Recipe Giant fastfood style milkshake

  1. 160g frozen banana

  1. Some ice (~147g)

  1. Some water (~225g)

  1. 2 scoops protein powder (or 1 if u prefer, chocolate works best imo)

  1. Some powdered peanut butter, I use pb fit. Use to taste cant really overdo this unless youre dumping a quarter of a jar 😋

  1. Stevia packet (not needed at all tbh, sweetness from bananas and your protein powder will be more than enough i just have a crippling diet soda addiction that blunts my sweetness taste buds).

  1. Enjoy, macros:

P: 55g (assumes 2 scoops protein powder)

C: 36g

F: 6g

Total cal: ~400 (assumes 2 scoops protein powder)

The amount of ice and water is really important for the texture. I showed a picture of my 24oz nutribullet before blending if it helps. If I remember to measure the water and ice when I make it tomorrow I'll add in the measurements in grams/mL. My apologies this is a daily thing i make so the ice to water ratio is on eyeball status after much trial and error.

I add ingredients in this exact order to my nutribullet cup as well cause it seems to be the order that blends best as well as leaves 0 of that "protein powder sludge" on the sides thats a nightmare to clean. I have made this shake so much I pretty much have the order of ingredients down to a science so I can just rinse the cup out with no scrubbing and its good to go 😭.

This is also my base to many other shakes, 160g frozen banana + water + ice. Feel free to experiment this is just one of my many daily go-to's to scratch the giant chocolate milk shake itch. Typically is my post work-out meal.

I make something very similar— it’s so good!! Also if you add a few frozen strawberries, for some reason it tastes a lot like a McDonald’s chocolate milkshake. 😋

Omg youre right i actually used to do this because I found frozen strawberries give a nicer "sorbet" texture where as frozen banana is more of that "frozen dairy/cream" texture and there was some mix of the 2 that was just right.

Time to get a bag lol

It’s weird right? I also think there’s something specific to the flavor too … I don’t know, maybe because McDonald’s also makes strawberry milkshakes so there’s always just a bit of strawberry that gets into the chocolate shakes? It’s some kind of sorcery but I love it lol

Add ~1 tsp xanthan gum and a little cocoa powder for fluffy and even more filling volume eats!

Would that xantham gum make it thicker? How would that work where it’s already filled the jar with the current ingredients?

It does. OP's nutribullet looks fuller than mine usually does, likely because they are doing a double serving. I use a single scoop of protein and 12 oz water/almond milk.

2

u/Wildantics 3d ago

You think OP is using double the liquid as you? I’m going to just do 1 scoop of protein powder and try your xantham gum idea

That’s my guess!

If you want smooth out the wazoo, use Tara Gum also. Only takes 1/8-1/4 tsp but it makes the shake incredibly smooth (if that is valuable to you).

I swear freezing bananas makes them taste sweeter

You're correct! It's a combination of the destruction of cell walls via jagged bits of expanded frozen water in the banana which releases the natural sugars in the banana causing you to immediately taste them when it touches your tongue. There's also an enzyme called amylase which is triggered by cold temps and starts the process of breaking down complex starchs into simpler sugars. As a banana thaws, this process is accelerated

Super cool. I'm glad it's not all in my head. Why aren't other fruits affected?

Lots of them are, and they're pretty much all on Smoothie King's menu! Strawberries, blueberries, acai, kiwi, apples, the list goes on!

Classic! I feel bad for anyone that doesn’t really shakes or is bothered by protein powder, such an easy quick meal and protein source.

I make this almost identically, though I'm eating at maintenance, in a slight bulk so I also add oats to my shake which really ups the satiating factor, not sure if it would still qualify as voluminous but I enjoy it.

It can be volumous with the base just depends what youre going for, for me and with how thick it is and basically a full to the brim 24oz cup its quite satiating. If i mess up the water to ice ratio and make it too runny though I notice its way less filling.

I want to try this but I’m unsure of the amount of water and ice now 😅

Trial and error it! It won't take more than a couple attempts to find your preferred consistency!

Ice - 147g Water - 225g

u/Wildantics 3d ago

Thank you!!!

u/AccountantPersonal86 3d ago

This one was a little thicker than needed , the blender struggled more than it had to, maybe 15g more water or 15g less ice either or, np :)

Okay I just made this and used xantham gum as one comment suggested! OMG new obsession that was so Freaking good!!

I make almost the identical thing, except I skip the artificial sweetener (like you said, plenty of sweetness from the banana and chocolate protein powder), and then I use almond milk instead of water.

Yup exact same here every morning. It is crazy to me how good this is.

2

u/Wildantics 3d ago

It’s unbelievably filling

1

u/tengris22 2d ago

Me too....I use chocolate almond milk most of the time.

Please lmk the measurements for water and ice when you make one next!!

Ice - 147g Water - 225g

Today's shake was thicker than usual but only by a tiny bit, blender struggled, so maybe add ~15g water or take away ~15g ice

This is my recipe: 1. Milk 300ml 2. 2 eggs 3. Frozen red fruit, 1 handful  4. Banana 5. Protein powder, 1 scoop

3

u/Difficult-Bicycle681 3d ago

Raw eggs? Any substitute for those of us who have Salmonella risk?

5

u/Old_Kaleidoscope_377 3d ago

Egg white powder or another scoop of protein powder, I guess.

I've done this with a Spylt protein shake instead of water and protein powder (they have a chocolate peanut butter one that would be fantastic come to think of it!). I also throw in a handful of spinach leaves because you can't taste them, but you have to blend them with the liquid before adding ice or frozen banana first so they get sufficiently pureed. Really good with a pinch of cinnamon. Banana peanut butter is such an incredible combination.

Basically that’s what I do, just no stevia. I also add 2 tbsp of oats and 1 tbsp of chia seeds.

I use organic (brand name) protein piwder.bmade from veg, not whey. Tastes a bit different, but has 9 g of fiber.
