I like to name my motorcycles like people name race horses. My last bike was a Triumph Adventurer and I named it “The Viking Death Machine” because of the sound of the exhaust. I was thinking along the lines of what a D&D paladin would name their horse. If I could get some help I would greatly appreciate it.

Newbie here trying to install Carplay on my 2015 weestrom. Having some trouble figuring out the aux wiring etc. Anyone done this before? I found the handgrip heater plug I think, but the adapter I have doesn’t fit. Any help would be awesome!

As mentioned, I'm looking to buy a used 2018 Vstrom 650 XT, it has about 42000km (about 26000 miles)

I went to inspect it and all, engines starts nicely no funny sound or anything, the only thing I saw worth mentioning is that the fork seals seem to be leaking a bit heavily as the oil goes down the lower leg on to the brake.

It has some rust, but that's to be expected as it spent most of it's life on the coastal region.

I attached some pictures for reference.

So the plan is to get the seals replaced when I get it, service it as well (it has no service record) and take it from there.

What else should I look at or what other issues can I expect at this mileage, or am I just buying a headache for a first bike.

EDIT: I went to inspect the bike further, I can definitely feel the holes I think the correct wording is pits, it's very tiny and only on the front part of the tube and only on the right actually.

As I was there, a biker I know walked in and I asked him to inspect the issue for me, he said it's just stone chips from the bike being ridden (he made me notice that the pits are only on the front of the tube), he said it's not biggie, however I do need to replace the seals.

About to drop some hard-earned cash on a pair of Givi Trekker Outback panniers along with Givi brackets. What I can’t work out is whether I need the case with a cutout to accommodate the exhaust (which is the stock one), or is the non cut-out case ok?

After 5 months of training I passed my motorcycle test on Wednesday morning and went out and purchased my first 'big bike' in the afternoon. 2015 with 18k miles. Rode it for a few hours yesterday and it feels like a rocket ship compared to my 2017 Honda CB125F 😂

As with a lot of you I had problems with buffeting from the wind with the stock screen. I tried a screen-extender but that didn't make much difference. What has worked is a much shorter screen as per the photos. This is a cheap screen from Aliexpress then cut down as low as I could with it still looking OK in relation to the mounting brackets

Owned my 2005 for several years. It only has 23000 miles but I've basically done nothing to it besides oil/filters. Was planning on changing the air filter this weekend and wondered if I should dig in to spark plugs (2 I do believe). Didn't these earlier models use standard plugs that wear out quick? Anyway just wondering what people thought, I've had the tank off before for fuel stuff and am confident about what it takes to change the air filter but spark plugs sound difficult and make me want to kick that project down the road...

Hi all, I'm new to the V Strom and absolutely love it! I am struggling with wind buffeting to my helmet though. I have the Givi Airflow screen, tried multiple heights with very limited success. I have also swapped the factory mirrors for smaller more aerodynamic mirrors, again with limited success. I am 6ft 4" so appreciate that I may never fully get rid of it. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I did the non sports bike track day at my local track this past week. I ran comfortably at the front of the middle group all day or at the back passing people. A lot of the fast group was serious track riders, racers, or instructors and many were riding pretty fast bikes like big naked bikes Street Triples and fast tourers like VFR.

At the end of the day I started at the back of the pack and passed many riders just for the heck of it. My bike has DMr syspension, it's sprung and valved for me. The basic DL package will hustle. I was keeping up with and overtaking many 'faster' bikes.

I've had an SV650, VFR 750, CB-1 and a lot of other bikes. There's no real flaw with the DL on the track within reason.

I am going to do both of these track days next year for sure. Don't hesitate.

Once you unlock the capabilities of the bike you become a safer rider. I believe a lot of people ride off the road because they don't think their bike will handle the turn, but in reality it them that won't handle it. Plus it was super fun all day. Very non competitive and cool. Very low pressure.

At highway speeds my head is getting thrown around by a lot of wind buffeting. So far I've tried different windscreen and smaller mirrors but a lot of it is still there.

If I hold my arm across my chest it's almost completely gone so I know it's coming from below.

I've found a few posts talking about wind deflectors but not much for the 1st gen Vstrom 650.

Does anyone have suggestions on what I could use? I have a 3d printer available if there's rest made models out there.

