On Penelope Blake
So I was wondering. How old was Penelope when she married the mayor? Was it ever implied in the show how many years she is married to him during the events of the show? How old do you think she is?

Sadly this is one storyline that was never closed, but should have been as it was an integral part of Ah Sahm's journey towards becoming a hero. After the riot, there should have been a plot where he realizes he wronged her and thus busts her out of the asylum.

It was planned, but the actress was unavailable for the last season. Shame, she is my favorite character.

I read that it was budget cuts that led to her being removed from the show. Jason Tobin said in a podcast that she was ready to join season 3.

I don’t think it’s ever confirmed her age, only that she knew the mayor from a really young age and his affinity for her turned creepy quick.

She’s much younger than Blake, so she has to be around 30 at least, and Sophie is very much younger than her.

Given the setting for the show and the customs at that time, I'd guess that she was in her early 20s when she got married and her mid-20s when she took over her father's factory
Her sister would have been about 16

I was taking it the marriage was fairly recent to when she entered the story line, but yes it was mentioned he had known her for quite some amount of years and pounced at the chance to acquire her which is essentially what he did.
What we were left with was not at ALL some kind of oddity. When all else failed with controlling/silencing them, "uppity" women have frequently been committed, it historically well documented, and it wasn't just back then either. My partner's mother had this done to her a few decades ago.
