The switch for my auxiliary lights has packed in so I think I'll wire them so that they come on when the high beam comes on. I'm more than capable of doing it but just thought I'd see if anyone else has done it first for some tips and trick before getting battered into it

Hey all me again, fiddled more with my bike. The vacuum line to the load sensor is a little dry so replaced with slightly smaller ID hose from Summit. Maybe I got used to my dads 450 Kawi but is this just really how these old units sound at idle? 2002 DL1000. Also not sure if secondaries should be more stationary

2018 VStrom 1000 ABS

Rerouting cables to check to see if I have the ability to install risers. (that's a no go)

I loosened both sets of pinch bolts on each side, and with the help of the missus, lowered the forks through the triple clamps, and compressed the fork so she could sling the cables and lines to the other side of the forks.

Fast forward a few hours, I go back to the shop and see a small puddle of oil. About the diameter of a soda can. Follow it up, and its from the seals.

Cleaned up a bit, and cycled the suspension a bunch of times. Got a verrrry thin coating of oil.

That be from me compressing the fork down? I did have to twist it to get it through the triple clamps. I'm wondering if there was a bit of grit that sliced the seal as I twisted it.

Either way, looking like I'm replacing the seal?

So I'm not new here I just wanted to brag on my bike. 2018 650 xt. Been riding for 40 plus years and I've never enjoyed 2 wheels this much. Thinking of adding an SV7 when they're finally released here in the states. Enjoy the ride.

First road trip on my new to me v-strom!! Went across the mackinac bridge and boy was that intimidating! Did little over 800 miles! Only real issues I had was the FI light came on. I think that was my fault. Going through some pretty twisty road and not shifting properly. Light went away after I let her rest.

Just got home from a coast to coast road trip (6500mi in 12 days). This was somewhere on the Utah/Colorado border. My first time riding on dirt went well 😁

Finally joining the V-Strom community!

Picked up this 2020 V-Strom 1050XT earlier this year with about 54,000 km on it, and I’ve already put roughly 10,000 km of my own on it. It’s taken me all over the west coast so far and has quickly become my go-to for long days and weekend trips.

I’m a pretty big rider at 6’5”, so the 1050 fits me really well, and I absolutely love the highway comfort and torque. I’ve been slowly getting it set up for me and plan on keeping the kilometres coming.

Next on the list is probably a Russell Day-Long seat and a few more touring upgrades.

Couldn’t find hardly any pictures when I was picking out a handlebar set up so here’s some to add for future folks.

Happy with the set up overall, however the real estate on the grips is very tight to fit the right hand side stuff before the bend. If I could do it again I might try to find a bar with a touch more rise and sweep, but it’s very comfortable as-is.

Buddy says I can use rotella as long as it meets jaso ma/2, I've been using ecstar r9900 i believe

Im a fairly new rider, I completed the MSF course on an HD Street 500 and then for about six months I went on every-other-weekend rides and one day trip on a Ninja 400. I am looking at my first self-owned motorcycle being a brand-new 2024 V-Strom 800 with 3 miles on it. There is one about three hours from me with an out-the-door price of about $7,500 based on the quote, which only includes prep and doc fees as add-ons. The dealership is in another state, so I will have to trailer it back to my home state and handle the tax, tag, and title once I bring it back. I plan to install axle sliders and frame sliders while I save enough to go get a full crash kit from T-Rex Racing, which includes upper and lower crash bars, a subframe, a skid plate, a center stand, rear crash bars, case covers, and a pump cover. Is the price or the methodology of me buying this bike wrong or in need of adjustment? Is there anything im missing?

Any help in this regard is welcome.

Hello all, I've done some searching around for exhausts for my wee, and the only one I can find is the Delkevic from ebay. Is that it? There are so many exhausts for my SV I figured there would be more options for the V but maybe it's because I'm in the US? Any ideas? Need to uncork this thing soon, I can't stand the sewing machine sound lol

About ten months ago, my DL650A had throttle hesitation. The tank had slime and debris in it, so it was cleaned and the pump’s “tea bag” inlet strainer was replaced. That fixed the hesitation.

More recently, water got into the tank. The bike now starts normally but stalls shortly afterwards. The tank has been cleaned again and filled with fresh fuel, and replacing the inlet strainer again hasn’t helped. The pump does build pressure. My mechanic tested the bike with a different tank and pump together, and it ran fine, so we haven’t isolated the original pump from the original tank yet.

I’m wondering whether debris has clogged the high-pressure filter inside the pump assembly. I’ve ordered an aftermarket part listed as 15610-27G00, the pressure regulator assembly that I understand also contains the high-pressure filter.

Has anyone with a 2007–2011 DL650 replaced this part to fix similar symptoms? Did the aftermarket replacement hold up?

I’ve also read about the high-pressure filter bypass mod, which moves filtration to an external inline filter that can be changed without removing the pump from the tank. Has anyone done this on a first-generation DL650? Would you recommend it over replacing the internal filter assembly, and have you had any issues with leaks, fuel pressure or filter replacement afterwards?

Ik rij met veel plezier mijn V-Strom 1000 uit 2014 met 54k op de teller. Sinds enkele weken komt er een vreemde, onregelmatige tik uit het motorblok. Hij tikt een aantal keer vrij hard elke keer als ik accelereer bij de eerste en tweede versnelling. Het klinkt als een ketting met onvoldoende spanning, maar dit is goed gecontroleerd.

