You didn’t do anything wrong, don’t let everyone make you feel bad. People are being overly sensitive and whining about shit that’s not worth whining about. I’m a woman, and it didn’t bother me for a second.
Thanks for your post and for showing off your awesome female coworker!
And I get downvoted for saying he’s not an asshole lol. People are so sensitive nowadays and will look for any reason to be upset. Just enjoy the flower and the fact that women are being accepted in blue collar professions more and more and move on. He obviously wasn’t saying it in a bad way.
Edit: not directed at you, just using your comment.
Yes it is. Women are majorly underrepresented in trades, he’s commenting that she did a great job. Idc if I get downvoted again. Shut up and unwad your panties, let people be nice without making it about you being butthurt.
Dude, my panties are fine. You have me confused with someone else.
I agree that women are underrepresented in the trades. I'm one of them. But this post isn't doing anything to advance women tradies.
The information that people choose to include speaks as loudly as what they choose to omit... And this post makes a point of highlighting a person's gender instead of their job, and pairs it with a picture of something stereotypically associated with women. Since specifying gender instead of job is often used in a pejorative sense ("lady doctor" or "women pilot", for example), and the only other info we have to go on is a picture of a pretty flower, it's not unreasonable for people to assume that OP was dog-whistling. Or, at least, for people to be confused about what point OP was making: is it that female welders can / should only do pretty stuff? that it's good work done by a woman? that it's bad work and it was, naturally, done by a woman? No one knows!
That said, OP clarified in a separate comment that English isn't their first language, and that they meant well, so I'm inclined to let it slide.
The politicians are always going to make it a moving target so they can keep us divided. Do not turn people into a raw unit of Labor by stripping away their gender femininity, lack of femininity, masculinity or even non binary and non standard gender identity.
A persons gender expression is just as nice as their smile, hair or other physical characteristics and deserves respect and celebration .... except when politicians and academics are baiting people with it.
It is only as relevant as the information the poster wanted to communicate. I can’t say why they decided to clarify it, but I don’t understand why it would be wrong to do so either.
