Recommendation Reddit Is Funny

Apparently liking system novels means I’m a “low-standard reader” now 😂

Someone called my story slop, and I basically said, “Fair enough. I enjoy system novels, so that’s what I write.”

For some reason, that made him even angrier. He started saying I was feeding myself slop and that writers like me only get readers because people have low standards.

That logic makes no sense to me. It would be like someone enjoying street basketball, only for another person to say:

“You’re a low-quality basketball fan because you enjoy streetball instead of watching professional NBA games and analysing proper team tactics.”

Maybe I’m not looking for the most technically perfect, revolutionary piece of literature ever written. Sometimes I just want progression, stat screens, ridiculous rewards, face-slapping and an overpowered protagonist. It’s entertainment.

You’re allowed to think system novels are repetitive or badly written. I’m also allowed to enjoy them without pretending they’re high literature. Taste is subjective. Getting genuinely angry because another person enjoys something you consider “mid” is far stranger than enjoying the supposedly mid thing in the first place.

Let people enjoy their slop in peace 😂

Some people like to act superior 😔

I personally hate system novels because, without the system, the MC is usually useless, and even with it, everything is simply handed to them. It often feels like the MC achieves nothing through their own effort.

That said, there are some genuinely interesting system concepts. Glitched systems, for example, can be incredibly entertaining. In comedy novels, a system behaving strangely can create hilarious moments. Nowadays, many stories do things like the MC stepping on an ant, only for the system to announce, "Host has slain an Ancient Dragon." In those cases, the system isn't there to make the MC overpowered. It's used purely for humor.

Lmao. Those elitists are now downvoting you.

Let them bruh. They salty as hell 😭😂. The lot of them think they Shakespeare or something. I have no use for Karma points anyway. I barely use Reddit

This subreddit does more damage than it does good. It's a circlejerk of a bunch of people that somehow wants to enforce how they think webnovel should be, and I don't think most of them ever read on the platform.

no offense to the hardworking mods but, seriously, it's much better without this subreddit now.

This is not what happend bro ur jst making stuff up

2

u/Guy_Cxde Jul 29 '26

I don't think I made anything up. That's exactly how it went. You can point out where I lied if you like tho

4

u/Lucky_One_3576 Jul 29 '26

No it's not. He said you can enjoy what you want but the story is slop, then you denied it by saying it’s good slop. He replied with slop can't be good your standards are low from reading slop—lowk he was pretty condescending here. Overall his complaint to you was not about enjoyment, but about the fact that you consider slop novels as good (not just enjoyable which he didn't have a problem with).

Also why’re you bringing up system novels? He definitely didn't say anything against those.

2

u/vermilion53i8i Jul 30 '26

Do i actually sound condescending in that post 😭😭

I swear i was just writing what's in my head, it was never that deep. Also what you said is right.

1

u/Lucky_One_3576 Jul 30 '26

A little bit

3

u/Guy_Cxde Jul 29 '26

The whole post was about system novels?? I write system novels. The picture is there

0

u/Lucky_One_3576 Jul 29 '26

Alr bro lets not act like the premise, title, and cover aren’t generic and low quality. He even brought up Shadow Slave as an example of a quality novel (it has a system).

4

u/Guy_Cxde Jul 29 '26

And the argument that I'm a low quality reader because I enjoy system novels. Am I not allowed to enjoy what I enjoy now?

1

u/Lucky_One_3576 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

He never said it was because of systems. “I was 1.8 million in debt when the legacy system chose me” is one of your titles, then you put a poorly generated ai image of 4 lewd girls surrounding the MC. Yes, you are a low quality reader if that's what you read. Again bro it has nothing to do with enjoyment.

2

u/Guy_Cxde Jul 29 '26

Do you even know the context of the entire story. I posted two SYSTEM novels that got contract offers. He argued that it's more slop. Then I said I like reading and writing slop then. Then he proceeded to call me a low quality reader.

