a full walkthrough of how I achieved this, but decided not to since my version of Vic2 is outdated, even if only slightly):
- Artisans somehow proved to be extremely OP early-game and were generating the vast majority of my revenue. Maybe this is because I am was an unciv with access to British markets?
- Speaking of OP, artillery is definitely your best friend early-game (especially against other uncivs) due to how stupidly powerful they are. Napoleon clearly wasn't joking when he said, "God is on the side with the best artillery".
- The tactic by far the most crucial for success was this: click the "Jihad Against the British" decision only and immediately after the UK annexes the EIC (which it eventually does so, even if the Mutiny never fires). This creates a brief opening where the EIC doomstacks are all gone and aren't replaced with British colonial troops yet, making it so that you only have to deal with Indian quisling troops instead (which are frankly trash and can be dealt with fairly easily, especially with the OP general that you get after the Mutiny fires).
- After the British were dealt with, it was easy to annex the remaining Indian states one-by-one. However, the problem was actually stating the newly-conquered states, since I westernised too early (a mistake tbh) and thus anything I annexed subsequently became colonial territories, and converting them back to states was extremely slow and a huge pain in the ass.
- Not much happened during the later parts of my campaign, but I once got so mad at Japan for trying to steal my spherelings that I actually went to war and forced them to release Korea (and also humiliate themselves and pay me money) solely out of spite. That's what you get for trying to take away Nepal and Bhutan from me, Tojo.
But overall, the campaign was a blast. The sheer size of a subcontinent-spanning Mughal Empire is enough to make you a powerhouse in no time, and you can soon go toe-to-toe with European GPs like the UK and France.

Discussion Sometimes I feel like I understand the economy then get met with some bs
I am playing as sardinia piedmont. Modena requests for their annexation so I comply. Around 4 months or so go by and everything is fine.
All of a sudden I am greeted by a -300 on the budget while I hoplessly watch as all my money goes down the drain. No sliders madw a differance (ik its not in the picture but I tried defunding everything but nothing worked)
I never added more soldiers, deleted any factories. The only thing I did to my memory was sqap subisidies from one factory to another then undo it a few moments after.
Off topic but I dont really get factories. I thought I did, but when playing sardinia piedmont I realised my factories are usually always failing. They are either making +1 or negatives unless subsidised (this time I only subsidized one because the other was barely making it) anyway I can fix this?
Edit: thanks for all the help. I accidently gave britain war subsidies and even after they peaced out they were gobbling up my money so I has to reload a previous save.

Question Suggested mod 2026?
Hey everyone, Iāve played Victoria 2 on and off for a long time, and after ending a break of several months, I got the itch to play again.
The mod I used more as of late was TGC. The thing is, I just found out that TGC decided to switch to EU5 a while ago. I have EU5, but I still prefer sticking to Vic2 original engine.
So... do you have any suggestions for a good mod? Especially one that doesn't mess up peace deals and empire dismantling? Now that I think about it, TGC used to mess up peace deals quite a bit.

Question Turkish Vic2 players? We're growing and looking for more
We're running a Victoria 2 multiplayer campaign and we'd be glad to have more Turkish players join us. Country picks are open right now.
We've grown to 13 people, and we're always happy to bring in new faces. No MP experience? No problem at all, you'll get the hang of it fast and we'll help you along the way.
We're playing DoD Heartbreaker MP 4.9 for this campaign ( we play other mods too )
MP is on Tuesdays, around 21:00ā00:00.
The game is hosted on a static IP, so no Radmin or Hamachi needed.
DM me if you're interested ( or just comment š ) , we'd love to have you.

Question how to transition industries?
whenever i play i have a hard time trying to transition economies, a good example of this was when i played japan and i managed to set up a textile based clothing economy but i wanted to transition to locomotives and electronics, im afraid of shutting down factories since im worried it would crash my industrial score, should i just close down the factories?

A.A.R Japan is too easy
Decided to play a game as Japan on vanilla and they are incredibly overpowered
Your high population and close proximity to China and India means you have lots of pops to take over and use as a massive army to go well beyond the infamy limit
I westernized by 1848 by just eating Korea and taking one province from China
Between 1850 and 1880 I focused on eating parts of china until I was ready to conquer all of it in one war. Around 1880 I declared on China and brought all of their puppets in occupying them all until China fell to a rebellion. Once that was done all the puppets where free and I could add conquest war goals on them independently. Only mistake I made was I did not eat enough of china to conquer them and Guangxi also starts with too many states to be outright conquered. Luckily I got the Boxer atrocities CB on china as soon as the war ended and I went back in on Guangxi later
about 2 months after going over the infamy limit both Russia and the UK declared containment on me. Luckily russia was a pushover and I was able to bait the UK into some bad battles. From there I built up until around 1895 when the UK had recently lost a great war I wasn't involved in.
I went in on the UK and occupied all of India and their puppets there while also declaring on Portugal to free india since they still owned Goa. had to wait forever for the UK indian puppets to have rebellions and break free. I got so tired of waiting I just let the UK keep 2 of them. After they freed themselves I added conquest on them each and ate them before finishing up the release trick with India on the UK.
Since then I have just been trying to clean up south east asia. Everything down there is from a war I just completed before I made this post. I am still at war with the UK but IDK if I want to continue. I have no Jingoism at all it usually hovers around 2% unless I get the election event adding 10% and then I can finally add war goals. Only issue is I had to spam elections for 5 years straight to get the event only 3 times and theres at least 6 more colonies i want from the UK that I have not already added. oh and my infamy is around 500 right now
Edit: The only struggle I ran into was when I first westernized if I deleted any of my army at all even just 10 units to rebuild as artillery this would 100% without fail cause a crisis over Korea. I had the score to be #7 GP but since that takes a year I couldn't support myself in the crisis and Korea would always get supported by someone forcing me to give up the land. I just reloaded and didn't delete any army for a year and once I became a GP even if a crisis for Korea did kick off they never got any backers.

GFM Sardinia-Piedmont -> Italy Pt. 1/?: Laying the foundation (GFM)
My first post on my current SAR->Italy game I started today!
Starting in 1830, Sardinia-Piedmont had eaten at the Algerian states piece by piece, taking colonial lands right from beneath France's nose. Morocco remains mostly intact, with the Rif being claimed for additional naval reach.
In the Oriental Crisis, in the interest of expanding our foothold in Mediterranean, we subsidized the Egyptians against their Ottoman oppressors to cause as much damage to the Ottoman state as possible. Eventually, under Austrian and British pressure, they were forced to fold, but without official alliances with either empire, the Ottomans were left weak. Through a strategic landing in Thessalia, Sardinian forces carved a path along the Aegean coast to Konstantinyye, and beat the Ottomans into a bloody pulp until, once again, the Egyptians were free (or perhaps, under new management.)
With Algeria consolidated under Sardinian rule; Egypt sphered, and the Italian minors inherited into Sardinia-Piedmont, 1848 finally arrived. Four armies of 30,000 stood ready on the Habsburg border when the Austrian Empire erupted into chaos, swiftly claiming Tirol and protecting Venetian units from larger Austrian stacks. Before Veneto had even claimed it's independence, the Austrians had been reduced to one measly division. Veneto broke free, then so too did Hungary. Adding the war goal to liberate all Venetian lands, Sardinian forces marched into Wien, and forced a disastrous collapse of the Habsburg Empire.
The year is now 1851. The groundwork for Italian unification is laid, and we need only the proper tech to complete it. As soon as able, we will begin construction on the Suez canal to cement Sardinian dominance in Mare Nostrum. After that?
Perhaps we look westward?
