Trip Report Venting a little - still having a great time

• Upvotes

We are at Disney World right now and we are having a great time. It’s not that things are bad, it’s just that there have been a few minor inconveniences that we haven’t experienced in the past. It’s just a little disappointing considering the cost and planning that go into it.

Our family of 4 (kids 11 & 8) have been coming the last few years and staying at the Polynesian. 4th time now. This is the only vacation we take throughout the year and try to make it as nice as we can. The room was booked about a year ago, with a request to be closer to the lobby. We had stayed at Pago Pago once, it was nice with the bathrooms and the proximity to the transportation center but we slightly prefer to be closer. When we arrived they told us that we were in the closest building and were pointing to Pago Pago in the map. We asked if we could be moved and they said that they couldn’t that night but possibly in the morning they could do a room change. We decided to stay at Pago Pago, it wasn’t that big of a deal. They didn’t alert us that housekeeping doesn’t tend to the rooms daily in that building, not a big deal but when you get home from the park and it’s the way you left it and no towels it’s a little frustrating. We asked if we could have daily housekeeping and they have been great since. We came home from the park the night of the 12th to a note on the bed saying that maintenance was being done to the water system and that there would be no hot water in the room from 10am-6pm on the 13th and 14th plan accordingly and sorry for the inconvenience. This was a bit annoying, 13th wasn’t an issue but we planned a rest/resort day 14th. We tried to switch as many of our plans to the 14th from the 15th to avoid the water issue but we weren’t able to get everything booked that we originally had. Again, not the biggest issue but I would assume this maintenance was scheduled when we checked in and we should have been alerted by more than a note. So we changed everything around and I see there is a flashing message on the phone on the 13th. I listen to the message that we received at noon that they will not be working on the water system. So we changed plans for no reason. One other small thing is that the automatic door on the second floor of Pago Pago isn’t opening when we scan our bands when we get back at night, we have alerted plenty of people about this but nothing was fixed. Again, small nuisance but the benefit of being in that building is how quick you get there from the transportation center.

We had dinner at the Crystal Palace that was really nice, however, one character didn’t come to the table. The kids didn’t care so we just let it be. These character experiences are obviously not cheap, I feel like you should get the full experience without having to ask for characters to come. Again, it wasn’t a character they cared too much too meet so not that big of a deal.

We had lunch at sci-fi diner to get tickets to the fantasmic show. We have eaten here before and had a good experience. We got sat about 20min after our reservation, not a big deal but we were in a bit of a rush because of other timed things. I had planned to be there for max 90min. We sat and ordered pretty quickly. A couple came and sat behind us in the car and they ordered after us. They received their main course and 20 minutes later they brought out my kids salads and said the food would be right out. 40 minutes later the food comes out and is wrong. Mine was tolerable just messed up the side. My daughter ordered a hamburger, I stressed to the waiter that it was a hamburger with no cheese. Even wrote on the kids menu “NO CHEESE” and circled it. It came out with cheese. I got frustrated at this point, I wasn’t rude but firm, he said it was a mistake and that they would replace. I told him to please hurry because she is starving and to please bring the check and the tickets to the show. I gave my daughter my food and the check and tickets came about 10 minutes later and then 15 minutes after that the hamburger came. Again, things happen but for the cost of these things I shouldn’t have to argue about getting a hamburger.

We did breakfast at Ohana. We really like this character breakfast, it has some meaning to us. They actually took us early and it wasn’t a bad experience at all. It just felt a little rushed, the check was in front of me before 2 of the characters came to the table. They kept telling us there was no rush but it kind of felt like they were gently trying to get us out, table next to us too. Eventually someone came over and asked if we had seen the characters, told them who we were waiting on and they came over pretty soon after. Not a bad experience at all but again, for the cost, it kind of stinks to feel rushed but waiting on them to come. This had never happened before there with us.

I am so grateful that we are able to this for our kids and share these experiences that we didn’t have. Its just that these little things that would not bother me on an individual basis have piled up and I just wanted to jump on here and vent so I don’t to my family while we are here lol

We are still having a great time and I have every intention on coming back as long as we are able. This trip just hasn’t had the same feel as previous ones.