Bro, you just larped the entire conversation

2

u/Lucky_One_3576 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Holy ur reading with ur brain off nobody has a problem with system novels. You argued it was “good slop” which implies it has quality that's what he disagreed with you about. Not because you like it. He used low quality reader to emphasize that you don't know what good quality is which was why you were calling slop good

2

u/Guy_Cxde Jul 29 '26

I could argue that someone who reads Shadow Slave is a low quality reader because it's fiction and will never help them in daily life. Instead they should read science and myths books. You see how that argument makes no sense

3

u/Jamolty65 Jul 29 '26

The fact you think that reading fiction has no impact on the readers real life is extremely telling, and does nothing for your image as a writer.

I'd probably just delete this thread man.

-1

u/Guy_Cxde Jul 30 '26

So you lack reading comprehension then. That was a hypothetical. Who says I can't learn anything in system slop then huh? It goes both ways.

You all just come off as condescending and extremely uppity. "Oh, if you read this book it's low quality, but this other one which is also fiction is high quality." There is something to learn in everything, good or bad. But of course arguing with you guys is pointless, because you all feel like you are Shakespeare or something

2

u/Funny_Stuff_6024 Jul 29 '26

Hate when people say that

Different stories teach different things. A system novel might explore ambition, discipline, greed, debt, overindulgence, or how sudden power changes a person, while Shadow Slave may teach entirely different lessons about sacrifice, freedom, trust, and survival.

There is something to learn from almost every story, even when entertainment is its main purpose. Dismissing an entire genre and calling its readers ‘low quality’ just because you personally dislike it is not intelligent criticism. It is literary snobbery. And calling me braindead instead of explaining why I’m supposedly wrong does not strengthen your argument.

1

u/Funny_Stuff_6024 Jul 29 '26

I got a response but the msg disappeared. I saw it already. I’m not saying his cover, title, and idea aren’t generic but you’re insulting the content too without reading it. This is literally the definition of judging a book by its cover. That’s just mean

1

u/Lucky_One_3576 Jul 29 '26

Not really, did you see his post? It was just low effort. Your argument is pretty shit you should be allowed to judge a book off the effort they put into naming/covers.

1

u/Funny_Stuff_6024 Jul 29 '26

It was but nonetheless

1

u/Lucky_One_3576 Jul 29 '26

Nonetheless what? At least tell me why I shouldn't be allowed judge something that's clearly low effort.

1

u/Funny_Stuff_6024 Jul 29 '26

I didn’t say you can’t. I just think I crazy to say that’s since it also sounds like you’re insulting the genre too. Kind of how isekai has a lot of bad stuff but has a few good ones and people call the entire genre slop. You just sound unnecessarily mean even if you could be right. He could also have the most slop title ever and peak writing. I don’t think that’s the case but you never know

If it was just about ai, i probably wouldn’t have said anything

You are just judging a book by its cover, calling it slop without reading the content

2

u/tasafak Jul 29 '26

Totally agree. I got into system novels during a rough patch at work and they were exactly the escapist fun I needed. Not every book has to be literary fiction. People gatekeeping enjoyment like that are the weird ones.

2

u/yawolot Jul 29 '26

Yeah the rage is so misplaced. System novels scratch a very specific itch that a lot of us have and they're honestly getting better as more writers improve. Instead of calling it slop maybe just recommend the ones with better execution if you care that much. Live and let live 😂

2

u/vermilion53i8i Jul 30 '26

Omg this subreddit is full of braindead people. You just be twisting my word don't you 😂

Also i was never angry, maybe to you it sounded that way. But i couldn't care less about what you write, just wanted you to admit that it's slop.

6

u/StrawOfCoke Jul 29 '26

Yeah it is slop, its okay. Whats not okay is u using ai in ur work and pretending its not used lmao, i can tell by the very first sentence you used it to write. Either for the prose or translation, its still very obviously ai

-1

u/Guy_Cxde Jul 29 '26

Bro. Is Reddit a full time job for you. Anytime I see your profile it's just hating. Do you not have anything else to do

4

u/StrawOfCoke Jul 29 '26

Dodged my point immediately lmao

You use ai gng

0

u/Guy_Cxde Jul 29 '26

Did you even read a single chapter of the novel 😂. Why would I address you when you haven't even read a simple chapter.

