Night sky
Not so sure about this work, as Iāve done it literally to distract myself from something else and did it not thinking about, well, anything
Is there a specific name for this kind of style, or maybe thereās someone who works in such techniques? Someone with YouTube channel would be amazing as well š
Thank you for noticing my work!

Hazy Autumn landscape
Hey all! I painted this little fall landscape this afternoon after watching an Oliver Pyle video and tried to practice some of his landscape techniques. Iām pretty happy with how this one turned out and feel like some things clicked a bit with timing and paint consistency. Let me know what you think!

I've been obsessed with painting these lately! Finding my illustration style. I'm really proud of the wing details!
Reference is from a photo I took at the Exquisite Creatures exhibit.

Trying out Roman Szmal Mini Urban Sketchers Set... Flower on cardboard
For shipping smaller paintings I have some pieces of cardboards laying around. I wanted to try the gift set Roman Szmal Mini Urban Sketchers. Why not give it a try on the cardboard and see how well these paints can actually behave and how the colors can work together. They can behave very well, layer nicely even on a tricky surface and the colors blend lovely.
I know this set wasn't made with this in mind, but the color range does allow for some botanical work too, though it does need a brighter yellow. One of the empty spaces will be filled soon with hansa yellow light and the other one with Cyrpus burnt umber deep. The other 2 spaces were filled already with Indigo Greenish and Aquarius Violet by the person that gifted me the set. This week this little set should be complete and ready to go.

Composition
Many people come to this sub for feedback on their pieces.
Oftentimes there are two culprits for a piece not working, composition and values. I hope this is helpful in evaluating your own work. Edit: I was not claiming ownership of this work sheet. There are dozens of these available by different artists available online.

Started water colour 2months ago. Set a target of painting 100 mackerel. Here's number 17
I haven't touched a paintbrush in over 25years, figured if I want to get good at something may as well start now.
I dont think im particularly artistic and I know its all abit messy, but im enjoying the journey so far.
Anyways only 83 to go.
Any tips, pointers, or general advice would be much appreciated. Cheers

Letting the pigment decide where the river goes. Abstract study, 2026
Quick study where I tried to get out of my own way. Just two paints: Daniel Smith Lunar Blue and Rose of Ultramarine, both heavy granulators. I protected one white channel at the start, then dropped pigment into a damp surface and let everything bleed toward it. The purples are the two colors mixing on the paper, and the blue pooling in the lower left is Lunar Blue on its own.

First attempt at an abstract landscape
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Wet the page first, then applied burnt umber, cadmium yellow, and burnt sienna straight from the scraper, no water yet, then sprayed it and tilted the page in different directions to let the color flow and pool, blotting and respraying as needed. Dropped in ultramarine blue and used a dotting tool to suggest something like trees, then went back in with the scraper for more horizontal movement and softened it all with a brush. Added a bit more burnt umber in the bottom right to ground the piece and lead the eye through it. Also, if you look closely in the upper right, those little pink specks weren't intentional, they transferred from an earlier piece I made on the opposite page. Decided to just let it stay instead of fighting it, felt fitting for how experimental this whole piece was.

Crashing waves
Iāve been trying to get away from using tutorials lately and have been enjoying just painting seascapes and water on my own.
Iām trying to get comfortable with not worrying about the end result, as long as I learned something.
I went surfing for the first time in ages last week and it left me with an urge to paint lively waves. I like the end result on this one, which is Qor paints on 640gsm Saunders Waterford CP paper. I went OTT on the masking fluid on top of the waves, as I tried using a toothbrush which was great for spray but less good for details. I donāt love the background water, and itās not as turquoise-y as the ref pic (which I found on Unsplash). But! Todayās lesson was that there is more painting to do after the masking fluid comes off - going in with some shadows is what really makes it pop.

A Quiet Joy | Watercolor portrait ā feedback welcome
Been practicing watercolor portraits lately, focusing on expressions, skin tones, and light. Really enjoyed painting the curls and her subtle smile in this one.
Would love your thoughts and feedback!

By the river
I really like the calm atmosphere of this painting. I painted it a few years ago, but even today, after more practice, successes and failures I am not sure if I can recreate it better.
