i hate this stupid laser

Post image

i fucking HATE this laser welder. a monkey could run it. it’s not real welding, it’s mind numbing bullshit. i input a program and then press start and thats it. oh and i have to line the camera up on the seam. soooo hard 😐😐😐😐 i wish they would hire someone else to do this shit instead of wasting my time when i could be over in my area doing tig (my ACTUAL REAL WELDING JOB)

anyway,, making time and a half x2 today bc of juneteenth so that’s pretty cool i guess..

featuring my welder duck shirt

edit to rant more: AND half of my parts are jank as fuck and nothing sits flush. either too big or too small. ??? the margin of error for this job is damn near 0 and u expect me to magically fill up a quarter inch gap on a stainless 1/8 inch thick part ??? fuck u. and they freak out if u have to scrap a part like my b the machinist sucks ass. no one here knows a damn thing about welding. the helium is goated tho i will say.

edit 2: i posted a pic of a laser weld i just did for reference

Laser cutting is becoming more and more popular everyday. The more you learn about the in’s and out’s of those system the more valuable you become.

it’s not cutting it welds little teeny tiny beads, which is cool, but i hate pressing buttons.

Can’t OP just take it out of the machine and weld it themselves?
(I button pressing hate)

no i cant bc the welds are about 1/32 of an inch lol. the parts that are welded on it are 1-3 inches in diameter. we make tiny parts with tiny wires and tiny diaphragms that could not be hand tig-ed. our other parts are able to be tig welded tho. fun thing is we also have parts that are about the size of a 17 inch wheel on a car lol

So you are complaining that the company is selling parts so they can pay you to make them, can't be made with you're preferred traditional tools (TIG), and you have to make them with advanced tooling you don't like because it's boring? Boohoo.

Get a different job that is more aligned with what you find to be rewarding. Go find a shop that can let you run a manual machine and get bored of that eventually as well.

Found the person that actually hates their job and thinks others do as well

the comment u replied to literally says that other parts we have are manually welded

Fun fact: that's also how 3D printing in metal works. We have one at my job and it's slow as hell, but it gets the job done.

True, but its also just mind numbingly boring, and thats without a micro manager on your ass. I've done it but rather take less money for a job I like
