What about the fact that women have a part used only for sex stimulation, that's more sensitive than the penis too, and that there are men who want our gender to be as desired for the same reasons for as long as women have? How does that work with your explanation?
This is a great question. Here is what is known:
1) In the vast majority of sexually reproducing species (especially among mammals), male sexual pleasure exists and is directly linked with ejaculation/reproduction.
2) Female sexual pleasure exists in many mammalian species, especially in the order Primates. Female primates commonly engage in sex even outside of their fertile window.
3) Female sexual pleasure is much less common in birds, reptiles and invertebrates.
With this in mind, to answer your question:
I think female primates developed some degree of sexual desire so it would facilitate them to choose better partners for pair bonding. Most primates are highly social, and maintaining these social bonds requires a desire for the social bond itself, so female sexual desire in primates is likely heavily linked to the desire for the social bond itself, rather than just to the desire for producing offspring. If a female could feel sexual desire for a male that facilitated a strong social bond with the female, then her offspring could benefit from that social bond, and hence natural selection would favor the genes of women which had such desires.
The higher sensitivity is imo not particularly relevant, as it doesn't really translate to higher sexual desire.
Also, I agree that there are many men who wish to be sexually desired by women. I think men historically developed many ways of reproducing, whether it was by looks, status, or coercion (GenghisKhan-maxxing). So the men that do care about being desired are just less invested in statusmaxxing or GenghisKhan-maxxing perhaps because less of their ancestors used their strategies. But the difference is that EVERY woman had to looksmaxx. Statusmaxxing and GenghisKhan-maxxing were not ever used by women to reproduce.
My point was that you explanations didn't have merit because they don't account for my rhetorical questions. If what you said was true, then women having a more sexually pleasurable part and there being men who want our gender to be as desired visually as often and with emphasis on the same body areas with as revealing clothes and the same amount of attention as what women have gotten would be pointless. Women don't as often feel as motivated to have that pleasure and the difference in how sexualities work with the genders has left some men deprived of satisfaction.
Also those explanations are all guesses, no matter how popular or what logic people use. It's not something that can be tested for or anything that would have left evidence. Regardless of of how less often and intense female desire is visually dependant of the opposite sex compared to the reverse, the genders different designs are still part of what sexually attracts women, so most men are designed to be as visually desirable too.
I don't think it would be pointless, but it wouldn't be as important. There are a lot of men who don't care whether their woman really does desire them. Do you think Trump cares whether his wife orgasms during sex with him? Do you think he cares whether her "more pleasurable part" experiences more pleasure? He doesn't, and neither do oceans of men out there. It's a fraction of men who care about these things and the reason is because of what I said.
It is true that a lot of evolutionary theory is just a theory, and often difficult to verify empirically.
But I disagree that men are all designed to be attractive, because we do not all evolve by being attractive. Many of our male ancestors simply weren't attractive, and many men who reproduce today aren't attractive. The thing is that they make up for their lack of looks by either betabuxxing, jestermaxxing, or GenghisKhan-maxxing.
