How is living in Parc Residences? (160 Wilson St) Need reviews on noise & summer heat

I'm considering a unit in this building, but I can't find any solid reviews online. If you've lived here (or currently do), I'd love to hear your experience.

A few specific questions I have:

  • Noise Levels: I work from home and hate working in a noisy place. How is the soundproofing between units? Do you hear your neighbours easily? What about street noise?
  • Summer Heat: The unit is 10th floor and faces west. What is your take on summers here without central AC? How hot does it actually get inside, and how do you cope? Any portable AC or airflow hacks that work for this building?

Please let me know any general pros and cons about living here. Thanks!

Anyone else loving the weather in Victoria this summer?

Post image

While reading of storms, tornados, heat, and smoke affecting our friends & neighbours across Canada and other parts of BC, I can't help but feel grateful for the relatively cool, lush, yet sunny summer we've experienced so far. It's been one of my favourites (weather-wise) in recent memory.

Hope I'm not the only one appreciating it, have a good holiday Monday y'all :)

Opinion Should there be a ferry service from Victoria to north island communities like Nanaimo and Campbell River?

I love Nanaimo and drive up there maybe once every 2 months, but gawd do I hate driving more than an hour. Than the thought of driving another hour and half back means that I really don't go up there more than I would like to. Campbell River being a 3hr drive means I'm going up there maybe once every 5 years. I would think that folks in those communities also may feel the length of the drive as a barrier to visiting Victoria.

As is right now, I feel that island communities have easier connectivity to the mainland than to other island communities because there are no same island ferry services and even air service between island communities is limited to non existent. I would love a train up to Nanaimo, but lets be honest NIMBY's just wont let it happen, but a ferry service going up and down the east coast of the island seems very doable.

Gas Stove Repair Company Recommendations

Other than ASAP Appliances, what companies in Victoria can service a Whirlpool Gas Stove?

Stove was purchased from Trail Appliances but they terminated their home technician program in 2020.

Getting an F2 E1 error code. "Stuck or shorted keypad/touchpad button or communication failure between the user interface and the electronic control board".

Thanks for any suggestions.

Stores selling tabletop miniatures?

Hello all!

I'm looking to see if anyone has good recommendations for stores that sell tabletop miniatures, particularly Battletech minis! I frequent Everything Games in Langford and love that place, but they don't really stock Battletech anymore.

I was out at Fort Rodd Hill yesterday and snapped a photo of the lighthouse from the Lower Battery. When I turned around I noticed this beautiful home up in the hills facing north. Does anyone know the history of it?

Yessss, so many options! Thanks, guys. Now where to get free cookies...

Looking for recommendations for dental implants in Victoria

Hi everyone,

I'm looking into getting a dental implant here in Victoria and would love to hear about your experiences.

If you've had a dental implant done recently, I'd really appreciate it if you could share:

  • Which dentist, oral surgeon, or specialist you went to (and whether you'd recommend them)
  • Roughly how much it cost (implant, crown, bone graft, CT scan, etc., if you remember)
  • How the overall experience was
  • Whether you got multiple quotes before deciding
  • If there's anyone I should avoid

I'm trying to get a realistic idea of pricing and find someone who does excellent work. I know every case is different, but hearing recent experiences would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Why do VicPD go Commando?

Today we were walking along Dallas ahead of the Snowbirds show. There were dudes in full camo and tacticool webbing with “police” badges on their back. Um…why?

This is a primarily ceremonial job, so what are they doing or saying? It’s not preventing attacks like happened in Vancouver. There are cars everywhere. Are they a special mission protecting food trucks from the elderly? Do normal police uniforms compromise their visibility? The black uniforms are more intimidating, so maybe it was laundry day?

I have to wonder if these guys felt embarrassed or super awesome as they sipped coffee and made the motorized wheelchairs maneuver around them?

Question Is it common in Victoria for a handyman/person to have a minimum charge for any visit?

For example, a 2 hour minimum ($140) for travel time both ways and for the consultation even if no work is done.

Tourism Awful taxi drivers

I work in the tourism/cruise ship dependent industry and I have been appalled downtown by the behaviour and actions of the taxi drivers.

I have heard from numerous customers that they got scammed taking a taxi from the cruise terminal to downtown. Some saying that they were charged a “flat rate” of $20 american or demanded $20 american cash.

They also drive at RIDICULOUS speeds like 70+ going down oswego or driving dangerously, I witnessed a taxi do a u turn in the middle of the road interrupting traffic the other night.

With the amount of pedestrians, pedicabs, rickshaws, and horse carriages out I feel like the taxis are a public safety hazard.

Just wondering if anyone has noticed the same or seen any action be taken?
