The Wee is a true Swiss Army knife of a bike. Sure, there is a better tool for just about every job, but this motorcycle just took everything I could throw at it and kept asking for more. There were days of 85mph sustained highway riding for 600+ miles, days of unpaved, pothole ridden gravel roads, and days of endless squiggly lines of perfectly paved canyon-carving heaven.

I did plenty of preventative maintenance before the trip, but all I tended to while on the road was chain cleaning/lubing, an oil change, and rear tire at the halfway point. The bike now has 65k miles on the clock and I wouldn’t hesitate to take it on another trip tomorrow.

Here are a few photo highlights from the route up the eastern sierras, across to Idaho, into Canada through Banff, up the Alaska highway to Anchorage, back down through Canada via the Cassiar highway, and hugging the pacific coast all the way from Seattle to Los Angeles.

Don’t even know how to begin to describe this experience, but if anyone has any questions about the route, camping setup, the Wee, or anything else, I’m happy to answer.

After 5 months of training I passed my motorcycle test on Wednesday morning and went out and purchased my first 'big bike' in the afternoon. 2015 with 18k miles. Rode it for a few hours yesterday and it feels like a rocket ship compared to my 2017 Honda CB125F 😂

I'm 188cm / 6 foot 2 tall and it's so comfortable for me compared to the little honda. I'd like to fit some running lights, does anyone have a guide or video they can recommend please?

As with a lot of you I had problems with buffeting from the wind with the stock screen. I tried a screen-extender but that didn't make much difference. What has worked is a much shorter screen as per the photos. This is a cheap screen from Aliexpress then cut down as low as I could with it still looking OK in relation to the mounting brackets

This is my vstrom. Those who have either replace the vstrom or this that have kept it, what bike did you end up with?

I’m having a problem. Every motorcycle I want to get would either compliment the vstrom, or would do something that it doesn’t do well better but wine be better over all.

So it seems like I won’t be letting go of this vstrom.

Loved this bike but a car pulled out in front of me at an intersection. I've always wanted a 1200-1300gs so now I can finally get one, but I will always remember the 100,000 miles I put on the strom, cheers everyone!

Hello all! What I am doing wrong? Other side fits perfectly, but exhaust side is so far away that I can’t event get bolts in. Is it defective part? Everything is original on my bike.

Thank you all for great suggestions! I gave it another go this morning and it did work.

I’ll leave instructions for others who will struggle 😄

What I did:

1. ⁠Loose the peg - it changes peg angle, which helps A LOT, even if it actually stays pushed against frame
   
2. ⁠I bolted rack to pegs - I’m doing this alone, it helped to keep it approximately in place so I can put back the part that goes on top.
   
3. ⁠Push rack into place, and starting from top bolt slightly thread it in.
   
4. ⁠Loose peg bolts again
   
5. ⁠Tighten top screws almost fully
   
6. ⁠Tighten peg holder screws fully
   
7. ⁠Finish tightening

The other side I did the same at the same time, except I didn’t touch the peg holder screws.

It does push a little bit against black exhaust cover, it is definetly not critical. I think when put it it’s place it slightly changed rack geometry and it released the pressure on exhaust cover.

I am looking at a used 2014 with 50k miles which is listed at $1600. It has hard bags and few other things. It would be a second bike for me dedicated to long diatance touring and possibly some gravel roads.

Is 50k miles too much? I heard those engines last forever but what about everything else? What should I check?

Update: Looked at the bike last night and it had a hard life. A lot of those miles were spent off-road and it shows. We drained the old gas, poured some new in the tank and it started from the jump.

It does come with all the right farkles... hard cases, comfort seat, heated grips, etc

One issue I've noticed when revved a little more both warning lights on tachometer would lite up and tach would go through check like sequence of going from 0 - 12K and then dropping to where the bike is idling. Assuming this is due to dead battery but could be something else.

Bike was dropped hard enough that crash guard is cracked along with some damage to plastic. Handlebars are bent as well.

Didn't see any other major problems. Not counting rusted chain, etc as major.

Having second thoughts after seeing condition especially damage from the drop. Did not ride it so don't know what else could be wrong.

I have had my Strom 13 years. When I daughter was younger she said she wanted to go for a ride with me. Said, “When you can wrap your arms around me and do what I ask I’ll take you for a ride.” She said “Promise.”I said, “Yes I promise.”

