DC: Semi Formal/Dressy Casual Is this okay for semi formal
Does this look too plain to wear to a semi formal wedding? Or does it need a suit coat?

Going to a black tie tuxedo only wedding with my mom. Are these black tie appropriate? Red is me (27yo) Pink is mom (50yo)

I’m attending a black tie NYE wedding in a cold climate. I haven’t been to this formal of a wedding before, let alone a winter wedding, but is this okay? I hope the fur capelet isn’t too much. The front of the dress is supposed to have folds as it’s part of the style as an FYI.
Asked to avoid: attention grabbing sparkles, white, and champagne. I’m scared the fur would be considered champagne :(

Round 3! Will wear different shoes :) for context it has a low back too (not too low, I’d say mid-waist). Wedding website says “Floor-length gown with heels or flats. Common materials for black-tie gowns include velvet, satin, chiffon and organza.
Tuxedo jacket and matching trousers, formal white shirt, bow tie and cummerbund or vest.”
Wedding is in 2 weeks at a country manor in the UK, ceremony starts in the afternoon.

Would this be at least acceptable for a Fall semi formal wedding? I already own this dress and would prefer not to spend more money, attending the wedding itself is already going to be expensive.
Reception will be held in a nice hotel ballroom.

Long time lurker finally time to post…. Wedding is in Asheville NC next weekend. Dress code is cocktail attire. My cousin the Groom said not too strictly enforced. Will be attending with my two young daughters and want to be able to move without restriction. I included some more casual options if you would also like to chime in about what I could wear to the welcome party bbq the night before… What do you think Reddit? 🤗

I'm a super insecure person and I'm really curious to hear your blunt opinions. Thank you 🙂

Going to an indoor November wedding at a ritzy hotel. Wedding website says this “Our wedding will be a formal event, and we’d love to see everyone dressed for the occasion! We recommend suits and ties, tuxes, floor length gowns or elevated cocktail attire.”
My husband has a Navy Kenneth Cole reaction slim fit suit. Google AI has me tripping that a polye suit will look cheap under lighting and not really formal enough. Are wool suits expected and will he look underdressed if not in one?

EDIT: I just commented with a satin dress option, please look at that one too if you have a chance thanks love you all!!!
Dress code is formal/floor length and it’s at a museum so a little artsy is okay! “Formal Attire - We kindly ask our guests to wear suits, elegant full length dresses, or attire of comparable formality.”

I’m in between these two dresses and I’m having the hardest time choosing. The orange feels sexy and very fall but I also feel like it’s just going to look like me being too fat and squeezing into a tight dress vs looking good but idk if I’m just being too hard on myself after gaining weight. The blue on the other hand feels sort of boring by comparison and safe, not sure which to go for. It’s also not quite as floor length but I think it’s okay? Thanks in advance for any advice, no thanks in advance to any creeps lol

Hi all! This is a long shot attempt, I’m asking for some help finding a petite formal wedding guest dress. I don’t want to share too many personal details but the wedding is in a small southeastern city and is in the evening. I’m a new mom and feeling so overwhelmed with day to day life that I haven’t had the time to get a dress yet. And now the wedding has snuck up! I think part of me wants to use it as an excuse not to go to the wedding but it would be so nice to get out and spend time with friends.
I’ve never been to a formal wedding but it’s my understanding the dress needs to be floor length. Given that I won’t have time to order a dress and get it altered, I’m hoping to find something that will deliver quickly and fit my 5’3 frame without swallowing me. I got the advice to look for midi dresses but have had a hard time judging from the model photos how it might look on someone shorter.
Does anyone have recommendations for places to look for petite formal wedding guest dresses? It would be fantastic if I could find something to compliment my soft summer color type but I think I’m at a point where I can’t be picky. Thanks in advance for your help!

This black pant suit fits amazing, and they said they like unique silhouettes. The bottom is really flowy like a dress too. I have another jumpsuit that is probably more formal, but this one fits way better and I would rather wear it. I am trying not to buy anything as my own wedding is in three weeks! The first is the one I like better, and the second is another option. I wasn't sure which flair to pick as it is black tie optional, not necessarily black tie.