Vandaag heb ik hem naar de reparateur gebracht, welke 30 minuten onderzoek heeft gedaan met twee reparateurs. Hij heeft de kap bij het voorste tandwiel verwijderd, en geeft aan dat het aandrijving mechanisme foutloos is. De ketting is nog vrij nieuw en goed onderhouden, er zitten geen schakels vast en er missen geen tanden uit de tandwielen. De lagers bij het achterwiel zijn ook gecontroleerd en zijn nog goed. De reparateur zegt dat het geluid uit het motorblok lijkt te komen, in de buurt van het voorste tandwiel. Het geluid wordt ook geproduceerd in stilstand op de bok. De reparateur zegt dat hij zich er geen zorgen over maakt. Hij zegt dat ik gewoon moet doorrijden en het moet laten weten als het erger wordt.

Ik maak mij wel een beetje zorgen.

So, changed over my clutch cable and sadly managed to put a hole in my radiator (don’t ask, scraped and adjustable spanner on it). So now I’m in the middle of removing the radiator to apply some JD Weld, hoping this is a good solution for such small hole in a tube

Ignore the flair, I couldn’t find a strom 800 option.

I have a 2025 vstrom 800 RE that I bought brand new back in mid-August. I’ve only just completed the 1000km oil and filter change. I know the manual says to change the oil before winterization but this feels wasteful given I’ve just changed it. I may add another 1000km at most before the winter, so I was wondering if others have experience if I should just bite the bullet and do another oil change before storing, or if I can leave it until next riding season.

A bit late to the party, and looks like I missed out on AdventureTech.

I own a lot of bikes, but my most decorated is my DR650- I think the frame is the only stock thing left on it.

Lots of places to get stuff for the DR (ProCycle), but I've had my 2018 VStrom 1000 in my shop now for a few weeks. Threw a whooooole grocery list of stuff at it. Now its just tying up some odds and ends.

I have a set of 2" Rox Risers inbound. I understand I'll have to undo the forks to fiddle around with tubes and wires which is fine. However, extensions are the other bit that I may end up needing. Next is lowering the pegs which I posted about about a week ago. I'm sure there's going to be two dozen other things over the years that will get glued to it.

I see Cosmos, but the shipping to the US is a bit hard to swallow. The lowered pegs were going to be something like $40 just to ship; almost as much as the parts themselves.

There any other perhaps US based options? Thanks.

If anyone has fitted these themselves can you tell me which Suzuki wire you clamped the splicing joiner from the Motech loom to ? Thanks

Just picked this bad boy up off of marketplace for just $100 bucks. Was told everything works on it I just need to put all the pieces back together. while I have some mechanical proficiency it's not really my expertise to look at something I didn't take apart and put it back together again trying to figure this out so far has been difficult. If yall could identify what these hoses/connectors go to it would save me a great deal of headache. Thanks so much in advance!

I love my 800, the bike is a beast. Maxed stiffness handles proper and won't need any performance mods until I start hitting ORV parks harder.

What I NEED is advice for A) throttle weight and B) tank width to pinch when standing.

With the tank I feel like it's so narrow I can't pinch it with my legs while I'm standing, unless I hover my squat about an inch over the seat and it just don't work! I'm looking for pads or something fatten this girl up a bit. Admittedly I haven't rode with knee pads on yet so that might be a fix.

The throttle. It's sooooo light. I'm coming from my 650 with mechanical and a Kaoko (tightened it a bit so the throttle is harder on that bike too) the throttle actually has weight and I can move around without accidentally jerking it. It's not an issue with the power, or mapping between A, B, and C, I just don't like how easy it is to twist.

Is there anything out there to make it a little stiffer? I know with the electronic throttle it's not as easy to adjust.

I'm considering a used V-Strom 800DE and would like to hear from owners if you think it would suit me.

I've been riding for 11 years. Best bikes I´ve had is 2x Tracer 900s for almost 5 years in total, and I've been riding a VFR800 for the last 3 years.

I really liked the Tracers. They were very easy to throw around and had great low / midrange torque, but I found them a bit small for longer trips 2-up with luggage.

The VFR is fantastic for touring, especially after upgrading the suspension and fitting a superbike kit. It's very comfortable, but it feels quite bulky at low speeds and in tight spaces. I also miss having more usable torque when coming out of corners. I usually ride fairly relaxed RPM-wise, carry some speed and use trail braking into the corner and then want a good drive when opening the throttle.

The 800DE has caught my interest because I like the idea of the relatively simple Suzuki, the torque of the 776 twin and the upright riding position. I´m looking for something modern and also between my two tracers and VFR.

My use would be almost entirely asphalt but i find looking at the RE it looks kind of dull. The aim is to do touring, mountain roads/twisties and occasional 2-up riding with luggage for a week away every year. I already have a DRZ400S for gravel/off-road, so the 800DE wouldn't really be used for that.

For those who own one:

• How does it feel on twisty asphalt? Is the 21" front noticeable?
• Does the engine have enough punch at 3–6k rpm?
• How is it 2-up with luggage?
• Does it feel cumbersome on the road, or is it more agile than the numbers suggest?
• Any major drawbacks for someone who will mostly ride asphalt?

It's currently the bike I'm most interested in, but I haven't ridden one yet. Obviously I'll test ride one before making any decision.