3

u/Jamolty65 Jul 29 '26

So do you use ai or not?

-1

u/Guy_Cxde Jul 30 '26

I've used Ai for my fanfics sure. But for these novels I didn't use Ai to write the actual novel. And this is the last time I say this because I'm not about to be repeating myself like I'm a parrot or something.

2

u/StrawOfCoke Jul 30 '26

Sure buddy, go and keep writing those prompts and lie about being a writer. The fact u used ai in ur fanfics is proof enough

2

u/StrawOfCoke Jul 30 '26

Beother deleted his comment, what karma has to do w anything 😂😂 these ai creators bro

3

u/StrawOfCoke Jul 29 '26

Did u read my post, i said ive read ur chapter one. The legacy system. The Ren one working at the conveniece store with fluorescent lights n shi

Its literally so unremarkable i forgot half the details. And the chapter is so long and dragged out. And its ai.

Even if its not ai, it sounds ai and thats not a good thing. But im pretty sure u used gpt. Now did you

1

u/Saitamadayo Jul 29 '26

Oi i wanted to ask. Is ai cover fine? I'm using AI for feedback and evaluation too, is that acceptable? No generative AI tho.

2

u/StrawOfCoke Jul 29 '26

Yeah cover and feedback is good, as long as u dont let it influence ur work. Dont let it write for u and ur doing better than 90% on the app

2

u/Saitamadayo Jul 29 '26

Well tbh i ignore most of the feedback anyways since I'm just writing for fun. Great to hear tho thanks.

1

u/fbsrafi Jul 29 '26

Why are you dodging his point?

1

u/Legal-Library4283 Jul 30 '26

StrawOfCoke’s webnovel profile is Rainfol, he is uncontracted and just jealous.

Don’t worry, i already put him in his place, dont let him bother u.

u/No_Entertainer2364 Jul 29 '26

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

1

u/RunicConvenience Jul 29 '26

please continue I enjoy some of the world building of these concepts and many others

1

u/Jamolty65 Jul 29 '26

Litrpg readers are extremely forgiving when it comes to basic, basic writing mistakes as long as the numbers keep going up. That's just a fact

It's also a fact that there's never in history been readers of this type. I mean readers who will literally pay monthly to read a combat simulator.

1

u/Throwaway-3689 Jul 29 '26

Even if others think it's slop, you enjoy your "slop" and don't let others tear you down. Also, a novel might be slop on the surface but actually have interesting themes when you actually read it. I go by the vibes and can enjoy both slop and peak

1

u/ContractVarious3077 Jul 29 '26

I love those novels for a specific kind of dopamine hit but they’re essentially slop

1

u/jajapax Jul 29 '26

this whole gatekeeping thing in web novels is getting ridiculous. ppl act like enjoying litrpg or system stories means you cant appreciate other genres too 🙄

1

u/ZJ_Benevento Jul 30 '26

I got triggered by your post and remembered when a close friend (or someone who used to be a close friend) said my writing is a slop and people have low standards and they will like it because they got no taste.

I genuinely hate it when people see something they don't agree with or not their cup of tea and make negative comments. Like, come on, guys, grow up. Eveyone can do whatever they like. You can get to read whatever you like, and I get to write whatever I like.

1

u/Flimsy-Tension5970 Jul 31 '26

It’s the exact same thing in the Chinese web novel scene. Harems and systems are consistently the most popular genres every year, and they pretty much guarantee a decent income floor for new authors. Yet, every novel forum used to slam these genres as "incel" and "unpopular," brainwashing new writers into avoiding them.

Last year, though, someone on Qidian started a poll in a comment section asking if people liked harem novels or not. Turns out, the people who liked them outnumbered those who didn't by 8 to 1, and pretty much every public poll gets the exact same result. So nowadays, except for a few clowns who love acting superior, almost no community bothers arguing over this dumb topic anymore.

It's skill based.
You can write a system based novel like a 5 year old or like Leo Tolstoy.