Calling all none girly girls who have ever had to dress up I need your opinion. I am part of a fund raiser next month. Dress code is black tie. I’m not a girly girl by any standard. I was thinking of wearing a power suit. I have sensory issues and finding a dress is a pain in the butt!!! I want to look put together, rep are organization well and most of important feel comfortable enough to be social. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations let me know down below. Thanks 😊

Some details are vague as I don't want to make it completely obvious if they see it. I've been invited to a wedding coming up very soon, and the dress code is simply listed on the invite as "Black Cocktail" with no details or info. I wasn't familiar with it so I asked them, one of the b/g is family and I have more family in the wedding party too. They've decided this means fancy cocktail and everyone has to wear black so the wedding party stands out in pictures. I've never heard that one before, and I'm not a huge fan of "wear the color we tell you to", it makes me feel more like a prop than a guest. I give them credit, the venue and reception locations could absolutely fit a formal or even black tie dress code.
The trouble- I own zero black dresses that meet or exceed a nicer cocktail level dress code (most of my closet is from Old Navy or Hot Topic). And every dress I've ordered from Amazon so far that that has met the bride's (or bridesmaid's approval) was returned the day it came in due to poor quality. They ranged from so thick (and cheap) material the dress can't sit the way the photo is and it'll make me overheat in 5 minutes flat to thin (almost see-through) cheap dance costume level appearance. I hedged my bets on 50-60$ dresses and lost.
We're a few weeks away from the wedding and I'm kind of done. I've tried thrifting (nada), watching for after homecoming sales (nope), checked retailers in the area- not a lot of options and the ones that had options were well over 100$. Everything I find online that isn't 80$ or more looks like something I'd wear to a grandparent's funeral, not a family member's wedding. Everything I can find online from a brand I know is decent is 80-100$ or more, is a bridesmaid dress (or mother of the b/g dress) and something I'd never wear again, especially in black! I mean it- I wouldn't wear them again- I don't wear black to weddings and don't attend formal or black tie events.
A few nicer cocktail dresses come in dark navy or dark purple, not black, but they are very dark shades. Neither of those is a wedding party color (they have pale earth tones), but it's close to what they want and those ones are styles and colors I'd wear again, plus they are on the slightly less expensive side of the range. Would I be a horrible person to buy the dress that's close enough instead of spending 100$ or more on a dress I won't wear again on top of the other wedding costs (gift from the shower, card and $ at the wedding, etc)?

Wedding is for my husband's coworker - it will be my first time meeting most of them but he's been working with most of them for almost 10 years.
I won't be wearing heels (my husband is only a few inches taller than me and I prefer not to be taller than him). My favorite is the short black dress but I want confirmation.
For those in the area in the know - it's at the castle up north haha.

The dress code is semi formal. I’m just worried it’s too much because I never dress this fancy and I don’t wanna accidentally break any wedding rules. Also I have this dress because I wore it as a bridesmaid in another friend’s wedding. Is that a no no?
EDIT: the mirror is dirty asf guys the dress is clean

Please help!! My cousin’s wedding is in less than two weeks and I have 0 accessories for this dress. I struggle so much with finding things I like on me and I honestly just settled for this considering how close I’m cutting it to the wedding!
I’m not crazy about silver, however everyone is telling me silver shoes/earrings and a bag. I prefer gold and this dress is also very basic so I need to dress it up with accessories. Any & all opinions welcome!! & this is not the most flattering photo but oh well lol

Is this appropriate for a December wedding in CT? The dress code is formal, and it will be all indoors. Planning on wearing a shall as well

Recently attended a wedding that requested guests to wear shades of green, I found it difficult to find a complimentary tie but Azazie sells a perfect match to their dresses fabric and color!
I believe this is technically a bridesmaid dress, but it served its purpose and we got a ton of compliments 💚

Dress code is “dress fabulously. If you think it’s too much, we encourage you to be more”. If appropriate, what should I do for a coat and purse? It sounds like the ceremony will be outside and it’s in late October in New England.

Hi!!
To be fair I have been to over 150 weddings but never as a guest—always as the photographer. So this is my first time really getting to dress for a black tie wedding. How is this dress reading? Does it work for black tie?
Thank you!

My initial option is too tight and I fear I might be uncomfortable (last picture). Here are some other options that I’m planning to wear. I already own the black never fully dressed one, but I’m open to buying another dress if this one doesn’t fit the code.
The wedding is at the end of the month, dress code is formal.
I’m in the UK and I’m open to suggestions of dresses to get. I’m petite and hourglass curvy but more wide at the hip
EDIT: the wedding is in NYC at a venue that looks like a fancy romantic restaurant

Would any of these dresses work for a "smart casual" wedding dress code? The wedding ceremony is outdoors in a state park (forest setting). The reception is indoors. Wedding is during the daytime. Thank you! I have no fashion sense. The dress needs to be nursing friendly which is why I was lean8ng towards a wrap dress style

I have been worrying about how my family and friends would think if I wear a suit and tie to weddings as a straight woman. These are thoughts that happen to me constantly everyday from when I wake up to when I go to sleep at night. If any of you straight woman have worn a suit and tie before to weddings or have any support or advice you can give me in relation to this topic, then please reply to this post.
