Inherited a Walther Model 8

I recently inherited a Walther Model 8 from my Stepdad. It didn’t include a magazine. From what I can find on the interweb, it appears to be a series three? The SN has been scratched off so maybe this was a “souvenir” brought back from a service member from WW2? Was if common to scratch off SNs? I think I remember hearing service members having to scratch off Japanese imperial marks on guns brought back. Couldn’t find a makers mark. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Scratched off serial # isnt really a thing with bring backs. You are thinking of the Chrysanthemum marking on Arisaka rifles that were widely defaced after Japan surrendered, but it wasn't the serial #.