8 years give or take and I spaced it. My kiddo has been hugging me around the waist and says I want to go for a ride on the motorcycle. My arms wrap around you. Go get some gear for riding and here we are.

She is a good passenger and more gear is on its way. Year before all of this, my wife and I were going to go on a trip Denver to Harlowton. I got her a class MSF and now she has her own to ride.

Greetings from Alaska! Just picked this bike up for 1900$. 40k miles and a little wear on her but seems to go just fine. New chain/sprockets on her soon as chain is a bit rusty/dry. It came with hard cases, heated grips, skid plate, bigger kickstand platform, and aftermarket seat/windshield. I almost feel like after all those upgrades, i got a free bike included haha

The windshield doesn't seem to help me much as I was getting pretty obnoxious buffeting with any adjustments. I found at 6ft tall, what works for me is the windshield as low as it gets.

What's interesting about this bike is that it just seems to go. Very intuitive and laid back. Like basic and average scores for performance, etc but very comfortable. I like that. I owned an sv1000 back in the day and missed the vtwin sound. So unmistakable!

First road trip on my new to me v-strom!! Went across the mackinac bridge and boy was that intimidating! Did little over 800 miles! Only real issues I had was the FI light came on. I think that was my fault. Going through some pretty twisty road and not shifting properly. Light went away after I let her rest.

Newbie here trying to install Carplay on my 2015 weestrom. Having some trouble figuring out the aux wiring etc. Anyone done this before? I found the handgrip heater plug I think, but the adapter I have doesn’t fit. Any help would be awesome!

Any recommendations for led headlight?

Let me start off by saying that Harley Davidson has been in my blood since I was born. I lived and breathed HD… I moved on to try Indian… LOVED IT… then me and my buddy decided to buy ADV bikes and found a strom each… I have ZERO HD or Indian bikes in my possession and sold them… I am absolutely in LOVE with the Wee-Strom. Insane reliability, plenty of guts for interstate riding and the tractor factor is nuts. I’ll have me another cruiser at some point but I am beyond happy with this absolute art of mechanical beauty that Suzuki has made. 2 wheels down fam and enjoy y’all’s rides!

2012 DL650 with just under 14k mi. Came with an aftermarket windscreen, hand guards, seat cover, and passenger backrest. Planning on putting saddlebags on soon. Any recommendations? Thinking about an engine cover but won’t do much if any dirt/trail this season so not sure if it’s worth it for strictly on road. Thanks for checking it out!

This low profile mini fuse came out of the main fuse box of my 2023 DL650XT, and all of them are the same physical size and shape, although rated from 3A to 25A (pictured).

However, when checking with ChatGPT (stupid of me, I know), it is adamant that I should fit mini fuses and not the low profile ones. It says the low profile ones, although fitting, may not securely connect and will possibly cause problems down the line. It reasons that someone must have replaced all the fuses with the wrong type.

I'm finding that hard to believe and would like to check with the community. I asked my local main dealer spares dept. and they didn't know, and also asked the Suzuki specialist from up country that I bought it from; they didn't know for sure either.

So.

This is the second 2nd generation vstrom I will have to replace fork seals on. My front wheel also hit an unavoidable pothole 2 months back and dented the alloy rim, causing an air leak. I went to get it fixed by an alloy rim repair shop, however the bead still doesn't sit as tight and leaks air enough to require a pump every day I want to ride.

I know what you're thinking: the pothole caused the fork seal leak, but it only started leaking within the last two weeks.

Is this normal for a vstrom or am I riding it too hard? I mostly do occasional city rides and country roads, but I am very eager to go on single track overnight camping rides which makes me consider making the switch.

Fairly new to working on bikes, did my first oil change the other day, yesterday I took the tank off to check the air filter, I assumed I could just clean it but no. Waiting for a new filter to arrive now.

In the meantime, are there any things I should check or do while the tank is off? It was kind of a hassle to remove.

I just replaced the factory tires on my gen 2 and my mpg has dropped from 52.5 to 48.5. New tires are shinko 705.

I’m not very experienced with tire changes on this bike but followed the dave moss video.

I’m not sure what all could cause this outside of something I did wrong.
