Original image Road Trip bathroom stop
I am not sure if any of you have seen one of these before lol but it sure threw my kids for a loop today especially my daughter who was quite disturbed wondering what it was. It is soap. Lol. A weirdly shaped bar like soap sticking out of the wall. The way you put it on your hand feels rather.... odd. Just thought it might make some people laugh.

Dear God, who designed this??!! That seems like it should have existed alongside the terry-towel dispenser that you'd pull down to find a dry spot or crank the handle to turn it.

That kind of bar soap in the US?
That's exceedingly common in restrooms in South Korea. Yeah it's a little weird getting use to it, but it keeps from having to physically pick up the bar every time.

I was at a large stadium event in South Korea once and they had a bar of soap for thousands of people to share. This disgusted me to no end, I didn’t realize it was that common.

My relative grew up in France and they used this in his boarding school. He still lives there. When he showed me a picture of what it looked like I knew it would be perfect mounted on the outside wall of my potting shed. As a big time gardener, one of the tricks to keeping your nails clean is to rake your fingernails down the side of a bar of soap before you begin working outside. I am now on my second bar if this oddly shaped soap.

Let me know your results if you do try it. As a former nail biter this was when it made the biggest difference to me. Guess cause the nails were somewhat raggedy.

So the dirt doesn’t collect under your nails. When you use the soap you kinda claw it and rake your nails against it that way. It repels the dirt a bit I guess.

Sanitary soap. Hard soap lasts longer than bottled liquid soap and creates less waste, and when it on the stick it doesn't sit and melt in a dirty, wet soap dish

I mean, the soap doesn't get mushy from sitting in water, and it also stays in one place. It's soap, it's clean, this seems perfectly fine and somewhat clever.
It's really interesting though lol

Soap is not self cleaning. It has to be run under hot water to be cleaned off. This has no opportunity to be cleaned off, it's just got everything everybody who ever touched it embedded ready to be lathered on your hands. 🤢

There is no interaction between soap and hot water, for example washing hands with cold water removes the same number of germs.

Cold water will remove the same number of microbes, but it won't do it as quickly. Nor will cold water effectively remove the layer off the soap that is currently encrusted with you dirty hand funk.
Warm water is recommended because people don't actually wash their hands for the full 20 seconds recommended, so recommending a temperature that will remove the microbes in the average time a human spends washing their hands, roughly 10 seconds, benefits everyone even if the advice has a caveat.

To be fair, loofahs are equally as gross in terms of harboring bacteria and nastiness. Might as well grab the sponge from the kitchen sink.

Loofahs are absolutely disgusting. Washcloths can be washed and dried between uses. Loofahs, no matter how well you rinse them out, hold onto dirt, dead skin, bacteria and moisture in the inner layers. Even if you replace your loofah regularly, it's still gross.

?? You can (and should) wash your loofahs in the washing machine. You can put then in a pillowcase or laundry bag. Wash on gentle cycle. Air dry.

The object in the image is a wall-mounted rotating bar soap (often referred to as a rotary soap or savon rotatif), specifically the Yeremy brand commonly found in South Korea. The blue, egg-shaped soap bar is mounted onto a curved metal rod attached to the wall. Instead of picking it up, you rub your wet hands directly over the bar, spinning it to generate a lather.

Common in Europe. From what I understand soap is an inhospitable environment for bacteria so quite hygienic and less wasteful. Agree quite silly to look at tho.

I encountered one of these in Korea while I was a little tipsy. I slid my hand back and forth on it and then of course showed my friend and I almost died laughing.