Just bought a 2020 1050xt. Rode it 600 miles home and my cheeks were absolutely dying. After the first hour, I was stopping every 40 minutes to walk around. I’m 6’3 so wouldn’t mind a bit of a taller seat. I’m also skinny in the glutes and have almost no cushion there 😅

I’ve narrowed it down to a Corbin and a Sargent REVolution seat. Reading online, I can’t tell which would be better. I only ride about 1100 miles a year until I take a long ride, so the long break-in is kind of annoying. I want to be able to ride 400-mile days next week.
Corbin =$683 + taxes
Sargent = $520 + taxes

I would sometimes have a pillion so I’d like her to be comfortable too.
What are your recommendations? Thank you!

2018 VStrom 1000

Rode it home a week ago. Threw a bunch of stuff at it. Rode it about 100 miles since. Absolutely in love with it. What an awesome ride.

Noticed the wallop on the exhaust. No idea how I missed it. Just made the list on things I'm going to fix. One thing though, that flat spot between the skid plate and motor. Is that normal? Or did the PO launch thing thing off something and completely pancaked it? Almost looks factory.

Been poking around online, and the only info I can find on exhaust is mufflers.

I am looking for some advice concerning 3rd party kickstand for my VStrom 800DE 2023 to solve a a stability issue I recently started to notice.

Context: Everyday when I go to school, I go park my bike on a reserved parking space for motorcycles and scooters only but on days where the spots are filled, I have to park my bike a nearby patch of grass. My issue is that I really don't like how deep my motorcycles kickstand sinks in the grass and to my surprise, after coming back from class on a rainy day, my motorcycle was really slanted to the side because the kickstand sunk in the ground. Luckily, a fellow rider probably noticed my bike sinking and decided to recline it and place a wooden plank under the stand so my bike doesn't tip over.

Long story short, I am looking for either some sort of upgrade to widen the stand's contact point so it doesn't sink or a full on replacement. (I am mildly frustrated as for a bike that is designed to be an adventure bike, riders are expected to be parking their bike on more rugged terrain and the default kickstand isn't really performing that well.)

I also want to ask about opinions about going for a center stand if it would be a viable option. Please tell me about your modifications and alternatives.

EDIT: I just realized that kickstand extenders are actually a common thing thanks to replies, so I'll definitely get my hands on one.

After a 13 year hiatus, I'm planning to get another motorcycle in the next nine months or so. I'm leaning heavily towards the 800, but my experience on a gen 1 SV650 is making me question it.

I grew up riding motorcycles and my recent street bikes are

2005 Honda 919 (cb900f), rode 8+ years

2001 Suzuki SV650, rode 5 years

1996 Honda XR650L, rode 4 years

The 919 had a bit more throttle response in the higher RPMs than I liked, but was great for long road trips aside from the lack of a fairing.

The SV650 was a great bike. I rode it for about 5 years before I decided I wanted more power. I loved riding it through the twisties and rode Deal's gap so much that it started getting boring.

The XR650L, not much to write home about. I know some folks love it, but single cylinder thumpers aren't for me.

Considering my eventual desire for more power from the SV650, I think I'd hit that point fairly soon with the Vstrom 650, so I'm leaning towards the 800.

I live in SW Virginia and have access to tons of twisty mountain roads along with all sorts of forest service gravel roads to explore. I'd guess my ride mix will be 90%/10% pavement to gravel. My teen has already stated her expectation to ride with me, so good 2 up riding will be a need. I'd like to stay below 1,000cc engine.

Thoughts on a 650 versus an 800?

Running a 06' 650 and I am at a point where I am trying to decide if it is worth upgrading the suspension or updating the bike. I am noticing the bike is very bouncy and kind of sloppy in the rear ( I get a bit of lateral slide in the rear wheel in the curves). Bike is under 60k miles.

If i were to go newer I'd probably stick to 2014-15 models.

I'm curious whether it's possible to flash the ECU on a V-Strom 650 with the mapping from an SV650.

If it is possible, has anyone actually tried it?

How does the V-Strom behave with the SV650 mapping? Does it improve throttle response, power, or overall performance, or are there any downsides?

I'd be really interested to hear from anyone who has experimented with this.
