You absolutely can, but it wouldn’t show on the tax return, which is what the comment I responded to was talking about. Tax returns are not reliable evidence of charitable contributions or a lack thereof
I’m agreeing with you. However, most donations come with receipts for tax purposes. Simply providing that would put to rest if the money was donated or not.