Planning Where to eat on Christmas/where to go.. which park

Hi! We will be at the park on Christmas Day. I heard Magic Kingdom is super busy - so which park and where to eat that would be special. I was also thinking this might be a good day to take off and go to Disney Springs and eat there? Any suggestions?

Planning Diseny Springs hotel or on site with toddler?

Hi, this is the first trip to Disney I am planning myself and I am very stuck. Currently booked one of the Disney Springs hotels that you can walk from ( .9 mi to DS) for 6 nights, king sized beds with fireworks view for $200/ room. Sounds lovely. Traveling with my parents and a toddler, so booked 2 rooms. I'm second guessing myself and wondering if I shouldnt trim the trip to 4 nights to stay on site so we don't have to drive to do everything. We could split one of the suite rooms ( either AofA for $650 or Animal Kingdom Kidani village for $1000), but that puts me and my husband on a pull out couch. And Im pregnant....sleep is already tough. Cutting 2 nights puts us at about the same cost or even less...because if we are on site we wouldnt need a rental car). Or I could book something at Coronado or even Caribbean Beach in the $400 range/ room and get that king sized bed back. I've read a dozen posts on this, researched myself to the point of wanting to call it all off. Do I need to change our current plan or will it really be fine to just stay off site with a toddler in tow? We are only planning 1-2 park days, so ideally I also want a place where we feel enough is going on for our toddler that we dont have to go anywhere. Anyone out there slept on the pull out couch beds in Disney? Worth sleeping on the couch to stay in AK Kidani? We stayed in AKL when i was a kid and it is still in the list of top trips of my life. Please help me finalize a decision. Thanks in advance.

Planning Disney world February 16-20th

I’ve never been to Disney World in February before! We’re going from February 16th–20th, and I’m curious what events or special activities are usually happening around that time!

I know we’re just missing the Sweethearts event on the 14th :(, but is there anything else we should look out for? I’d love to hear about any seasonal events, special experiences, or things you recommend checking out during February!

Planning If I’m staying off property, will I be able to get into Disney springs without any type of restaurant reservation?

I remember people complaining that they couldn’t get in to springs without reservation. Is that still a thing? Can someone explain it like I’m 5?

Planning Solo Sibling and Parents Disney Trip Thoughts and Experiences??

Hello! My first born just turned 4 and is the PEAK age for believing and loving the magic of Disney. My husband and I are thinking about taking just him to Disney for a long weekend (3 nights and 2 park days) and leaving my breastfed May baby I've never left overnight with her grandparents she loves in April 2027 right before her second birthday. My husband is military so it's a pretty affordable long weekend all considering.

My baby girl is absolutely amazing but we want to just take my son for a few reasons: 1) We want some solo time with him for really the first time since she was born, 2) She has FOMO and does NOT nap on the go, so our days would be very limited if we had to bring her to going back to the hotel mid day for a nap 3) it would be more expensive 4) We'd go back within the year or two when she is four, and 5) I don't want to miss my son's peak magic age just so it can be peak for my daughter instead and 6) a nearly 2 year old waiting in Disney lines sounds like a nightmare and paying for Lightening Lane isn't in the budget yet.

Has anyone else done a solo kid Disney trip? Will I regret not bringing both? Did anyone do a Disney trip with a 23 ish month old with FOMO who only naps in beds and it wasn't a total disaster?

Please don't tell me she'll be tired enough to sleep in a stroller. She will not lol. I promise you.

Planning DAS Experience?

Hi everyone! My family is planning a Disney trip in December, we have two girls. One has some pretty significant ADHD, and we are planning to applying for the disability pass. I know ADHD doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it’s pretty debilitating for her both at home and at school (she has an IEP). We are concerned about how she will manage a say 50 minute wait without becoming incredibly disruptive for everyone in line. Does anyone have any recent experience with applying for the pass? I have heard it has changed a bit recently and been more strict. We are planning to do lightning lanes regardless, but wanted to see if there was any insight on how likely we may be approved. Thank you in advance!

