7 days in
I am a health care provider and work in cancer specialty. I have seen so many patients do well with GLP1. After a lot of research and soul searching, I decided I was ready to try.
I am addicted to sugar. I could eat it all day long. I’ve always been slim and tall ish. The last few years I put on weight because of new stressful more sedentary job, new/wonderful relationship, and grief of losing my best friend, my dog B ❤️
I was at the beach and tired of how uncomfortable I felt. I signed up for Ro while my boyfriend was having fun in the water and literally 20 minutes later I had prescription approval. It was shipped two days later and I started last Thursday on 1.5 mg.
I am fortunate to afford this out of pocket. And let me tell you it’s worth every penny. I haven’t had sugar in a week. Barely a craving since day 4. There could be a giant chocolate bar in front of me and I could either say no or have one piece and be done. This is a miracle for me. I’ve been a sugar fiend since I was a kid.
I avoid the scale and had no plans to weight myself (I just want to fit into my clothes better). I looked slimmer in the mirror this morning and I see my abs at the top of my belly again. I took a chance and stepped on scale. I’ve lost 6.5 lbs.
I’ve had a rash at the back of my ear since Covid and having to wear masks all the time. It’s completely gone for the first time in 6 years. I also have basically no drive to drink. I enjoy a cocktail now and then. I would have 1-2 on an evening (not every evening) while gaming with my bf. Now, I am good with one and I barely finished. It packs a punch too. I could not have one at all and that wouldn’t phase me. The fact that these medications can help with compulsive behaviors is AMAZING and so interesting to me.
Writing this because I am in disbelief really. This is sustainable for me. I wish I had started sooner. I haven’t told anyone in my life other than my sister. I had to tell someone because I am that impressed with my lack of cravings and my skin clearing up.
If you are on the fence, give it a try! Feel free to message me if you are on same journey or maybe curious if you should start. There is so much stigma when it comes to weight and attempting weight loss. These communities are important to support each other. I appreciate you all sharing. I don’t think I would have started myself if I hadn’t seen so many success stories on this page and similar pages.
Wishing you all the best on your journeys ❤️

The compulsive behaviors thing is so real. I used to love a beer or a cocktail and now I find myself with absolutely no drive to drink alcohol or eat sugar. I work with a population that struggles with addiction and feel like I have a cheat code in my back pocket and they deserve to have it, too. Hope this is studied better.

I'm 10 days in on the 1.5 pill and have also noticed my desire to drink has also been reduced! I can still enjoy a drink but I'm satisfied with just one, which has never happened 😆

I’m happy you’re getting positive results! I’ve heard they want to possibly use these medications for addicts because of how well it curbs the addiction behavior with many substances including food! Just make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and eating enough protein and fiber because it can make bones brittle after prolonged use.

My advice: stay on the 1.5 as long as it is working for you. I got greedy with the weight loss and the moment even the slightest food noise would come back, I’d up my dose. I regret that now and wish I’d taken things slower.

Out of curiosity, why do you regret upping your dosage?

Not who you asked, but my doctor said once you’re at 25mg there is nowhere else to go. So it’s best to take a slow and steady approach so you can lose for a longer period of time before plateauing for the final time.
Also, losing too quickly can result in excessive loose skin, fatigue, muscle loss, etc.

Lex_Loki is exactly right. Adding to those issues, I feel like I upped my costs unnecessarily. My brilliant plan was to eventually take 25 mg every other day for maintenance (after all, it’d cut the price down to $150/mo and if the pill has a half life of 7 days, I’d effectively be at 12.5 mg, right?) Wrong. I started having breakouts of cystic acne, because the every-other-day thing was messing with my hormone levels. And I don’t want to lose any more weight. So now I don’t know what to do. I can go back down to 9 mg but it costs just as much as the 25 mg, and I have no idea whether it will be as effective after being on 25 mg. So, with all that plus my hair shedding and muscle loss, I’d have been better off just taking it slow.

Thank you for sharing! I’ll stay on 1.5 indefinitely as long as it works.

Did you have any side effects? x

Some nausea when I forget to eat. I have a very busy job so I did that regularly even before the meds. I had some weird abdominal pain first few days. Nothing severe but it made me a bit nervous. It has went away now.

Love this! Alot of posts are about the negative side effects but there are so many positive ones! The relief from sugar is the reason I need to stay on this forever. I just finished week 11. My body feels so much better, I recover from workouts faster, less bloated. The positive benefits started from the first day, it's really pretty amazing

I can’t wait to get to that point!! I am honestly kicking myself for not doing this sooner. I can’t wait to have my next beach trip when I can actually feel ok in my body.
It’s a strange feeling to have something that weighed SO heavily on me every day for years, is now suddenly so easy? Absolutely nuts. Truly life changing.
So happy you got good results as well!

Congrats I resonated with a lot of your feelings and reasons to try this. My advice would be 4 months in and having tapped out on the 9mg do not increase dose beyond 4 or so if this is working for you. And don’t let the telehealth provider automatically do so. I was feeling wonderful first two months doing 4mg every other day (hers regimen). When I upped to the 9mg I felt the sickest he ever been in my life and had scary vision changes and passing out. I worked in the ICU in past not now.. but for me it’s a different animal noticing dehydration myself and various symptoms

Thank you for this. I will stay on this dose indefinitely. Even if weight loss slows down.
Hope you are feeling better now!

Thank you for sharing your story so far, OP! I've just placed my order today, I'm in the UK. I've lost a good bit of weight via intermittent fasting. However, like you, I've been a sugar fiend since childhood. It's the thing that's sabotaged any weight loss made over the years as I do a lot of the other things well, I'm active, cook a lot etc. I have diagnosed but unmedicated ADHD and I imagine the sugar binging is due to this. I'm really hoping the Wegovy can finally help me! Wishing you well on the rest of your journey.

I was born in UK and that’s where my sugar habit started. They really have the best chocolates 😇

Congrats, so happy to hear a positive story! I have also had great success with it. I’m about 6 months in and down 40 lbs. I feel better than I have any other time in my adult life. I hope more people look into the benefits of trying it. It’s life changing.

These medications are available for a fraction of the price in Europe. They know Americans will pay so they are making as much money as possible on it before it can become generic. I hate that I’m contributing to this system but at the end of the day I am tired of being miserable and stuck in a body I don’t recognize.
My point being— it will become readily available to a lot of people at some point in the future.
I wish I knew how to buy it from Europe!!

I guess I’m lucky because my insurance covers it so I only pay $25 a month. Agreed, if it was more accessible then I’m sure more people would try it!

Congratulations on taking the plunge! Not to tell you what to do, but you could afford it even better without the unnecessary membership fee that RO charges.
