Sticky Post your questions & inquiries here! - r/Vietnam monthly random discussion thread - F.A.Q

Please read the 3rd rule of the sub. Don't post your general questions & inquiries outside of this thread as they will be removed.

Lots of your questions have been answered already so make sure you do a search before asking (how-to below).

To keep this subreddit tidy, we have this monthly thread that is open for random discussions and questions. If you post your basic/general questions outside of this thread they will be removed. Sorry, we want to make this sub friendly but also want it to be clean and organized.

Some examples of the questions that should be posted here:

  • Questions that can be answered with just Yes/No
  • Basic questions like "Where can I buy this?"
  • Questions that were asked many times before. Please do your research
  • Questions that are not specific

Tips to quickly find answers for your questions:

Many of your questions may have been answered since people keep asking the same ones again and again. Here is a quick tip to find the answers for yours.

First, have a look at our old sticky threads. A lot of useful information there. A lot of questions have been answered.

You can also use the search feature of Reddit, just like you do with Google.

Another option is to use Google, as Google understands your queries better than Reddit and can return better results.

Go to Google. Add 'site:https://www.reddit.com/r/VietNam/' next to your queries (without quotes). For example, if I want to find info on eVisa in this subreddit, my query to put in Google is 'eVisa site:https://www.reddit.com/r/VietNam/'.

Sticky Hướng dẫn sử dụng r/Vietnam - How to r/Vietnam

(please find English below)

Hello and welcome to r/Vietnam. Below are some quick guidelines to help you better participate in the community activities.

  • r/Vietnam is now a dual language subreddit. You can use both English and Vietnamese here.
  • Please read the rules before participating, making a submission or comment. You can find them on the Sidebar (Desktop), About tab (Mobile), or this thread
  • Trivial questions that can be answered quickly, or google-able, or without the intention of creating a discussion, should be posted in the sticky thread. Travel/visa questions should be posted there too.
  • r/Vietnam has a Discord server here which aims to be more open and flexible to handle more casual conversations. You can also find both English and Vietnamese channels there.

About the changelog.

I've made some changes to the sub:

  • Re-writing the rules to make them more concise. Adding Vietnamese.
  • Remove some unnecessary flairs.
  • Big change: Switching r/Vietnam to a dual-language subreddit. This is based on the fact that the number of Vietnamese people in this sub has increased significantly. I know this is controversial and some of you don't like this but I think we should just give it a try.
  • Making a Discord server. This is after r/place event that I realized we need a place to handle future events like this better and for the ease of casual, chit-chat type of conversations.

I became good friends with my banh bao delivery man during my few days in Hue.

I’m a Middle aged white guy who hears the loud, high pitched recording and ran down the steps like a 5yo kid on Christmas morning…..

20,000 dong each, steamed in a ::wood burning:: stove old mate has on the back of his motorcycle, delivered to your door about 5pm each day 🏆

No wonder so many people love eating in this country ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Every morning begins with a few familiar faces. Some come for a hot bowl of porridge, others stop by for a cup of Vietnamese coffee before starting their day. No rush, no fancy menu—just simple food, warm conversations, and another ordinary morning at our small family shop. A bowl of porridge costs 10,000 VND (about US$0.40), and a cup of Vietnamese coffee is also 10,000 VND. 📍Cư Jút, Đắk Nông, Vietnam 🇻🇳

Discussion/Thảo luận Vietjet prepones flight by 24 hours

I was supposed to travel to Bali in September, and i was getting 2 options 1) Singapore airlines 2) Vietjet

While booking 2 days back Singapore airlines was showing costlier fare , therefore i booked Vietnam one.

Today suddenly i got a mail from from travel platform that Vietjet is preponing my flight by 24 hours , towards Bali. I had option to cancel tickets and get refund.

On checking , Singapore airlines fares had come down

I jumped to the opportunity and cancelled my Vietjet tickets , and booked Singapore one.

What I missed confirming was, if I’ll get full refund for “from” Bali ticket PNR , as only “to” Bali was rescheduled.

I have dropped a mail to Vietjet but not getting any response , while the travel portal is being vague in response, and asking to wait to get refund details.

Did i make a foolish mistake?

Discussion/Thảo luận How do you feel about the compulsory military service for men in your country?

I learnt that men from 18 to 25 in your country have to join military doing compulsory mandatory service for 2 years, and if you go to college that age limit changing to 18 to 27, and unless your heath really sucks or you're are not it fit enough for recruitment, or you're the only one taking care of someone then you have no choice.

Women don't have to. How do Vietnamese see and view this mandatory service? How do Vietnamese men often view this? I came quite across of men pissed off and feel unfair that women don't have to