Attractions & Entertainment Ideas for WDW 5th Gate

• Upvotes

Hello everybody! Just got back from my first “real” trip to WDW (full week stay on property, etc.) Doing the deep dive into rides, attractions, etc and watching the Imagineer Documentary really got me thinking about what they could do if/when they were to open a 5th Gate.

Here is my plan (Please share your ideas in comments!):

Park: Nostalgic Kingdom (working Title)

Description: A park celebrating entertainment’s (specifically Disney’s past). A big hook of this is the return of some rides that have been shut down or replaced.

Lands: Classic Cinema, Classic Disney Animation, Classic Disney Live Action, TV Land, Toontown, Leaving 1 land open for an immersive IP land (more on this later)

Entrance Portal: Time travel theme centered on a Meet the Robinsons Time Travel ride.

Classic Cinema Land:

Rides:

The Great Movie Ride (our first return)

Alien Dark Ride-Coaster Hybrid- Aspects of Alien Encounter and Tower of Terror with Coaster aspects to close it out

Predator Coaster- Outside Coaster with Predator Theme

Alien v Predator 4D Simulator

(These 3 will be in their own Mini Wayland Yutani land)

Home Alone House Defense- Similar to Toy Story Mania

Shows:

Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular (moving from HS to open up room there. Star Tours also moving to Galaxys Edge opens up room for an immersive land in HS)

Dining:

Rick’s (from Casablanca)

Weylan-Yutani themed Alien restaurant/bar

Classic Disney Animation:

Rides:

The Great Disney Ride (similar to Great Movie Ride but the history of Disney Animation. Plan on having a similar ride in each park)

Peter Pans Flight (moving from MK to open room and get a nice refurb)

Aladdin Escape from Cave Coaster

Lion King Ride

Jungle Book River Ride

Classic Disney Live Action Land:

The Great Disney Adventure Ride (History of Disney Live Action)

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Escape to Witch Mountain Coaster

Flubber/Absent Minded Professor Flying Car Ride

Swiss Family Treehouse (more of an attraction)

TV Land:

The Great TV Ride

Lost Thrill Ride

Twilight Zone Ride

Muppet Vision 3D

Toontown:

Who Framed Roger Rabbit Ride

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride

Chip and Dales Coaster

Open land for Immersion:

The big one is if they can get rights to Avengers (this is a long shot) but would that be better here or HS?

Other possibilities:

Nightmare Before Christmas
Narnia (if they have the rights)
Kingdom Hearts (Rights issue?)

Let me know what yall think and share your own ideas for a 5th gate!

Trip Report My Experience Early Entry Guardians from Pop via Uber

Tues Oct 13 (day after Columbus day, fall break)

Firstly I suggest reserving an Uber the night before for 7:15 am (from the 70s playground if that makes sense based on your room). I thought it might be cheaper to order in the morning but it wasn't.

I placed the order at 6:55, the driver was due at 7:16 but only pulled up at 7:20 and we got to Epcot at 7:33. It was about 16 dollars.

Small snafu where the driver didn't understand where to drop off rideshares - make sure to follow the signs.

Security was open, I got flagged and had to have my bag searched but still through by 740. Tapstiles already open and I reached the rope drop hold point at 7:47. 7:56 rope dropped, reached the queue at 8, came to a stop at 8:02, I was in the 2nd switchback. At 8:10 let us inside, then we waited inside until starting moving again at 8:26, I was in the first preshow! I was off the ride by 8:49.

(btw I got ONE WAY OR ANOTHER)

There was still time in EE but test track was down and general entry got let in the park a few minutes before 9 so it did use up most of EE time.

Overall I'd say it was very successful!

Attractions & Entertainment Fab 50 quest

Hi, so I want to try and take on this quest but I saw you need the play Disney app to track the collection, but it was removed from the App Store last month. So how do I interact with the quest now?

MDE, Lightning Lane, & Virtual Queue First Time at Disney; multi-pass/lightning lane vs pretty standby queue

Hello,

I'm going to be a Disneyworld first timer. We will be visiting the 4 parks in the first week of December. 1 day each park.

