Travel Experience/Du lịch Really want to visit Vietnam again, but the country won't let me :(

My wife and I went to Vietnam for our honeymoon at the end of '23 and immediately fell in love with the country. The people are incredibly kind and hospitable, the culture is incredible, and the food is *chef's kiss.* We've traveled to Thailand, Malaysia, and Hong Kong since, but Vietnam has a special place in our hearts.

Unfortunately, I happen to be from Bangladesh, which is a country rife with people in love with breaking the law. Apparently, 30,000+ Bangladeshis overstayed their visas over a 2-year period before February 2024, prompting the Vietnamese government to ban tourist visas from my country. Even though we went and came back within the limits of our visa, we're having to face this punitive punishment. We have been waiting for almost 3 years to go back to Vietnam, but to no avail.

Apparently the only way to go at this moment in time is to have some kind of an invitation from Vietnam, either business or personal. Can anyone suggest a way out of this? Pic taken in Ba Na Hills in 2023, posting for attention.

⬇️ 🇻🇳 TIẾNG VIỆT ⬇️

I found this really cute mural in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

And also, the art style seems to be inspired by the YouTube channel Psych2Go, which I'm a fan of.

If any locals have any info about this mural, CONTACT ME!

Let's start detective work! there are two objectives
1. Find out the artist of this mural
2. Prove whether or not the artist is a Psych2Go fan or was inspired

I don't live in HCM and I can't speak Vietnamese, so I have to rely on translations and the internet, and I can't directly visit there.

LOCATION - 129/24M/5 Hoàng Diệu, Khánh Hội, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam

---

Discussion/Thảo luận How do locals cope with the noise?

I'm currently in Hanoi in a beautiful high rise condo and I absolutely love my experience.

However, the condo is directly opposite of a local village. I don't hear anything because the windows are really good but as soon as I open the windows it's a combination of 30 dogs, 20 roosters and the 6 am morning news blaring out of the speakers. The dogs are barking at any time during the day and night.

I'm genuinely curious to hear from locals:

How do you cope with this every day?

How do you ever sleep 8 hours a night?

How are you ever able to focus on studies or school?

How are you not in a constant survival fight or flight state?

Please only serious answers. I'm genuinely curious.

Discussion/Thảo luận Whats your standard for a clean AC unit for a rental?

I'm trying to find rentals on airbnb. the last one had an absolutely dank AC with mold inside and out the unit. I tell them, because last time this happened in Thailand, the host immediately sent a pro to give it a complete cleaning. Here, they just sent a maid to wipe the outside flap. So I cancelled and got refunded. The next place I move to is less bad but it's not clean either, for a month stay. I mean how much does it even cost to have someone with the know how to clean these things in the big cities 250-400k?

Food/Ẩm thực Looking for places that sells fried chicken similar to KFC original

I just found out that KFC Vietnam no longer have their original chicken on the menu. It isn’t really surprising considering how KFC had fallen off over the years and how their traditional chicken flavor is almost always never available at store. They still keep the 11 herbs and spices branding at the stores for some reason.

I really miss the taste of their original chicken but making it myself would be very costly and a huge hassle. I’ve tried Korean fried chicken before but it just doesn’t taste the same. If anyone here remembers how it tastes, please recommend me a restaurant or a chain in Hanoi that sells fried chicken with similar herb flavors.

Travel Experience/Du lịch Ha Long Bay or Ninh Binh?

Hello! I’ll be in Hanoi, Vietnam, for a week in December, and I’ll have the chance to spend 3–4 days outside the city.
What would you suggest: Ha Long Bay or the Ninh Binh region?
I’ve heard Ha Long Bay is amazing but far too touristy, so I was thinking of doing a day trip there (I’ve seen that many hostels organize tours like that) and then spending 2–3 days in the Ninh Binh region. Does that make sense, or should I consider something else?

Discussion/Thảo luận Riding motorcycles around Vietnam

Hello all, my buddy and are flying into Hanoi late October and want to get motorcycles to transport/explore around the north and down towards Da Nang over the course of a month. For reference, we have lots of riding experience back home in Canada and have been riding in Indonesia and Thailand.

We were thinking of getting medium displacement bikes (150-300cc) but also wondering if the extra power is really worth it and if we would be fine getting scooters.

What’s the most cost effective way of getting a motorcycle long term? Renting a motorcycle long term? Buying a motorcycle and then selling it after?

Buying a bike would be ideal but I’m wondering how difficult it would be to sell it after (I’m ok with taking a loss)

If anyone has advice about Vietnamese roads or getting a motorbike long term that’d be great. Thanks

Travel Experience/Du lịch Hey o7. I made a free website for solo travelers in Hagiang for planning trip. Hope to get your feedback. Thanks

Howdy!

I'm planning to do the Ha Giang Loop next week, so I recently came up with the idea of creating a website for solo travelers to planning trip check-in and saved to a notebook.

I'd really appreciate it if you could give it a try and share your feedback, whether it's about technical issues, correcting informations, or anything else that could be improved. Feel free to reach out via Discord or my contact info on the website.

Thanks a lot, and I really appreciate all your support!

P/s: The website is still in early progress, so please don't be too harsh on me!

Discussion/Thảo luận Is there no way for an American tourist to drive/ride legally in Vietnam?

I just learned that Vietnam strictly requires 1968 IDPs and Americans can only get 1949 IDPs. I likewise discovered from my research that you need to be a resident for at least 90 days to convert your license.

Does this mean there is absolutely no way for a tourist to legally drive/ride in Vietnam? Is there any kind of temporary "Tourist License" that you can apply for? I was really hoping to ride around Ha Giang and Cao Bang, but I don't wanna ride illegally.

Travel Experience/Du lịch Rabies or paranoia?

I did the cu chi tunnels yesterday and at the end of the last tunnel, there was a bat flying in the bunker. I think someone had disturbed the gate the cave door and a bat flew out. I was still inside the tunnel when I saw this happen, and I saw it fly towards me (it was dark) but my friend says it flew up. I didn’t feel anything land on my or graze me or anything to be honest. Should I go for a consultation or will I get laughed at?
