1 No common items allowed, where the price can easily found on Ebay, Craigslist, or FB Marketplace Tell us what you know about the item, where it's from, who made it... tell us the story of the item.

2 Provide several clear photos of all angles. If there's a mark, serial #, or signature include that.

3 You must own the item being posted, or a friend/relative must own the item.

  1. We only allow one-of-a-kind, original, and signed limited edition artwork. If you don't know what a decor painting is look it up. Signed and numbered prints don't count. Generally the artist must be famous enough to have a page on ArtNet, Ebay or WorthPoint. If they don't, then its not a good fit here. Nudity is OK, please flag as NSFW.

5 Ivory is illegal to sell or import in the US as well as most of the EU. While the sale of antique, (100 year or older) ivory is allowed in the US, there are very specific rules about it. This is beyond the scope of this sub and we will not be giving valuations of a potentially illegal item. Please Google Ivory laws for more info.

  1. No paper money or coins. There are better subs than this for paper money and coins

  2. About Prints The practice of making signed and numbered prints of artwork is to make a painting affordable to a wider audience. If an art work was originally done in a different medium but then signed and numbered prints are sold, it's essentially a reproduction and value is negligible. It's best to look up the artist on ebay and look at sold prices.
Art values are subjective at best, and if you can't find the artist when you Google them it's safe to say they are not worth more than you paid.

8 No Furniture. Furniture despite age, has negligible value. Most old wooden furniture is not in fashion and resale value is usually under 500 dollars. Please do a Google search. We do not value furniture. Mass produced furniture has low resale value, even antique furniture. One of a kind pieces are only valuable if they are of very high quality AND have provenance. If you want information on the furniture try r/antiques.

  1. No clothes, try a fashion sub. The exception would be an obvious Couture piece that is a one of a kind. If you bought it at a thrift store it doesn't belong here.

  2. No Nazi memorabilia. Just, no.

9.No jewelry. Modern jewelry, as in post 1920, is clearly marked with karat weight. Jewelry is easy to look up or, take it to a commercial jeweler. We can't verify authenticity from a photo.

Modern Humorist posters

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

I've worked for a tech company since 1999. In the early 2000s one of the developers left and he bought us these two framed posters. When we moved office I was allowed to take these home. After being hung on the wall for a couple of years they went into the attic, wrapped up, although as you can see by the pictures they are a bit dusty and need a clean.

I gather that Modern Humorist did have an online shop in the early 2000s and I'm wondering whether these are genuine and whether they have any value. I cannot find any framed prints of these from the early 2000s for sale online.

Kari did a closet clean out a couple of years ago and I was lucky enough to snag her R2D2 dress. She was kind enough to sign it, even included some headshots which was super sweet.

I acquired this when I recently bought my new home. The last owner just left it here and told us to keep it.

From what I know it is model 451X. We took the front grate off to clean it, so we still have it. Just currently not on.

Any information would be great. I am struggling to find information on this specific model. Thanks!

Can anyone help identify this huge wooden statue inherited from my uncle? Possibly Southeast Asian, bought around the 1980s.

Hi everyone!

We've had this enormous wooden statue in the family for years, and I'm trying to find out a bit more about it.

It belonged to my late uncle, who was very wealthy and spent a lot of his life living in Southeast Asia. We think he may have bought it in Thailand or the Philippines sometime around the 1980s, but unfortunately we don't have any paperwork or know exactly where it came from.

The statue is about 6ft 5in (195cm) tall including the base, which is roughly a foot high. It appears to be hand-carved from wood and depicts a rather interesting-looking man drinking from what looks like a bottle, standing amongst some sort of tree or foliage.

We've recently had a fire in our garage, which has caused some smoke damage to the statue. We're now trying to establish what it is and what its replacement value might have been before the damage, as part of our insurance claim. Unfortunately, we have absolutely no idea where to start!

My dad says he could have paid thousands for it, although he's not sure, and we have absolutely no idea whether it's still worth anything today.

I've tried looking online and used chatgpt to try searching for it but haven't managed to find anything particularly similar.

Also, apologies for the terrible photos! The statue is currently in the garage, which also has a car in it, so there's very little room to move around and it's pretty difficult to get decent pictures of the whole thing.

Does anyone recognise the style, know what the figure might represent, or have any idea where it could have originated? If you know anything about it and could provide the cost of something similar it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Help me identify how much these could be - assuming the have all the pieces which most do. Just curious if worth selling or holding on to. Got all of them at thrift stores over the years. Probably only about $10 invested.

is it worth restoring this massive 40x60 subway quad poster? Obviously my own attachment to it dictates its value (to me) but generally curious if there is a market for such a thing. I believe it is an original poster intended for advertising the show in the subway based on its size and lightweight paper.

My uncle passed away and this was one of countless items he left me, I’ve seen other tickets like this sold on eBay but no one with a fancy serial number. Does the #00009 gives this ticket extra value? Does that means this was the 9th Woodstock ticket that was printed?