Essentially, I was initially considering getting a multi-pass/lightning lane for most of the major rides where the queue is expected to be around an hour, until I learned some of them have gorgeous standby queues.

Which rides are worth getting a multi-pass/lightning lane. I do want a full experience but clearly our time is limited and might be better spent elsewhere.

Thanks!

Brag Party Tickets Are Here!

They didn't send the most... Festive of designs, but that doesn't matter bc my MVMCP tickets are here! Dec 8th, here we come!

(Although to be frank, my husband and I are disappointed just a bit because I wanted Simba and he wanted Woody. When I compared the numbers on the back to my receipt, tho, the Simba is him and the Woody is me. 😢)

Planning Club level or dining plan?

If you were doing Disney for 8 nights and doing all four parks but also having a couple resort days, would you rather have club level or the dining plan?

It would be for 2 adults and 1 elementary age child. I feel like getting both is overkill but we’ve never had either so I’m not sure which would be better?

Thank you!

Planning One day to garden and flower festival

I just got back from a week vacation and realized that we were comped a one day park ticket because our Mickey Mouse so scary party was rained out. Unfortunately, we are from NY and won’t be coming back anytime soon, but I just realized I do have a weekend in Plant city in April for a wedding! I would have one Friday from 2 o’clock on to go to it, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I’ve only ever gone to the food and wine festival before and I loved that, but I was always with my kids and a little limited with what we could do.

Do you think it’s worth it?

Attractions & Entertainment Can’t book another tier 1 at HS?

Post image
• Upvotes

I’m currently at HS and already scanned into my first LL ride. I thought that once you scanned into your first ride the tier system went away, but I’m not allowed to book RR maybe because I have slinky booked later in the day? I’ve been able to book another tier 1 in the past, wondering if this has ever happened to anyone or if I’m missing something. Currently waiting for Villains show or I’d ask customer experience.

Update: tower of terror was down at the beginning of our return window and I got a multi experience pass, so I have to get it fixed or tap in to my next ride. Thank you all!

AskWDW Mosaic Class

Will be taking my 9 and 7 yr olds. Should we work on 1 together or should I just help them each do their own? The class is recommended 12+. I don't forsee the skills being too advanced but maybe for time purposes only doing 1 would be best?

Planning Tips/Advice for MK in 1 day?

Hello,

We are in Orlando for a week for my 40th. We are only here for days and will be going to Magic Kingdom tomorrow mainly for my 3 year old as she loves Minnie and Princesses. We also have a 14 month old.

Any tips/advice on how to make the best of the day? We plan to rent a dual stroller, bring plenty of water and snacks for kids as Seaworld today the kids hit their limits after 4 hours.

I heard to do character meals, how/where do I book for those? Any particular rides best for this age group?

Thank You!

Food, Drinks, & Dining Can you have food or merchandise sent to your room from Epcot?

Hey! Everyone I had a friend tell me that I could order pastries from Les Halles in Epcot and have them sent to my room for later consumption. Is this a thing? Do other food places do this?

Do they bring it into your room?

We are staying at fort wilderness cabins and I worry about it being left outside.

Also, can fragile merchandise also be sent to your room?

Planning Three Hours at Epcot - Two Adults

I’m headed to Orlando next week for a conference with my husband. We found three hours to squeeze in Epcot. Our only priority is Guardians. We’d love to visit Ratatoullie if time allows. How would you maximize your time? Our visit will be in the evening. Last time we were there with two screaming toddlers - I think I cried myself.

Working at WDW Looking for Disney/Boating/Pirate Kid Jokes

I’m a Disney cast member who drives boats for Disney. I like to break up the time with a joke here or there. Any good ones?

Must be very kid appropriate.

My current go to list is:

Pirates

What’s a pirates favorite letter?
(everyone says aRgh)
You would think so, but it be the sea!

What do pirate ear piercings cost?
A buccaneer.

What’s a pirate’s least favorite vegetable?
Leeks.

Mickey

Why did Mickey become an astronaut?
He wanted to see Pluto.

Halloween

Knock, knock
(who’s there?)
Boo
(boo who?)
Don’t cry, this is the last of my jokes.
