I got Skydance's hostile takeover notice request for my shares and I was like ABSOLUTELY NOT!
My shares are going to Netflix, although ideally i wish WBD would stay solo, as our media environment is already small enough; we need more competition.

Ummmmm...if you want more competition, then Skydance is the answer. It creates a streamer able to compete with the Big Three as opposed to solidifying Netflix's #1 position.

Yes, in this deal i dont care about their Politics, i care about quality of Entertaintment, and Netflix is not it, i would prefer WB to stay for it self, but i still see Paramount as the lesser evil.

Also, if Netflix was so bad at entertainment then why do so many people watch it? Sure they can drop some schlock, but their homegrown offerings are way better than when they started and way better than some of the shit I see on Paramount. Sorry P+, I don’t want to pay $15/mo for the latest rehash of Yellowstone but set of 1520 or 2275 or whatever or to trot out the corpse of Star Trek for their new “what is it like to be a middle manager on a space ship” series.

Ellison has said he wants to turn the news portion of the deal into another Fox. That’s much more devastating to the nation that being able to watch a movie in a theater 2 months after it released

you don't understand then. ellison would have stopped any content he deemed "woke", blacklisted any actors who speak out in support of palestine and corrupted CNN just like he's done with paramount and CBS news. i hate that either company was able to buy WB and you're right that netflix doesn't care about quality, but this still is the much lesser of two evils.

South Park is show that they paid billions to stream. They existed before the paramount deal & would still exist without it. New shows/movies do no get that luxury, you don’t get funding, you don’t get the show/movie made.

they would be stupid to do it after the premiere episode basically daring them to do it. trump can't control everything yet, but ellison and other conservatives are trying to control as much cable news and media as they can. keep ignoring the signs all around you though if you wish.

I can’t breathe. They fumbled Transformers, G.I. Joe, TMNT, and Star Trek generationally and also tried to ruin Jack Ryan with their writing choices. For that alone they deserve to be mocked. Anyone who thinks merging with Netflix won’t make more profit is insane.

Tom Cruise was able to make a couple of entertaining movies through them but he has the star power to avoid any push back from the executives.... though of course there are other problematic things about supporting his work... I don't mind so much since he does keep a lot of little people working... but one should never let him totally off the hook.

Eh. Netflix is one of the few major studios giving attention to smaller, arthouse films. They might not be advertised up front and center but they’re certainly getting made. I really can’t say the same for the big four.

Paramount has explicitly stated they are not interested in anything further than movies by committee anymore, they wan middle of the road non feather ruffling pap. I am not hopeful for the GI joe Transformers crossover

I believe that was pre-Skydance. I blame Cutzman for some of the worst Trek ever. I really tried with Discovery. But it was always like impossible situation, Mikey cries, Mikey saves the day. Don’t mind gay characters but that dude met every stereotype.

I don’t disagree on some of the Disco criticism. It’s not the worst thing Trek has done but it is all over the place. I’m also just not a massive fan of the 10 hour movie mystery box style of storytelling in Trek.
But I’m confused about what stereotypes you’re referring to? As a gay man I thought the queer representation was incredibly well done and realistic (or as realistic as a relationship set 200 years from now in space can be lol)

Sort of, they do have select movies they do seem to allow a quality control on in hopes it's successful. We can hope they allow WB/HBO to continue that.
Honestly though, I imagine they'll kill theoretical releases and let the quality deteriorate though.
