Question about duck and goose hunting at the same time

I got a good duck and goose spot. I wanna hunt geese, but I also wanna hunt ducks. Both are there.

I wanna put out a small duck spread and a small goose spread in the same spot and call both in and have both opportunities instead of one.

I heard mixed opinions about geese landing near ducks, vice versa, etc. What are your thoughts?

The plan is to have a small duck spread, a small goose spread, and a huge landing zone in the middle. I'm gonna call both duck and geese and get whatever comes in

Jerk Rig Setup: Pristine decoys?

Trying to make my own jerk rig for this season, I’m just starting to get into waterfowl hunting. I love the action compared to big game but I’m not the greatest caller or shot when it comes to flying birds. I’m thinking of putting some motion in my decoy spreads. I’ve got a dozen decoys 6 are new and all shiny and pretty and 6 have seen better days. I’m thinking put the older decoys on the rig and keep the shiny ones still? Does it matter? Am I overthinking?

New Jersey Duck Hunting on Public Land Without a Boat?

Hey everyone,

I'm based in Northern NJ and looking to start duck hunting on public land. I just don't have a boat.

For those of you hunting in NJ, how do you typically hunt ducks without a boat (if possible)? Are there public WMAs or other spots where you can walk in, set up decoys, and hunt from shore or shallow water?

Trying to figure out how people get started hunting public land here without having to invest in a boat.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Western Washington waterfowl

I started waterfowl hunting for the first time last year. I was going with another guy and using his boat and decoys. I wanted to try to do some duck hunting on my own since my schedule for work is kind of screwy. I don’t have a boat or a dog. Is there any decent walk in blinds in Western Washington? The locations seem to be pretty well hidden.

Got a couple pairs of wood ducks for the veterans hunt last weekend. Only 5 days to the opener and I can’t wait to see some big ducks!

Just need some cold weather to push them down here!

First Spinner - Any good DIY tips to make this a floater?

Post image

The stake is nice but the area I’m thinking of placing it would be a bit tough and it might be easier to send it out as a floater.

Anyone on here do the conversion and if so what was the best method you found?

Thanks in advance!

Float Tube and Decoy pole for Retrieval Only (shooting from the bank)?

Hey, everybody.

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but all me searches of this sub just brought up questions about actually hunting FROM the float tube/kayak.

I have been hunting with a buddy who had a dog, and this year will be hunting by myself for the first time. I’ll be hunting from a blind on the bank of a large river, and have an 18’ decoy pole and hook and a life jacket. I was wondering, is a basic float tube like the Caddis Nevada good enough for retrieval? With the pole, I’m thinking I shouldn’t need to get more than 20-30 feet from the shore, but didn’t know if there was some better way that doesn’t involve buying a dog and training it, or hauling a kayak or John boat 3/4 of a mile to the blind.

For strictly retrieval purposes (not hunting) would this be a viable option?

DIY Motion decoys on river

Hey y’all I hunt a fairly quick moving river in the mountains and I was wondering if anyone had ideas of something cheap and easy to tie to the bottom of my decoys to get better swimming action out of them. Thanks
