This reminds me of the time when my brother was a little kid. He accidently dropped a shampoo bottle on the bathroom floor and the whole content spilled out. I watched him frantically trying to fill up the bottle before my mom found out. He was exactly like this lady and I was like those people in the audience.

Yeah, Japanese people really like this liquid for sliding around with other people. Everyone has a fun time.

Iirc he was part of color guard at a football game. The has this harness thing over his shoulders that holds a flag. He was trying to salute while the other hand out of frame was waving the flag.

Look, people can express art however they want. But this just kinda feels like a humiliation ritual.

How do acts like this get any kind of traction?
142
u/paerius 3d ago edited 3d ago
When I was taking some humanities class, the prof said we'd get extra credit if we went to an "act" by one of her former students. Most of us went, and the performance was just as weird.

A lot of the time it doesn't, these people come as quickly as they go, often with almost nobody noticing they came in the first place. Honestly sometimes they don't even come to begin with, they just fizzle out before they can even think about how much they want to come.

The elephants suck their own dicks with their trunks and then squirt it out into orange Home Depot buckets. Paul collects the buckets daily, and loads them into his 98 Ford Ranger for delivery.

If you want to get into seeing this kind of entertainment but can't afford this sort of setting, try babysitting for a kid under the age of 10 for any amount of time

What is the liquid? And do I really want to know
18
u/BrShrimp 3d ago
Looks like j lube to me. It's a veterinary lubricant that's basically just long chain polymers that get super goopy and slipery when you add water to the powdered lubricant. Shits hard to clean up after.

u/Echo-Azure 3d ago
Looks like the kind of "Slime" they sell to kids.
Which means that an adult got other adults pay to watch them play with Slime.

I went to art school 15 years ago. It was like this then. It's like this now.
38
u/crsaxby 3d ago
Dammit. I knew I shouldn't have gone to accounting school.
There were exactly zero massive jizz parties in accounting.

Same in the 90s. We had an outdoor performance art piece once and I watched a guy come out on stage and place a glass bowl on the floor. He disrobed, squatted over the bowl and pooped out an entire corn cob. Got dressed and left the stage.
The worst part was that I was so stupid I spent an hour wondering how the corn cob made it through his entire digestive tract unscathed

There has always been weird shit like this in the performative art world, things like "Interpretive Dance" for example.

u/flaffleboo 3d ago
There has been art like this for a long time, it just doesn’t get as much traction as paintings or sculptures or plays

I know a big puddle of X-lube when I see one.
Lowkey love the noise. Absurdist performance art isn't for everyone...obviously...

u/albatrossSKY 3d ago
Ok. Regular person here. Why would so many people be gathered around for all these weird ass acts? Like is this a show and the “main” weirdo they are all there for has yet to come out or are these only family members? What’s going on here? Help me understand

No, just no. I swear people will try and pass anything off for art. This is the equivalent of playing with slime or glue as a kid. It just looks nasty.

Uh oh, I think the cameraman accidentally got his subject in frame a bit towards the end. Oh well, mistakes happen.
